The Twisted Obsession-Chapter 277: Away
Chapter 277: Away
Remo stared at the documents in front of him, but the words blurred together, refusing to form coherent sentences. His mind was elsewhere, tangled in a web of emotions and uncertainties that refused to untangle. He sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair in frustration. The office, usually a place of order and productivity, felt suffocating today.
Tony, noticed his distraction. He had been watching Remo for the past hour, observing the way his friend’s focus waned and his mood darkened. Finally, he decided to break the silence.
"What’s wrong, Remo?" Tony asked, leaning back in his chair, his eyes filled with concern.
Remo glanced up, meeting Tony’s gaze. For a moment, he considered brushing off the question, but the weight of his thoughts was too heavy to bear alone. He sighed again, a long, weary exhalation.
"It’s Abby," Remo admitted, his voice tinged with frustration and sorrow.
Tony nodded, his expression softening. "You’re fighting with Abby?"
Remo nodded, his fingers tapping nervously on the desk. "She asked me if I love her."
Tony’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. "And what did you say?"
Remo shook his head, his frustration boiling over. "It’s not that simple, Tony. I told her the truth. I told her I care about her deeply, but I’m not sure if I can love her. Not in the way she wants, not in the way she deserves."
Tony leaned forward, his eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "But you do love her," he said, a statement rather than a question. "Don’t you?"
Remo’s frustration turned into a knot in his chest, tightening with every heartbeat. "You know, Tony, I’m scared. I’m scared of losing her, of not being able to protect her from the pain I carry. What if I lose her like I lost Bella?"
Tony’s expression softened with understanding. "Remo, Bella’s death was a tragedy, and it’s haunted you for a long time. But Abby isn’t Bella. She’s here, now, and she loves you. You can’t keep holding back because of something that happened in the past."
Remo stood up abruptly, pacing the length of the office. His mind was a storm of conflicting emotions—love, fear, guilt, and frustration all swirling together in a chaotic dance. "I know that, Tony. But it’s not that easy. Loving someone means opening yourself up to the possibility of losing them, and I don’t know if I can go through that again."
Tony watched his friend with a mixture of sympathy and exasperation. "You can’t live your life in fear, Remo. What happened to Bella was out of your control. But you have a chance with Abby, a chance to build something real and meaningful. Don’t let your fear destroy that."
Remo stopped pacing and turned to face Tony, his eyes filled with a desperate plea for understanding. "I want to be with her, Tony. I really do. But every time I think about opening my heart to her, I’m paralyzed by the thought of losing her. I don’t know how to move past that."
Tony stood up and walked over to his friend, placing a reassuring hand on Remo’s shoulder. "You move past it by taking one step at a time. You don’t have to have all the answers right now. Just be honest with Abby, tell her what you’re feeling. She deserves that much."
Remo nodded slowly, Tony’s words sinking in. "I know you’re right. I need to talk to her, to explain why I’m afraid."
Tony squeezed his shoulder. "And she’ll understand, Remo. Abby’s strong. She loves you, and she’ll stand by you if you let her."
Remo took a deep breath, feeling a small measure of resolve building within him. "I’ll talk to her tonight. I’ll tell her everything."
Tony smiled, a warm, encouraging expression. "Good. It’s about time you faced your fears, Remo. You deserve to be happy, and so does Abby."
Remo felt a flicker of hope amidst the storm of his emotions. For the first time in days, he felt a glimmer of clarity, a path forward. He thanked Tony and returned to his desk, determined to finish his work and go home to Abby.
The hours passed slowly, but finally, the workday came to an end. Remo gathered his things and headed home, his heart pounding with a mixture of anticipation and dread. He knew the conversation with Abby wouldn’t be easy, but it was necessary. He needed to confront his fears, to open up to her in a way he hadn’t before.
When he walked through the front door, the house was eerily quiet. Remo called out, "Abby?" but received no response. A sense of unease settled over him as he moved from room to room, searching for her. The kitchen, the living room, the study—each one empty.
Panic began to creep in. He hurried up the stairs to the bedroom, hoping to find her there. When he pushed the door open, his heart sank. The room was empty, the bed neatly made. But there, on the pillow, was an envelope with his name written on it in Abby’s handwriting.
With trembling hands, Remo picked up the envelope and opened it, pulling out the letter inside. He began to read, his eyes scanning the words with growing dread.
"Remo, freewebnøvel_com
I need some time away to think. The past few days have been incredibly difficult, and I need space to figure out what I want and need. I’m going on a vacation to clear my mind. Please don’t worry about me—Fredrick has already taken care of my protection.
This isn’t goodbye, but I need this time to sort through my feelings. I hope you understand.
Abby"
Remo sank onto the bed, the letter falling from his hands. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions—fear, guilt, sadness. He had been so focused on his own fears that he hadn’t realized how deeply he had been hurting Abby.
He picked up the letter again, reading the words over and over. The house felt emptier than ever, and Remo was left alone with his thoughts. He had to face the reality of the situation—he had pushed Abby away with his fears and insecurities. Now, all he could do was hope that she would find the clarity she needed and that they could rebuild what had been broken.
Remo stood up and walked to the window, staring out into the night. The city lights twinkled in the distance, a stark contrast to the darkness that had settled in his heart. He took a deep breath, vowing to face his fears and be the man Abby needed him to be.
For now, he would wait and hope that she would come back to him. And when she did, he would be ready to fight for their love, no matter what it took.
