The Twisted Obsession-Chapter 290: Found out
Chapter 290: Found out
The sky was overcast, a fitting backdrop for the somber occasion. Abby stood at the edge of her father’s grave, the freshly turned earth still dark and moist. Her shoulders were slumped, and her usually composed demeanor was shattered, reflected in the way she clutched her coat tightly around her. Large sunglasses obscured her eyes, but Cage could sense the depth of her grief and exhaustion.
Cage had been surprised when he received Abby’s call. After their last encounter, he hadn’t heard from her, and he’d assumed she wanted nothing more to do with him. Yet here he was, standing beside her at her parents grave, feeling a mixture of sadness and confusion. He glanced at Abby, noting the tension in her posture.
As they stood in silence, Abby’s soft voice broke through the stillness. "He found out the truth," she whispered, barely audible over the whispering wind.
Cage’s eyes widened in surprise. He knew exactly what Abby was referring to. "H-how?" he stammered, his mind racing with possibilities.
Abby sighed deeply, her breath visible in the cold air. "An acquaintance told him. She had proof and everything. I didn’t have the strength to deny it." Her voice trembled slightly, betraying the emotions she was struggling to keep in check.
"Abby..." Cage started, but she cut him off with a wave of her hand.
"He said he needed space for a while to process the truth," Abby continued, her voice breaking. "I understand, but it doesn’t make it any easier."
Cage felt a pang of sympathy for her. He knew how much she cared about Remo, how hard she had worked to build a life with him. The revelation of her past must have hit him like a ton of bricks. He reached out, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. freёnovelkiss-com
"I’m so sorry, Abby," Cage said softly. "I know how much this must hurt."
Abby removed her sunglasses, revealing red-rimmed eyes filled with unshed tears. She looked at Cage, her vulnerability laid bare. "I never wanted him to find out like this. I thought I could keep it buried, that we could move on from it. But now... everything’s falling apart."
Cage pulled her into a gentle hug, feeling her body tremble against his. "You’re stronger than you think, Abby. You’ll get through this."
She pulled back slightly, looking up at him with a mixture of gratitude and despair. "I don’t know if I can. Everything feels so broken. My father’s gone, and now Remo... I don’t know what to do."
Cage’s heart ached for her. He wished he could take away her pain, but he knew all he could do was offer his support. "You have to give him time, Abby. He needs to process everything. But he loves you. That won’t change."
Abby nodded, but her expression remained troubled. "I hope you’re right. I just... I hate feeling so helpless."
They stood in silence for a while longer, the weight of the moment pressing down on them. Finally, Abby spoke again, her voice barely above a whisper. "Do you think he’ll ever forgive me?"
Cage considered her question carefully. "I think he will, Abby. But it’s going to take time. And you need to be patient, not just with him, but with yourself too."
Abby nodded, wiping away a stray tear. "Thank you, Cage. I appreciate you being here. I didn’t know who else to call."
"You don’t have to thank me," Cage replied. "I’m here for you, no matter what. We’ve been through too much together for me to turn my back on you now."
Abby managed a small, grateful smile. "I know. And it means a lot to me."
They lingered by the grave, each lost in their thoughts. Cage thought about their shared history, the ups and downs they had faced together. He admired Abby’s resilience, even in the face of such overwhelming adversity. He knew she would find a way to move forward, even if the path ahead seemed uncertain.
"Do you remember when we used to come here as kids?" Abby suddenly asked, breaking the silence. "My father would bring us here to visit my mother’s grave."
Cage nodded, recalling the bittersweet memories. "Yeah, I remember. He was always so protective of you."
Abby’s expression softened, a hint of nostalgia in her eyes. "He was. He always tried to shield me from the worst of it. I guess I just wish I could talk to him now, ask him for advice."
Cage squeezed her hand reassuringly. "He’d tell you to keep fighting, to stay strong. That’s what he always wanted for you."
Abby nodded, taking a deep breath. "You’re right. He always believed in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself."
The cold wind whipped around them, but neither seemed to notice. They were both lost in their thoughts, contemplating the challenges that lay ahead.
Abby glanced at Cage, a faint smile touching her lips. "How are things with you? Especially with Lily?"
Cage’s lips curved into a smile. "Good. Really good."
"You must really love her," Abby remarked, her voice gentle.
Cage shrugged, but there was a warmth in his eyes. "Yeah, I do."
Abby nodded, her smile growing. "I’m happy for you. You deserve it."
Cage’s smile widened. "Thanks, Abby. That means a lot coming from you."
Abby’s expression grew more serious. "Her mother still hasn’t reached out?"
Cage sighed, shaking his head. "No. Do you think she survived?"
Abby nodded slowly. "Yeah, someone helped her to escape. Now it’s like a time bomb. We’re just waiting for her to show up."
Cage’s face darkened with concern. "That’s a troubling thought. What do you think she’ll do?"
"I don’t know," Abby admitted. "But we need to be prepared for anything. She’s not going to let this go easily."
Cage could see the anxiety etched on Abby’s face. He knew she was right. Margaret was a dangerous loose end, one that could come back to haunt them at any moment. "We’ll handle it, Abby. Whatever happens, we’ll handle it together."
Abby gave him a grateful look. "Thank you, Cage. Your support means more to me than you know."
