the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart-Chapter 865: Attending the Banquet as Mrs. Li?
Delphine entered from the courtyard and noticed the atmosphere between the Leclair siblings was somewhat strange.
In fact, the ambiance at the Leclair mansion had been tense recently.
Except for the old master and the little ones, everyone seemed weighed down with worries.
Bessie Leclair saw Delphine come in, took an invitation out of her bag, tossed it to Delphine, and said coldly, "Three days from now, it’s my parents’ wedding anniversary. It’s hard to say who was right or wrong back then, but now that you’re my sister-in-law, you ought to have an invitation."
After throwing the invitation, Bessie didn’t bother with dinner and left hastily after saying a word to the old master.
Holding the invitation, Delphine felt her heart race a little.
Nathan Leclair stared at her for a long time and said, "Bessie is like a mad dog that bites; stay away from her."
Delphine was somewhat surprised that Nathan would say such a thing. Did he really have feelings for her when he was younger? But as the years went by, whatever might have been, had all vanished with time. They wouldn’t even have an in-law relationship in the future.
Delphine clutched the invitation, nodded at Nathan, went up to the top floor, locked the door, and quickly opened it.
Bessie’s parents’ wedding anniversary was to be held at the Nanyang Hotel, still on the top floor. Such a grand occasion wasn’t unlike Bessie’s wedding back then. Perhaps they deliberately chose the same hotel and venue to settle that old score.
Inside the invitation was a card with only a phone number on it.
Delphine tucked the card into her bag and quietly breathed a sigh of relief. The only headache now was how to bring up attending the wedding anniversary to Ignatius Leclair without making him suspicious since she and Bessie never got along.
Having made up her mind to bring it up with Ignatius, Delphine didn’t sleep, waiting for him to return.
Ignatius was busy in the study until past midnight before entering the bedroom.
When the man pushed the door open, he saw the room lit with a soft, warm orange light, which made him pause for a moment. Afraid of disturbing Delphine and the children these past few days, he mostly didn’t turn on the lights, fumbling around by the dim night light to bathe and sleep, not knowing how many times he’d bumped into walls.
Almost falling asleep, Delphine saw his tall and slender figure appear, felt a little tense, sat up, and said in a low voice, "I have something to talk to you about."
The woman’s slender, graceful silhouette was enveloped in the night and the gentle light, her delicate features appearing more and more pure and charming. She sat at the front of the bed, yet Ignatius felt this woman was clearly etched in his heart,
The man walked over, stood at the foot of the bed, looked as her slender shadow was completely enveloped by his own form, as if his shadow was embracing hers, the corners of his thin lips curling slightly as he hoarsely said, "What is it, tell me."
Delphine pondered for a long time. Ignatius was not like ordinary people; observant and quick-witted, he could infer someone’s intentions from the slightest trace. She might as well be straightforward with him to avoid any missteps.
"Bessie gave me an invitation; in three days, it’s her parents’ wedding anniversary, and I would like to go," she said, then quietly waited for Ignatius’ reply.
The man lowered his eyes, looking at her delicate face bathed in the lamplight, and after a long while, said in a deep voice, "Attending as Mrs. Leclair is fine; any other identity would be inappropriate."
The man dominantly set the condition.
The last time at Stone Leclair’s birthday celebration, Ignatius had intended to introduce her identity, but things didn’t go as planned. Delphine lightly furrowed her brows. If her identity were announced this time, and then the newly-recognized Mrs. Leclair disappeared overnight, filing for divorce with Ignatius, it would seem like a farce no matter how you looked at it. But at this point, she had no other options.
"Alright then," she said hesitantly, somewhat reluctantly.
