Chapter 95 – The boundaries between professional and personal lives shouldn’t be muddled (1)
Normally, new employees like Li Jing wouldn’t be able to approach Song Tingshen. However, the Finance Department had to occasionally submit written information and documents. Every time this happened, Li Jing would be eagerly attentive. Everyone knew that she could be considered a related party to their CEO. And so, they would have her bring over documents that weren’t particularly important.
However, even after getting the task of bringing over the documents, Li Jing had to hand them over to Assistant Chen. And so, 7 or 8 times out of 10, she wouldn’t even get the chance to see Song Tingshen. Still, she felt that it was already enough that she could see him a few times.
Assistant Chen was present today. Li Jing normally wouldn’t behave indiscreetly. She knew that if she overstepped, it would only bring her criticism from others. But, today was a special day. Li Jing hesitated for a moment before saying to Assistant Chen, “Brother Chen, my older brother asked me to deliver something to CEO Song for him. Do you…”
Last time, Li Jing had helped him get something from Japan for his girlfriend. Assistant Chen remembered that favor. In addition, he knew that Li Jing’s older brother was close friends with CEO Song. After thinking about it, he nodded. “You can go bring it to him. CEO Song isn’t in a meeting right now.”
Li Jing was very pleased. “Thank you so much. Brother Chen, did your girlfriend like that set of makeup from abroad?”
At the mention of this, Assistant Chen was very grateful towards Li Jing. “She likes it a lot. She hadn’t been able to find anyone to buy it on her behalf. Oh right, when you have time, I’ll treat you to a meal.”
“That’s okay. I wouldn’t want your girlfriend to misunderstand,” Li Jing said with a smile, “My friend goes to Japan and Korea every month. If your girlfriend wants anything else, you can come ask me anytime.”
“That’s very generous. When my girlfriend comes here, we’ll treat you to a meal together. That’s a must. We have to express our thanks.”
Smiling, Li Jing nodded. “Sure. Brother Chen, then I’m going to see CEO Song now.”
“Go on.”
Li Jing took a deep breath, straightened her back, and unhurriedly walked to Song Tingshen’s office door. She knocked on his door.
“Come in.”
She didn’t push open the door until she heard the man’s deep voice from inside. There was a very sweet smile on her face.
Song Tingshen had thought the knocking on the door was from Assistant Chen, so he didn’t even look that way. His gaze was focused on the various analyzed data on his computer screen.
Li Jing walked to the front of the desk and stopped there. Mustering up her courage, she said, “CEO Song, I brought the financial reports for last quarter.”
Song Tingshen raised his head. Seeing that it was Li Jing, he paused. “Going forward, hand these reports directly to Assistant Chen.”
Li Jing instinctively bit her bottom lip. She placed a cardboard box on the desk. From the box’s exterior, one wouldn’t be able to guess what was inside. She carefully took out the small cake she had made from the box.
It was a very small portion, but she had poured her heart into making this mousse cake.
Song Tingshen froze in surprise.
Li Jing said, “My older brother said that it was your birthday today. I’ve been very grateful for your continuous care. I don’t know what you’re lacking, so I could only make you this little cake. CEO Song, happy birthday.”
Song Tingshen raised his hand and squeezed the bridge of his nose. The look he showed her was dim, and his voice was very low as he said, “Li Jing, you got an internship offer because the HR department recognized your ability. It has nothing to do with me. Your older brother and I are very good friends, but the boundaries between professional and personal lives shouldn’t be muddled. Also, thank you for your thoughts, but I don’t like sweets. You should eat the cake yourself.”
Li Jing was stunned. Her smile had also stiffened.
She hadn’t thought Song Tingshen wouldn’t give any face.
