Chapter 38: Something Was Wrong...

By the time Nicholas walked out of the bathroom, an hour had already passed. Thankfully, they were in a first-class area, so it had several toilets. No one disturbed him for an entire hour.

But when he walked out of the bathroom, glancing about at his seat, his footsteps paused as his entire body froze.

Abigail had also fallen asleep at some point, wearing earphones. Her head was leaning toward that cunning cousin of his. Honestly, it would be more literal to say that they were both leaning against one another.

The anger that Nicholas had worked hard to suppress surfaced again. His fingers curled up in a fist as he glared at Asher. He walked onward, but as he passed by a few seats with teenagers, one of the girls, who was shooting a video of Abigail and Asher sleeping soundly against one another, giggled.

She said, "Oh my God! They are so cute! This is definitely going into my reel collection!"

Nicholas’s cold and dark gaze shifted toward that girl, who suddenly felt a chill down her spine. Before she could react, he snatched up her phone and deleted the video.

Then, without saying another word, he strolled fast toward his seat,

Since they were sleeping, it was fine if he changed their seats. So he picked up Abigail from her seat with ease.

Surprisingly, she was too light. Nicholas frowned.

Did she not eat properly?

The woman in his arms moved and snuggled deeper into his embrace, even rubbing her face against his chest.

Nicholas’s body froze once again as he stared. An unknown trace of emotion flashed in his heart, but he quickly shrugged it off and placed her in his seat. Then he pushed his cousin aside roughly before resting in the middle seat.

Unknowingly, he ignored his heart which was still thumping loudly in his chest, making him feel slightly uncomfortable. This was an emotion he had never felt before. Since he knew nothing about it, he pushed the thought aside and closed his eyes, falling asleep soon after that.

An hour later.

Asher rubbed his eyes. It took him a moment to return to himself and realize where he was.

Ah, he went along with Abigail on an impulse. Just what the hell was he thinking? Hadn’t he decided he would have nothing to do with a married woman?

He would patiently wait for Abigail’s contract to end. But if he found someone better than her, he would forget about his cousin-in-law. That was what he had originally thought he would do.

But he still ended up tagging along with this woman.

He rubbed the bridge of his nose. This was dangerous. He shouldn’t have come.

He should probably take a return flight the moment he landed.

Just as he was thinking about it, he glanced beside him, only to be stunned.

Huh... Wasn’t it Abigail who was sitting beside him? How come she changed into his rude cousin?

Asher blinked slightly in confusion. But a smile soon formed on his lips as he chuckled.

On second thought, he might stay a few more hours to irritate this man. He had never thought his cousin would end up becoming so jealous one day. This was a day he would remember all his life.

After thinking about it, he closed his eyes once again and pretended to fall asleep.

By the time Abigail woke up, they had already reached the destination. She actually woke up to the announcement that told the passengers to wear seatbelts. She groggily tightened it up, still half asleep and closed her eyes once again to catch up on her beauty sleep for five more minutes.

No...

Wait a minute.

Something was wrong.

Her eyes instantly opened up as she glanced at her own seat. A frown crossed her forehead.

Wasn’t she sitting in the middle? How come she woke up in the corner seat like this?

She glanced around, finding Nicholas focusing hard on his laptop, typing something. The man sensed her gaze.

"You fell asleep in this seat when I returned from the bathroom," he lied without even a hint of guilt in his voice. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Oh?" Abigail scratched the back of her neck, thinking hard to herself.

Did she really fall asleep in this seat? She didn’t really remember. But she did know she fell asleep while talking to Asher...

Maybe she shifted to this seat for some reason before sleeping.

As she was thinking hard, she heard Asher’s voice playfully scolding her husband. "Dear cousin, how come you don’t feel guilty saying that? Weren’t you the one who shifted her?"

Nicholas didn’t say anything and pretended to be deaf, still typing on his laptop.

Abigail’s eyes lit up at that. She understood what the other was saying. So it was Nicholas who transferred her to this seat, huh?

She giggled and held her husband’s hand, saying in a sweet (made-up sweetness) voice, "If you don’t like me hanging out with Asher, just say so. Why do you have to be so unreasonably jealous and not say anything? I’m your wife, after all. I’ll listen to you."

"Shut up, both of you!" Nicholas had had enough of the two of them. He didn’t want to deal with her anymore, nor did he want to see Asher’s face anymore. But he also knew that if he let these people wander about alone, something terrible might happen.

Of course, Nicholas didn’t dare to dwell on why he feared ’something terrible’ so much like this. In a split second, he made a decision that he would regret for the rest of the day.

But at the moment, he was firmly invested in his emotions. He didn’t want Abigail to spend even a second with Asher, and the only way was to bring the woman with him even at the meeting! He could only hope everything would be fine.

At this time, he had forgotten that he was going to meet Chloe Dawson, the infamous mother of Abigail who sold her own daughter. It was also where he encountered the accident in Abigail’s novel, dying without even knowing who killed him. The sole reason behind it was that Chloe didn’t like the business deal, and she wanted Nicholas out of the picture who was constantly getting in her way. The woman also wanted to make her daughter’s life miserable. It was shooting one target with two bullets.

But currently, they have yet to encounter that event.

At this time, Nicholas looked at Abigail and said, "You’re coming with me to the meeting."

Asher frowned. He was about to speak when the woman’s excited voice vibrated behind him.

"Okay!"
