The Villain Mom Awakens — Going Viral by Parenting on a Reality Show-Chapter 295: New Task
"We’re really happy we could help you. It’s because your watermelons are so good that we were able to sell them so quickly," Naomi Kenway said with a smile.
Hearing Naomi praise his watermelons, Nigati’s smile grew even wider. "I don’t mean to brag, but our watermelons are big and sweet—an absolute must-have for the hot summer!"
Naomi nodded and, after glancing around, asked, "What about the other guests? Have they all arrived?"
Nigati ushered Naomi’s family inside. "Ms. Raines and Ms. Preston’s families are already here."
Naomi and her family followed him in and soon saw the two other groups of guests resting inside the factory. It was an open area with a few fans set up nearby. Ruby Preston and Seth Sawyer were chatting about something, while Simon Sawyer sat off to the side, staring blankly and looking rather bored. Not far from them sat Chelsea Raines’s family. Gene Woods was lounging in a chair like a petty tyrant, with Jared Woods energetically massaging his shoulders, while Chelsea fanned him with a cattail fan.
Ruby Preston was the first to spot Naomi’s family. She waved. "You’re here."
There were a few empty chairs to Ruby’s left, so Naomi’s family sat down.
Ruby smiled and said, "We haven’t been properly introduced. This is my husband, Seth Sawyer. He’s a photographer."
Naomi nodded. "So you’re Mr. Sawyer. I once took my child to see your exhibition. Your piece, *Flying Bird*, left a deep impression on me."
Seth Sawyer looked very honest and kind. He nodded. "*Flying Bird* is the photographic work I’m most proud of."
Naomi then introduced her own husband. "This is my... husband, Ethan Shaw. His job is... running a company."
Ruby said, "No wonder. Mr. Shaw gives off the impression of being a member of the social elite."
"You’re too kind," Ethan Shaw said.
[I only called him President Shaw because it was easy, but I can’t believe he’s actually a president! He looks so rich!]
[His job is running a company, so does that mean he’s a total non-celebrity? His looks are unreal!]
[A CEO and a celebrity actress, they’re such a perfect match!]
[All the celebrity guests have partners who are just as outstanding as they are!]
...
Seth Sawyer stared blankly at Ethan Shaw’s face. Suddenly, as if remembering something, he asked tentatively, "Mr. Shaw, have we met somewhere before? Why is it..." He frowned slightly. "I just have this feeling I’ve seen you somewhere, but I can’t for the life of me remember where."
"Is that so?" Ethan Shaw said. "I don’t recall ever meeting you, Mr. Sawyer. Perhaps you’re mistaking me for someone else."
Ruby Preston said to Seth Sawyer, "I’ve told you before that you need to rest more. This isn’t the first time your memory has failed you."
Seth Sawyer could only accept this explanation. He gave an apologetic smile. "Perhaps I really am mistaken."
’He withdrew his gaze, his mind racing to remember. ’Logically, the chances of getting him confused with someone else are incredibly slim. After all, Ethan Shaw doesn’t have an average face. His features are incredibly distinctive.’
A moment later, Margaret Jennings’s family arrived. They were all smiling, and Carina Sanders held one of each of her parents’ hands, creating a very heartwarming scene.
Renee Jennings was the last to arrive, right on time. She was seen clinging affectionately to Nathaniel’s arm, seemingly whispering sweet nothings, while Nathaniel’s face was a mixture of resignation and doting affection. Their loving display was enough to make anyone envious.
When Chelsea Raines caught sight of Renee Jennings’s family, she couldn’t help but pause.
’To be honest, Renee Jennings has caused way more trouble than I have, and it’s not like she’s some paragon of virtue. But she just got lucky and married a good husband—one who’s gentle, doting, and would give her the moon and the stars. Renee’s status was barely high enough to get into this popular variety show; you could say she rode on Nathaniel’s coattails.’
"What are you spacing out for?" Gene Woods grumbled, dissatisfied.
Chelsea Raines snapped back to reality and resumed fanning with the cattail fan. She used to have a fiery temper, but her marriage had gradually worn down her sharp edges. She had long since grown numb to Gene Woods.
Nigati was grateful to all the guests on the show and kept having his factory workers bring out tea and watermelon.
The tour guide walked over holding a megaphone. "It looks like all our guests have arrived. Welcome, everyone. You’ve all seen the tasks on the task card, right?"
The seated guests all nodded in unison.
"Then let me quiz the little ones." His gaze shifted and landed on Ian Shaw. "Ian, do you remember what the task card said?"
Ian thought for a moment. He hadn’t seen the task card himself, but he had heard it when his mom read it aloud. "We have to prepare our own lunch and dinner. Our mission here is to earn money to buy food."
The tour guide said with a smile, "Excellent! It seems our Ian has a great memory! Now, as for how you’ll earn money, let me explain in detail."
He gestured with his arm and explained, "As you can all see, this is a factory for centrally processing and shipping watermelons. Yesterday, we completed the task of selling watermelons via livestream. The orders from the livestream platform are sent to several processing plants, and we are currently in one of the village’s factories, run by our good friend—Uncle Nigati."
Nigati smiled and waved. "We have nearly a hundred employees in this factory. They are mainly responsible for packing and hauling the watermelons. You all probably saw the delivery trucks outside. Our logistics are very fast; we can get the watermelons to the buyers in no more than three days."
"Thank you, Uncle Nigati, for that brief introduction," the guide continued. "Today’s task is to experience a day as factory employees. The main goal is to earn money. There are currently two jobs available, packing and hauling, and you’ll be paid by the piece."
"To ensure the show is entertaining, the production team has set a piece rate that is different from the standard. I also need to remind you that the pay for packing and hauling is different. Hauling pays thirty cents more per piece than packing. However, we don’t recommend blindly chasing the higher salary, as hauling is much more physically demanding than packing. Please choose a job that suits your physical condition. Entertainment first, earning money second."
He finished by saying, "So you can earn more money for groceries and other daily necessities, do your best, guests! Now, you can follow Uncle Nigati to learn more about these two jobs and then make your choice. I’ll take my leave now and not disturb you any further."
Wiping away sweat with a tissue, the tour guide said his last words and then quickly departed.
"Everyone, follow me!" Nigati called out.
Naomi Kenway’s family followed behind.
Naomi, remembering the task, asked Ethan Shaw, "Did you remember everything the guide just said about the task? Did you understand it?"
Ethan Shaw nodded.
