Chapter 271: A visit

Abby took a deep breath as she approached the entrance of the mental hospital, the heavy metal door looming ahead of her like a gate to another world. Fredrick walked behind her, his presence a steady reassurance. The stark, sterile smell of disinfectant hit her as they stepped inside, the harsh fluorescent lights casting an unforgiving glare on the white walls. Each step echoed ominously, amplifying her anticipation and resolve.

They walked down a long corridor, passing rooms with small windows, each revealing glimpses of patients in various states of disarray. Abby’s heart pounded in her chest, a mix of anticipation and resolve driving her forward. She had waited for this moment for so long, and now it was finally here.

Finally, they reached the room where Margaret was being held. Abby peered through the small window in the door, her eyes narrowing as she saw the woman inside. Margaret looked dreadful—her once perfectly coiffed hair now a tangled mess, her eyes wild and bloodshot. She was pacing back and forth, muttering to herself.

Abby pushed open the door and stepped inside, Fredrick following closely behind. Margaret stopped in her tracks, her eyes locking onto Abby with a mixture of recognition and rage.

"You!" Margaret screamed, her voice hoarse and filled with venom. "What are you doing here?"

Abby smiled, a cold, satisfied smile that didn’t reach her eyes. She signaled to the doctor standing by the door, who quickly moved to give Margaret a shot. The sedative took effect almost immediately, and Margaret’s frantic movements slowed, her eyes focusing as she saw Fredrick for the first time.

"Fredrick," Margaret gasped, her voice tinged with shock. "What are you doing with Abby?"

Fredrick stared at her, his face devoid of any warmth or affection. In fact, he looked disgusted. "Margaret," he said coldly.

Abby chuckled, the sound icy and mocking. "Oh, you’re really slow, aren’t you? Still haven’t figured it out?"

Margaret’s eyes widened in shock, her mind racing to make sense of what was happening. "N-no, n-no Fredrick, you didn’t—did you?" she stammered, looking at him with a desperate plea in her eyes.

Fredrick’s gaze hardened. "I did. The tea I laced it with a little potion for a witch like you ," he said, his voice laced with contempt. "That’s why you’ve gone mad."

Margaret’s face twisted with rage. "You bitch! I will kill you!" she screamed, lunging towards Abby. But Fredrick intervened, pushing her to the floor with a firm shove.

Abby stepped back, watching the scene unfold with a mixture of satisfaction and disgust. "I came to update you on what’s happening," she said, her voice dripping with malice. "Your dear daughter just murdered Alex. Your husband is about to face trial, though I don’t think he’ll make it to court. Because guess who is going to fuck him over?"

Margaret’s face paled, her expression a mask of horror. "If you dare hurt my husband, I will kill you!" she screamed, her voice desperate.

Abby leaned in closer, her smile widening. "Oh, it won’t be me. Someone else will do the dirty work. Otis is currently investigating who killed his dear son, and guess who the murderer is?"

Margaret looked defeated, her shoulders slumping as the realization sank in. Abby’s eyes gleamed with triumph as she watched the woman who had once tormented her finally break.

Abby lowered her face to Margaret, her voice a deadly whisper. "My parents were so good to you, but you and your greedy husband killed them. Your own sister! I’m going to make sure you rot here, living with the ghosts of your past."

Margaret’s eyes filled with tears, her body trembling as she lay on the cold, hard floor. "Please," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Please don’t do this."

Abby straightened, looking down at Margaret with a mixture of pity and contempt. "It’s too late for pleas, Margaret. This is the fate you chose."

Margaret lunged again, but this time Fredrick’s strong grip held her back. "You’re done, Margaret," he said, his voice a cold, final verdict.

Abby turned to leave, her heart pounding with adrenaline and satisfaction. Fredrick followed her, his eyes never leaving the broken figure on the floor. As they walked down the corridor, Abby felt a sense of closure. She had confronted her past, and now it was time to move forward.

Fredrick glanced at her as they stepped outside into the cool evening air. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice gentle.

Abby nodded, taking a deep breath. "Yes," she said softly. "I’m okay. I’m finally okay."

They walked in silence for a few moments, the weight of the encounter lingering between them. Abby felt a strange mix of emotions—relief, sadness, and a grim satisfaction. She had done what needed to be done, and now she could begin to heal.

Back in the hospital, Margaret lay on the floor, her mind racing with memories of the past. She saw her sister’s smiling face, heard her laughter, felt the warmth of her love. And she knew that Abby was right—she would rot here, living with the ghosts of her past.

But Abby would move forward, free from the chains of her past, and Margaret would be left to face the consequences of her actions. It was a fitting end, and as Abby walked away from the hospital, she felt a sense of peace she hadn’t felt in years.

She glanced at Fredrick, who had been her rock through all of this. "Thank you," she said quietly. "For everything."

Fredrick smiled, his eyes filled with affection. "Always," he said simply.

The evening air was cool and refreshing, a stark contrast to the oppressive atmosphere inside. Abby didn’t notice the truck parked just a few yards away, its engine idling quietly.

The man in the truck watched them intently, his cap pulled low over his face, casting a shadow that concealed his features. His eyes followed their every movement, and his expression was hidden but intense. As Abby and Fredrick got into their car and drove away, he remained motionless, his gaze fixed on the retreating vehicle.

Once their car was out of sight, he turned his attention back to the mental facility. A deep frown etched lines into his face.
