Chapter 259: Affair

Margaret moved to the window, looking out at the quiet street below. The world seemed so calm and peaceful, a stark contrast to the turmoil that had been her life with James. She felt a sense of relief and liberation, knowing that she had made the right choice for herself and for Lily.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps. She turned to see Fredrick coming back into the room, a warm smile on his face. "Everything okay?"h he asked, his eyes filled with concern.

Margaret nodded, smiling back. "Yes, everything’s fine. I was just... taking it all in."

Fredrick walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close. "I know this is a big change," he said softly. "But we’ll get through it together. You’re safe here."

Margaret leaned into him, feeling the strength and comfort of his embrace. "Thank you, Fredrick. For everything."

He kissed the top of her head, holding her close for a moment longer. "You don’t have to thank me. I’m just glad you’re here."

They stood like that for a few minutes, savoring the closeness and the sense of security that came with it. Margaret felt a renewed sense of determination. She had made a difficult decision, but it was the right one. And with Fredrick by her side, she felt ready to face whatever came next.

After a while, Fredrick pulled back slightly, looking into her eyes. "How about we take a walk? There’s a beautiful park nearby, and I think the fresh air would do us both some good."

Margaret smiled, nodding. "That sounds perfect."

They grabbed their coats and stepped outside, the crisp morning air invigorating them both. As they walked hand in hand, Margaret felt a sense of peace and optimism.

They strolled through the park, enjoying the beauty of the flowers and the gentle rustling of the leaves in the breeze.

As they sat on a bench overlooking a serene pond, Margaret turned to Fredrick, her heart full. "I never thought I would find myself here, with you. It all feels so surreal."

Fredrick took her hand, his thumb gently caressing her palm. "Life has a way of surprising us, doesn’t it? But I’m glad you’re here, Margaret. We have a chance to build something beautiful together."

Margaret looked into his eyes, feeling the truth of his words. "I’m glad too, Fredrick. I feel like I can finally breathe again."

The next morning, Margaret woke with a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. Today she would meet Lily at their favorite coffee shop to discuss everything that had happened. Fredrick, ever supportive, offered to drive her there, sensing her anxiety.

As they pulled up to the cozy little café, Margaret gave Fredrick a grateful smile. "Thank you for driving me," she said, her voice filled with gratitude.

"Of course," Fredrick replied, squeezing her hand. "I’ll be back to pick you up in an hour. Good luck, Margaret."

She nodded and stepped out of the car, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves. But as soon as Fredrick drove away, she found herself surrounded by a swarm of reporters, cameras flashing and microphones thrust in her direction.

"Mrs. Harrison, who is the young man in the pictures?"

"Are you having an affair?"

"Are you leaving your husband because the company is failing?"

The questions came at her like a barrage of bullets, each one hitting its mark and leaving her reeling. Margaret’s heart pounded as she tried to make sense of what was happening. She realized with horror that someone must have seen her with Fredrick yesterday aand tipped off the media.

"Please, no comments," she said, trying to push through the crowd, her voice barely audible over the clamor.

But the reporters were relentless, their questions growing more invasive and aggressive. "Mrs. Harrison, are you abandoning your husband in his time of need?"

Margaret’s mind raced. She had to find Lily, explain everything before the media’s twisted narrative reached her daughter. She finally broke through the throng of reporters and entered the coffee shop, her eyes scanning the room for Lily.

Her heart sank when she saw Lily standing near the counter, her face pale and a look of disgust etched across her features. The reporters had followed Margaret inside, their cameras still flashing, and Lily had clearly heard every word.

"Lily, wait," Margaret called out, her voice desperate.

But Lily turned away, her expression one of betrayal and anger. "I can’t believe this," she said, her voice trembling. "I thought you were different, Mom. I thought you cared about us."

"Lily, please," Margaret pleaded, reaching out to her daughter. "It’s not what it looks like. Let me explain."

But Lily shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "No, Mom. I don’t want to hear it. I can’t believe you would do this to us, to Dad."

With that, Lily turned and walked out of the coffee shop, leaving Margaret standing there, surrounded by the relentless media. Her heart felt like it was breaking into a million pieces as she watched her daughter walk away.

The reporters continued to hound her, but their voices faded into the background as Margaret’s world narrowed down to the pain of seeing the look of betrayal in Lily’s eyes. She had to find a way to make this right, to explain the truth and repair the damage that had been done.

As the reporters finally backed off, realizing they wouldn’t get any more answers from her, Margaret sank into a chair, her hands trembling. She pulled out her phone and tried calling Lily, but it went straight to voicemail.

"Lily, please call me back," she said, her voice choked with emotion. "I need to explain. I love you."

She ended the call and sat there, staring at the phone, willing it to ring. But it remained silent, and the weight of the situation pressed down on her like a heavy blanket.

Margaret knew she couldn’t stay there any longer. She needed to get away from the prying eyes and figure out how to fix this. She texted Fredrick, asking him to come pick her up as soon as possible.

As she waited, she tried to gather her thoughts, to come up with a plan to salvage her relationship with Lily and protect her family from further damage. She knew it wouldn’t be easy, but she was determined to do whatever it took to make things right.
