Chapter 260: Disgraced

When Fredrick arrived, he found Margaret sitting outside the coffee shop, her face drawn and her eyes red from crying. He rushed to her side, his concern evident.

"Margaret, what happened?" he asked, helping her into the car.

"The media," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "They were waiting for me. They knew about us, about everything. And Lily... she saw it all."

Fredrick’s expression darkened with anger. "Those vultures. I’m so sorry, Margaret. We’ll figure this out."

He drove her back to his place, his mind racing with possible solutions. They needed to come up with a strategy to address the media, to control the narrative before it spiraled even further out of control.

As they walked into the apartment, Margaret felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her. She sank onto the couch, her mind still reeling from the events of the morning.

. "I need to talk to her, Fredrick. I need to make her understand."

"You will," he assured her, sitting down beside her and taking her hand.

The whole nation wasn’t in shock—scandal had become almost a routine spectacle—but the news of Mrs. Harrison and her mysterious young lover spread like wildfire. The photo, while not capturing Fredrick’s face, showed enough of their body language to fuel rampant speculation. Headlines screamed about the affair, painting Margaret as a betrayer, and James as a cuckolded fool.

In his opulent study, James Harrison stared at the newspaper, his eyes burning with rage. The image of Margaret and Fredrick, their bodies close and intimate, was a dagger to his pride. He picked up his glass of whiskey, glaring at the picture as if he could will it to disappear. When the sight became too much, he hurled the glass against the wall, the shattering sound a small release for the storm brewing inside him.

"That woman," he growled, his voice low and dangerous. "She dares to disgrace me like this, making me a laughing stock."

He paced the room, his mind racing with thoughts of revenge and retribution. Anger wasn’t a strong enough word to describe what he was feeling. He felt humiliated, betrayed, and worst of all, exposed. His hands clenched into fists as he thought about the whispers, the mocking smiles, the pitying looks.

"Good," he muttered to himself, his eyes gleaming with a sinister light. "Good. She wants to play games? I’ll show her how it’s done."

He sat down at his desk, his mind churning with plans. Margaret thought she could humiliate him and get away with it? She thought she could just walk away from the mess they had created together? No, she would pay for this. She and her lover.

James had always known that Margaret was unhappy, but he had never imagined she would go this far. The image of her with another man, flaunting their affair so openly, was more than he could bear. He had thought he had control over her, that she would never have the courage to defy him so blatantly. But he had underestimated her resolve.

His mind raced with thoughts of retribution. He would deal with her, but not just yet. He was a man who believed in strategy, in waiting for the perfect moment to strike. And strike he would, with all the power and fury he could muster.

James picked up another glass, his fingers gripping it tightly as he poured himself more whiskey. He needed to think clearly, to plan his next move. The scandal had already done considerable damage to his reputation and his business, but he wouldn’t let it destroy him completely. He would rebuild, and he would do so on the ruins of those who had wronged him.

The phone on his desk buzzed, snapping him out of his thoughts. He glanced at the caller ID and saw it was his lawyer. Taking a deep breath, he answered.

"What do you have for me?" James asked, his voice cold and hard.

"Mr. Harrison, we’ve been monitoring the situation closely," the lawyer began. "The media frenzy is intense, but it’s also somewhat unfocused. They don’t have a clear picture of who the man is with Mrs. Harrison. This gives us some room to maneuver."

James listened intently, his mind already working on potential angles. "What about the company? How is this affecting our stock and our stakeholders?"

"There’s been a significant drop in stock prices, and stakeholders are expressing concern," the lawyer replied. "However, we’ve managed to calm some of the immediate panic. We need to take decisive action to show that the company is still under strong leadership."

James’s eyes narrowed. "I understand. Keep working on that. In the meantime, I have a more personal matter to attend to."

The lawyer hesitated. "Mr. Harrison, I must advise caution. Any rash actions could exacerbate the situation."

James’s grip tightened on the phone. "I know what I’m doing. Just handle the company. I’ll deal with Margaret."

He ended the call and downed the whiskey in one go, the burning liquid fueling his determination. He would not be made a fool of. Margaret thought she could escape his grasp, but she was wrong. Very wrong.

James rose from his chair and walked to the window, staring out at the city below. He had built his empire from the ground up, and he would not let it crumble because of one woman’s betrayal. He would bide his time, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. And when he did, Margaret would feel the full force of his wrath.

The image of her with that man played over and over in his mind, each repetition stoking the fires of his anger. He would make sure she regretted every moment of her defiance. She had dared to disgrace him publicly, and he would ensure her punishment was just as public, just as humiliating.

James Harrison stood by the window of his study, the city lights flickering in the distance. His mind was a storm of thoughts and plans, all centered on one thing: retribution. Margaret had dared to disgrace him, and for that, she would pay dearly.

He turned back to his desk, the remnants of the shattered glass still scattered on the floor. He barely noticed the mess, his focus entirely on the strategy forming in his mind. He would wait for the right moment, and when it came, he would strike with all the precision and ruthlessness that had built his empire.
