The Villainess Wants a Divorce:Beast Husbands Regret It to Tears-Chapter 48: Fighting and Competing
All she could do was this; anything more would seem insincere.
The morning journey went rather smoothly.
They didn’t encounter any beasts, nor did they take a wrong turn.
The group traveled for a long distance until they finally arrived at the banks of a winding river.
The leader stopped walking.
"Let’s rest here for a while, everyone is tired."
The others agreed and each found a place to sit.
Seraphina Caldwell sat down next to an old tree with a thick trunk.
Her gaze drifted to the water, a hint of longing in her eyes.
After rushing all day, her body was sticky and uncomfortable.
She had long wanted to jump into the river and enjoy a refreshing bath, letting the cool water wash away her fatigue.
But the last two times she bathed, she was ambushed by wild beasts.
Now, every time she saw water, her heart raced.
She wasn’t afraid of the water.
It was the sudden, unguarded threat that she feared.
She stayed silent and continued to sit.
Gideon Larkin stood not far away, his ears twitching slightly, keenly sensing her subtle emotional shift.
He frowned, hesitating whether to suggest she go for a wash.
But before he could speak, Wyatt Yardley stepped forward, evidently intending to offer to accompany her.
Before he could say anything, Isaac Vaughn was already moving.
He had quietly approached him at some point.
He stopped in front of Seraphina Caldwell and slowly bent down.
Seraphina’s heart skipped a beat.
"Do you want to wash?"
Isaac’s voice was low.
"I’ll watch over you, there will be absolutely no problem."
His words were extremely tempting.
Seraphina’s heart warmed, she almost nodded in agreement.
Isaac belonged to the Oceanic Tribe; his blood was naturally attuned to water.
He could breathe freely underwater, had acute senses, and was far faster than ordinary people.
In the water, he was the most formidable, which everyone knew.
With his protection, he was indeed more reliable than anyone.
But she immediately thought back to the last time.
That time while bathing in the river, a beast had leaped out of the water, claws coming straight at her.
In that moment of crisis, she looked to the shore, hoping for Isaac to intervene.
But he merely stood coldly on the sidelines.
In the end, it was Gideon who rushed in to save her.
Her calf had already been bitten with three deep wounds down to the bone.
Later when she recalled, she realized Isaac’s expression wasn’t surprised that day.
He should have reacted the fastest; after all, he was a Green Rank expert.
The only explanation was he didn’t want to save her.
Now letting him watch over her would be asking for trouble, wouldn’t it?
Seraphina avoided his gaze, quickly waving her hands.
"No need, I’ll wash a bit later, it’s not urgent now."
Isaac saw the undisguised vigilance in her eyes, his gaze darkened slightly.
Then he straightened up and turned to walk towards the river, diving headfirst into the water.
Seraphina watched his back, her brows furrowing slightly.
Was she too harsh at that moment?
Was the refusal too blunt?
Could it be that he simply didn’t have time to react that day?
After all, the situation was too sudden, and no one was prepared.
Just then, Evan Orwell’s voice came from the side.
"If you want to wash, I can use spiritual power to create a barrier for you to block the scent, so beasts won’t be able to smell it."
Seraphina turned her head abruptly, her eyes suddenly brightened.
But then she remembered Evan had already consumed a lot before.
She immediately hesitated again.
"Would this be too taxing on your spiritual power?"
Evan was stunned for a moment when he heard her question.
He hadn’t expected her first reaction to be worrying about his condition.
Was she worried he wouldn’t hold up?
This thought made his heart tremble lightly.
"Don’t worry, it’s just a small area, it won’t last long, it won’t be tiring. You go wash quickly."
Seeing him say that, Seraphina was fully assured.
"Alright! I’ll definitely be quick!"
She turned and jogged towards the river.
Evan waved his hand towards an open area on the shore. A pale golden light instantly spread.
Seeing the barrier formed, Seraphina quickly ran to the water’s edge.
She was just about to undo her Beast Skin Skirt when she caught sight of some Beast Husbands not far away, watching curiously in this direction.
Her face blushed instantly and she hurriedly said.
"Could you guys... turn around for a moment?"
The Beast Husbands promptly turned around obediently.
Seraphina finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She quickly took off her clothes, swiftly plunging into the river.
The river was a bit cold, and the instant it touched her skin, it made her gasp.
But soon, the coolness spread through her limbs and veins, washing away the oppressive heat.
While washing, she remembered the Honey Juice Fruit Seeds in her space needed watering.
She cleaned her hair with water while quietly channeling some river water into the space.
Her consciousness sank into that exclusive domain.
Seeing the black soil gradually moistened, she relaxed and continued to wash her body.
Before long, she was finished with her bath.
Seraphina was about to climb ashore when her foot slipped, causing her to lose her balance and almost fall.
She screamed in surprise.
At that moment, a low shout sounded in her ear.
"Be careful!"
Then, she fell into an embrace.
It was Evan’s presence.
His arm firmly supported her waist.
Seraphina looked up, meeting Wyatt’s dark red eyes.
She quickly thanked him.
"Thank you..."
Before she could finish, she suddenly realized she was naked!
She frantically struggled to push him away, but he held onto her as if made of iron, not budging.
Wyatt remained silent.
He lowered his head and directly picked her up horizontally, steadily walking towards the shore.
As they passed her clothing, his tail lightly flicked to skillfully pick up the clothes from the muddy ground.
Carefully placing her on a dry pile of grass, he slowly turned around.
Seraphina hurriedly grabbed the Beast Skin and clumsily put it on.
She sat there in a daze, her fingertips unconsciously picking at the grass by her feet.
He was supposed to be forced by the Beast Seal to look after me, but how could he be so attentive?
Even picking up my clothes from the ground?
Could he have been paying attention to me all along?
This thought made her heart tremble.
Falling into the water while bathing, embarrassingly being carried ashore, it was quite humiliating.
But then she thought, whatever.
Eventually, the contract would be lifted, they saw her as they would a cured meat, so what was there to be afraid of?
Not far away, a few Beast Husbands turned around sneakily, seeing she was dressed, they nonchalantly turned back.
Muttering among themselves.
"Lots of clouds tonight, it might rain."
Kaelan snorted coldly, turning to light a fire.
He skewered the leftover meat from the morning onto sharpened branches, fat dripping into the fire with a "sizzle."
"Let’s eat some meat first to stave off hunger."
Kaelan handed a piece of roasted, fragrant meat to her.
Seraphina took it and bit into it, the seasoning just right.
But after having it seven or eight times, every meal tasted the same, her stomach started to sour. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
She chewed the meat, her gaze drifting into the distance.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have some white rice or a steaming bowl of porridge?
In her past life, she was poor, living off instant noodles and cheap cafeteria meals.
But at least, every now and then, she could have some fried rice or congee with preserved eggs and pork, occasionally splurging a bit with a fried egg.
Her gaze dimmed.
Kaelan immediately noticed and frowned.
"Not tasty?"
"No! It’s really good!"
She quickly shook her head.
But bowing her head, she continued muttering to herself.
If only there were other dishes, that would be great.
She murmured so softly, only she should have heard it.
But she forgot that the males in The Primal Age had ears sharper than wolves.
