Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Full-bellied and Ungrateful

Merfolk, in traditional myths and folk tales, are generally depicted as kind and beautiful creatures, endowed with beauty, diligence, and mystery. Of course, some classical and foreign cultures also illustrate Merfolk as using their exquisite singing to lure passing ships and sailors, dragging them into the deep sea to devour them.

Qin Yu had also seen some movies about mermaids, and although the world’s opinions about these creatures of legend varied, one thing was almost universally agreed upon—that these creatures were born with an incomparable beauty.

Appearance, huh?

Qin Yu’s gaze fell upon the small girl’s snow-white little face, with delicate and fine features, an innocent and pure look in her eyes that contained not a trace of impurity. When she was silent and still, she didn’t seem like a real person, more like a porcelain doll that had escaped from a display window.

He had seen her grow up, and rather than diminishing her unreal and naïve aura, her normal size only increased its impact. It seemed she was inherently blessed with the ability to make others let down their guard easily.

“Indeed, a natural beauty.”

...

Qin Yu lifted her little face, speaking softly.

Ah Da was still struggling with the issue of the smell of blood, when suddenly her chin was pinched by him, abruptly interrupting her thoughts. She blinked with wide, bewildered eyes at the man before her.

“What…”

Qin Yu’s dark eyes drooped slightly as he caressed her cheek with the tips of his fingers, the low whisper that escaped him carried a seductive huskiness, “Sometimes, you really do seem like a little animal.”

Ah Da tilted her head and seriously, huffily corrected, “Not seem like, I’m not a human to begin with, Master Ting Chan said I’m a Merfolk.”

“So you’ve accepted it that quickly?” Qin Yu released her, leaning back with a ripple of grace across his handsome face.

With a smile on her lips and a sweet, soft voice that was clear and clean, Ah Da sounded endearingly pitiable, “But the fact is the fact, there’s nothing to not accept. Besides, Merfolk have the character for ‘human’ in their name, so that should count as half human, right? Plus, I don’t have a fish tail, I look just like a human from head to toe.”

As she spoke, she cupped her face with both hands, “Even if I go outside, nobody would think I’m a demon.”

When she first confirmed that she wasn’t human, Ah Da was a bit sad and lost. She had always thought she was human in her previous life, and after her perception shattered, she reformed it. That she had accepted the truth so quickly was entirely due to her optimistic nature.

She was naturally easy to please.

When she was in the incense burner, encountering any spirit or demon that could talk to her made her happy for days on end.

Qin Yu arched an eyebrow and curled his lips, pushing a small bowl of fruit toward her, “If you won’t eat meat, eat this.”

The vibrant fruit pieces, transparent and plump, chopped into small cubes and soaked in milk, a sweetly rich scent wafting over. Ah Da’s taste buds, which had just been assaulted by the smell of blood, were revived with excitement. This looked so delicious.

Qin Yu handed her a wooden skewer, weightless and just the right length; Ah Da could lift it with one hand. She stood next to the bowl, piercing a piece of red fruit and bringing it to her mouth. With one bite, she was met with the sweet flavor and the fruit melted instantly.

The texture was crisp, and the coolness was soothing.

Qin Yu watched the cheeks of her face, his long and fair fingers rhythmically tapping the table. Watching her eat brought him an unexpected sense of pleasure.

“Does it taste good?”

After swallowing the sweetness in her mouth, Ah Da smiled contentedly and nodded emphatically at him, “Delicious!”

“Good, then eat more.” Qin Yu’s posture was relaxed as he gestured to the food on the table, “All of this is yours now.”

The petite girl’s slim arms and legs, her entire body didn’t seem to have much flesh on it. She should eat more, lest he would take her out and others might think he was depriving her of food.

It looked like he needed to nourish her carefully, to fatten her up a bit.

Ah Da looked around the table, which displayed at least a dozen different types of foods in small portions. Even though there wasn’t much of each, it was definitely more than enough for her current size.

“You eat,” Ah Da shook her head and refused, pointing her skewer at the fruit in front of her, “I’m fine with just this.”

Bronze Sword lightly teased, “I don’t eat.”

Ah Da’s eyes widened in surprise, “You’re full just from that tiny piece of meat?” What a waste for such a big guy.

“Not hungry.” Bronze Sword stared at her, his fingers tapping twice on the table, urging her, “Eat quickly, it’s getting late.”

Ah Da uttered an “oh,” no longer fixating on whether he ate or not. After all, everything he didn’t eat would be hers.

Of course, that excluded the half-cooked meat with a bloody smell.

Out of politeness, Ah Da still asked in advance, “May I try a little bit of everything?”

Bronze Sword raised an eyebrow, “You may.”

“Great.” Ah Da’s eyes instantly sparkled, and she started feasting with her chopsticks, creating a spectacular scene that resembled a gluttonous banquet, despite her small palm-sized body.

Half an hour later, Ah Da slumped over the dining table, lazily burping while leaning back against a vase, her belly slightly swollen. She was so stuffed that even breathing through her open mouth felt difficult.

Everything tasted so good, she accidentally overate.

She thought back to the bland days she spent in the incense burner and no wonder her demon friends were tripping over themselves to go out and be human – the benefits were plentiful.

Ah Da even wondered if she would feel happier and more satisfied eating if she got hungry like normal people.

Just as Ah Da was content and drowsy from the feast, she suddenly felt something pressing on her belly. Opening her eyes, she saw a finger, and looking further, she saw its owner frowning, apparently witnessing something marvelous.

He, he, he… was touching her belly!

Ah Da instantly flared up, her face turning beet red. She pushed away his finger violently and turned her body to block her stomach.

!!!

She had been so absorbed in eating that she completely forgot about Bronze Sword sitting beside the dining table, entirely oblivious to his presence.

“So, you turn your back on me after you’re fed and watered?”

Bronze Sword’s cool voice came from behind her, causing Ah Da’s ears to burn even hotter. After hesitating for a while, she turned around with her eyes closed, her expression resolute like a courageous person facing their end.

“You… go ahead and touch.”

She should have known that Bronze Sword wouldn’t let her take advantage without giving something in return. Considering how happy and satisfied she was from eating, letting him touch her belly didn’t seem to be a big deal, especially since he often kneaded and manhandled her.

One more time wouldn’t make a difference, just as one less time wouldn’t matter.

Incense Burner had said before that there’s no such thing as a free lunch, that everything comes with a price. She could consider this the cost of having a free dinner.

Ah Da comforted herself with eyes still closed, but instead of feeling her belly being touched, she heard a low chuckle by her ear.

Opening her eyes, she saw Bronze Sword sitting in a chair looking lazily at her, the corners of his mouth turned up with an obvious smile.

His features were already delicate and bright. He usually had a cold expression with pursed lips that made people afraid to look directly at him, but now, this smile was genuine and pure. Like the melting of ice and snow on a high mountain, it seemed to tear through a hazy veil, stunningly peerless and endlessly charming, making people willingly sink for him.

Ah Da was already familiar with Bronze Sword, yet she still found herself speechless at his stunning appearance. He was just too handsome.

The smile on Bronze Sword’s lips slightly receded as he sat up straight, his finger lightly touching her belly. He never would have imagined her to be such a glutton – her clothes couldn’t even cover her swollen stomach.

“Doesn’t it feel bloated?”
