The Useless Heiress Is Actually A Bigshot-Chapter 185 - Murphy’s Law
Chapter 185 -185 Murphy’s Law
When Zhong Niangyao returned to the Zhong Family estate, it was already past midnight.
She proceeded cautiously, fearful of disturbing Old Sir Zhong and Old Madam Zhong.
Yet, to her surprise, as soon as she stepped through the door, she saw Old Sir Zhong waiting for her in the living room. For a moment, she actually felt a bit guilty.
“Hehe, Grandpa, you haven’t gone to bed yet!” exclaimed Zhong Niangyao with a playful laugh. Approaching Old Sir Zhong, she cooed, “Staying up so late, you’ll certainly meet your old friends tomorrow with huge dark circles under your eyes. They’ll surely laugh at you.”
“Stop being flippant,” Old Sir Zhong said sternly, his face tight, “You know it’s very late. So why have you only just come home?”
“Grandpa, today was an unusual situation!” Zhong Niangyao said, still smiling, “You know, I was assisting with a paranormal event! Ghosts don’t exactly appear in broad daylight!”
“What exactly happened today? Explain everything to me in detail,” Old Sir remained stern, “and don’t think about bluffing your way through.”
“Grandpa, it’s also quite late now,” Zhong Niangyao glanced at the time, “and, well, it’s a long story. Maybe—”
Before she could finish, Old Sir Zhong interrupted her, “Then make the long story short. If you don’t explain things clearly tonight, we’ll just keep at it here.”
Seeing Old Sir Zhong’s resolute expression, Zhong Niangyao had no choice but to narrate the events of the day. However, she obviously didn’t confess everything, just gave a brief account, omitting many details. She especially skipped over the dangerous aspects of the evil ghost.
Despite that, Old Sir Zhong listened with a heart full of alarm.
After he heard everything, he fell silent for a while before he couldn’t help but sigh deeply, “Yaoyao, you used to be stubborn and headstrong, and somewhat single-minded too. Your grandma and I were most worried about you. But now, even though you’ve become so capable, we are still most worried about you.”
“Grandpa, rest assured,” Zhong Niangyao replied with a smile, “I know my own limits well, and I greatly value my life. I intervened today because I knew I could handle it. If my life had been in real danger, I would have run faster than anyone.”
“Really?” Old Sir Zhong’s tone was filled with doubt, “Why do I feel like you’re just placating me?”
“Not at all, Grandpa,” Zhong Niangyao pointed at her own eyes, “Look into my eyes and see the sincerity. I’m a good kid, why would I deceive you?”
Watching Zhong Niangyao’s demeanor, Old Sir Zhong sighed again, “Yaoyao, I don’t know what you are really thinking. But, I hope you think of your grandma and me before doing anything. We don’t ask for you to be very successful, just want you to be safe.”
“Your father has been missing for so many years now. If something were to happen to you, how could we bear it?”
At Old Sir Zhong’s words, Zhong Niangyao was momentarily stunned, touched by what he said, and eventually responded, “Grandpa, I understand. Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to myself.”
Meanwhile, Black Impermanence had already escorted the evil ghost back to hell, reporting everything to King Yan.
King Yan became furious and immediately ordered a thorough investigation of the matter. Furthermore, the evil ghost was to endure the tortures of every level of hell before being allowed to reincarnate.
Moreover, because it had devoured many living souls, the evil ghost was barred from reincarnating as a human for a hundred lifetimes and was doomed to suffer as an animal in the Beast Path, enduring all worldly suffering.
Following the events of that evening, Zhong Niangyao still kept an eye on the follow-up to the case.
The police had announced that the serial killer responsible for the Huanshan Road murders had been apprehended. The perpetrator had resisted arrest and was shot dead on the spot.
This news relieved all the citizens.
However, during the investigation, the police discovered a body on Huanshan Road that had been dead for over a year, likely killed elsewhere and then dumped there.
Soon, this case of dumping a corpse also was solved. All related perpetrators were apprehended.
With that, the curtain fell on the entire case.
After this incident, Zhong Niangyao’s life returned to its peaceful routine.
Time flew quickly, and soon, summer vacation was approaching.
At the academy, everyone was preparing for the final exams.
Of course, the most diligent were the specially recruited students, particularly those admitted for their excellent grades, as the results of the final exams would determine their scholarships. Moreover, if they could not maintain their grades, their special admission would be revoked, and they would not be able to afford the hefty tuition fees.
Zhong Niangyao, however, was not very worried, firstly because the tuition fees were negligible for her current financial status—she could afford it easily even without the inheritance left by Zhong Mingxin.
Secondly, since arriving in this world, she had started studying these subjects early. Even though she had never learned these subjects before, with the original owner’s memories and her natural aptitude, she wasn’t sure she’d rank among the best, but she was confident she wouldn’t fall short either.

Strolling leisurely through the campus, Zhong Niangyao was in quite a good mood, until she encountered someone she didn’t want to see.
Seeing Chen Lianlian and Shen Yixue approaching her, she couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Tenglong Academy was so vast, yet why did she always run into people she didn’t want to see?
Was this what others referred to as Murphy’s Law, where whatever you least want to happen is exactly what happens?
Nonetheless, seeing these two together still left her somewhat surprised.
After Shen Yixue was exposed for stealing her artwork, Chen Lianlian, either to avoid suspicion or because she felt embarrassed, had begun distancing herself from Shen Yixue. Sometimes she would even turn around and walk away upon seeing Shen Yixue from a distance or ignore her even when face to face.
But now, seeing them chatting and laughing together, it was almost as if they had returned to their formerly close relationship. Was this due to the charm of Shen Yixue, or was there some other reason?
Regardless of the reason, it no longer had much to do with her.
