The System Sent Me to Breed an All-Female Amazon Tribe-Chapter 259: Your Display of Familiarity with Father Disturbs Me
"Grey Ivy... is sorry for causing trouble..." she said softly, her voice quiet but steady as she bowed her head just a little, the words coming out with visible effort.
Awwwwwn, the way she stood there being all shy made something warm tug at me.
It was hard to picture her as the same being full of eyes who had stood on that raised platform not long ago, towering and terrifying.
But hey, her voice came out soft and very feminine now, each word rolling off her tongue with a gentle lilt that hadn’t been there before.
It was nothing like the croaky, evil-witch-stepmother tone she used to have.
That one grated on the ears like nails on old wood.
I reached out and patted Grey’s head gently, my palm resting for a moment on her smooth dark hair.
Then I gave her a small nod to let her know she had done well, and watched as her shoulders relaxed just a fraction.
The fairies—minus the still-excited Roselyn the, and those Superior Spirits who floated with their usual detached calm—stood there with mouths slightly agape and eyes wide.
They were clearly shocked by Grey’s sincere(?) apology as it hung in the air between them.
Haha... But what language had she even used to communicate though?
I personally just understand every language on default because apparently I am a god-touched or something complicated like that.
But how exactly had she managed the communication part so smoothly?
{Answer: Master has no need for it, but there is a conscious act of turning one’s intentions into words and speaking it into the language that the receiver will understand. It is called [Universal Communication], and can only be used by notably high-level existences.}
Ah, but we god-touched get it on default. Gotcha, that clears things up nicely.
Alright then, it was time for Briar to step forward and say her greetings to everyone gathered there.
Ah, she looked so cute and shy the way she kept holding onto the edge of my shirt with those small fingers, her body half-hidden behind me like she wanted to disappear into the fabric.
I urged her forward with a light nudge of my hand against her back, speaking softly, "Don’t worry about it, they won’t bite or anything like that. Just go ahead and introduce yourself."
So she turned her expressionless gaze toward me first, those crystal blue eyes steady and unblinking, then gave a single slow nod without changing her face at all.
She then regarded the fairies... tilting her small neck in a haughty angle so that her chin lifted slightly, her brows drawing together in a sharp line that made her eyes narrow as if she were peering down at peasants from the height of a raised platform.
Subsequently, her lips pressed into a thin, superior line while her shoulders squared with unmistakable pride.
Ara?
"My exalted name is Briar, bestowed upon me by my divine Creator and father," her small voice rang out clearly, carrying an unmistakable ring of hubris as her blue eyes slowly scanned across the appalled fairies whose wings fluttered in sudden discomfort.
She continued; "Your display of familiarity with father disturbs me greatly, but I shall withhold my wrath due to father’s seeming acceptance of it. Be grateful, little insects."
"..."
Uhm... I mean, she had been cute when she didn’t say much before and just stayed quiet.
I mean, she is still cute now in her own way... But...
"Ahaha!" I immediately broke the heavy awkward silence by letting out a loud laugh that echoed a bit too forcefully, reaching back to pull Briar gently but firmly against my side again, "She’s just the cutest little gremlin in all of Elyndor, isn’t she? You did well with the introduction, Briar, but maybe try to be... uh, a bit nicer next time when you meet new people."
"Eh?" Her blue eyes went wide with severe shock, the pupils dilating noticeably as she stared up at me, her small mouth opening slightly in genuine surprise, "But that was about as nice as I can possibly get for weaklings who are barely suitable for food in the first place."
There’s so much innocence and honesty in those words.
"Tera, Tesa, what about Titania?" I quickly moved my hand to cover Briar’s mouth gently but effectively, muffling any further words as I turned my attention to the twins standing nearby, "She stayed surprisingly long at that meeting with the spirits, didn’t she?"
The fairies had already started to drift back toward the trees, their delicate wings vibrating rapidly as they lifted off the ground and flew away in small groups, leaving soft trails of sparkling dust in the air behind them. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
All of us began to walk back into the kingdom proper as well, our footsteps crunching lightly over the forest path that led deeper inward.
"The meeting with the spirits could easily take years to complete," Tesa answered calmly, her voice steady as she walked beside me, "so there are special magical means in place to make time run differently inside that realm during the gatherings. Trust me, she has not truly been gone for that long from our perspective."
Tera then glanced sideways at Briar with a completely emotionless face, her features smooth and unreadable.
While Briar’s own emotionless gaze fixed right back on her in return, their blue and dark eyes locking without either one blinking for several long seconds.
It was like watching a silent battle of pure expressionlessness unfold right there on the path.
"I like you, little one," Tera muttered under her breath after the staring contest stretched on, her tone flat but carrying a hint of approval.
"The only ones I like is Grey Ivy and father," Briar stated calmly, her voice muffled slightly under my hand before I lowered it, her posture remaining straight and composed, "Though you are not considered food, you must earn the necessary points for me to like you at all."
"My, are your standards set so high then?" Tera replied, one eyebrow lifting ever so slightly as she kept walking at the same even pace.
"Nothing of the sort," Briar stated plainly, her small shoulders lifting in a tiny shrug that somehow still looked dignified, "The reality that I am even giving you a chance to impress me means you already rank quite high on my list of unimportant people."
What... kind of discussion was even going on beside me? I could only imagine as we continued walking?
But by the sound of things, Briar looks down less on Tera than with the other fairies.
Does she like feel Tera is on another level, or something?
