The Strongest Dandy in the City-Chapter 156: Understanding
Chapter 156: Chapter 156: Understanding
"Fuck, you dare to assault a cop? Watch how I teach you a lesson."
Regaining his wits, Du Jin swung a punch at Ye Chenfeng’s cheek. Ye Chenfeng casually reached out with his right hand and effortlessly grabbed Du Jin’s wrist, saying, "That slap was to give you a wake-up call. As police officers, as servants of the people, have you fulfilled your responsibilities? Didn’t you want to take us back to the police station? Today, I, Ye Chenfeng, will accompany you there."
Ye Chenfeng released Du Jin’s wrist and, without paying further attention to anyone, walked straight out of the office.
Monkey, Tie Niu, and Brother Hu followed without hesitation, and after a second or two of stiffness, Li Pangzi hurried after them as well.
Feeling the tearing pain in his wrist, Du Jin watched Ye Chenfeng’s retreating figure with brooding eyes, thinking to himself, "I’ll endure it for now, but once we get to the police station, I’ll see how long you can stay so arrogant."
Since Ye Chenfeng’s phone was out of battery, he borrowed Monkey’s and dialed Zhu Maude’s number, the chief of the Southern District police station. Ye Chenfeng had a photographic memory and had remembered the number when he and Zhu Maode exchanged contact details.
In the office of the chief of the Southern District sub-bureau, Zhu Maode sat in a leather chair, resting with closed eyes. His hefty body slightly deformed the chair, and a cup of steaming green tea sat on his desk – Zhu Maode indeed knew how to enjoy life.
A moment later, Zhu Maode opened his eyes slightly, picked up the cup of tea, and took a gentle sip, sighing, "Could it be that my career can only ascend to the position of the head of a district sub-bureau? Can’t I climb a few more ranks?"
Just then, Zhu Maode’s phone began to ring. Although Zhu Maode was not a high-ranking official, he had his fair share of people seeking him out, which is why he had two phones: one for work and another for private use. The ringing came from his personal phone.
Taking out the phone and seeing an unfamiliar number on the caller ID, Zhu Maode still answered, "Hello, may I ask who you’re looking for?"
"Brother Zhu, you’ve forgotten me so soon? It’s Ye Chenfeng!" Ye Chenfeng said on the phone.
Zhu Maode paused for a second or two then enthusiastically responded, "It’s you, Brother Ye! That’s not very kind of you! Didn’t we agree to have tea together? Why haven’t you reached out to me yet?"
"Brother Zhu, you’ve misunderstood me this time. I’m on my way to the Southern District sub-bureau right now and should arrive in about twenty minutes," Ye Chenfeng said on the phone without mentioning anything that had happened here.
"Great, then I’ll wait for you at the police station, Brother Ye. Today, we must have a good drink together!" Zhu Maode chattered endlessly, and had Ye Chenfeng not hung up the phone, he probably could have gone on about all sorts of topics for half the day!
After hanging up the phone, Zhu Maode’s face was beaming with joy. Three years ago, Ye Chenfeng had been arrested and taken to the police station, and it was the municipal party secretary who had personally called to bail him out.
However, three years later, because the violent policewoman Yao Suman had arrested Ye Chenfeng again, Zhu Maode had another interaction with the young man. Someone who could get the municipal party secretary to call for their release definitely had a special status, so he had decided to cultivate a good relationship with Ye Chenfeng, which might offer him another chance to advance his career.
...
In the police car headed to the Southern District sub-bureau, Li Pangzi cautiously asked, "Boss, do you really have a way to settle the trouble today? Otherwise, should I go and beg my grandfather again?"
"Li Pangzi, cut the crap. If your grandpa was willing to listen to you, would he have slapped you just now? Didn’t he make it very clear? You are no longer his grandson. What’s the bloody use of having such a crappy grandpa?" Monkey said indignantly.
"Mr. Ye, I think Li Pangzi makes some sense. After all, this isn’t a market, and we still have to abide by laws and regulations," Brother Hu said, slightly worried.
Ye Chenfeng casually remarked, "Relax, not a single one of you will be in trouble today. Perhaps later at the police station, these cops will even have to apologize to us!"
As they spoke, the police car had already arrived at the entrance of the Southern District police station. Du Jin, sitting in the front passenger seat, got out, opened the rear door of the car, and impatiently urged, "Get the hell out of here. You’ll see what’s waiting for you in the interrogation room." Du Jin was already imagining various ways to torture Ye Chenfeng.
However, when Du Jin turned around, he was stunned to see his own chief standing at the police station’s entrance, braving the cold wind! The chief was smiling at him and striding toward him!
In his heart, Du Jin couldn’t help thinking, "Could it be that the chief has seen my good performance and wants to promote me again? It seems that today’s trip wasn’t in vain."
Du Jin extended his hand to shake hands with the chief, saying, "Chief Zhu, you’re too kind. Why are you coming out to meet me in person..."
Before Du Jin could finish his sentence, he saw that Zhu Maode didn’t even glance at him but walked straight past him to Ye Chenfeng, warmly shaking his hand and saying, "Brother Lin, I’ve finally been able to welcome you! Come, I’m treating you to dinner today, and you must not refuse."
Ye Chenfeng shrugged his shoulders and said, "I’m afraid that won’t be possible today, Chief Zhu. I was apprehended by the captain of your precinct, and I heard he’s going to interrogate me personally shortly!"
It was only then that Zhu Maode remembered that Ye Chenfeng had come off the police car and quickly turned back, his face looking unpleasant as he glared at Du Jin, asking, "What’s going on here? What law has Brother Lin broken? In my eyes, he’s always been a law-abiding good citizen! Could it be that Captain Du, you’ve made a mistake?"
Cold sweat dripped from Du Jin’s forehead—he truly hadn’t expected this brazen youngster to really know his chief? He hurriedly stammered, "Chief Zhu, I think I’ve made a mistake; how could your friend break the law!"
Tie Niu, Brother Hu, and Li Pangzi, seeing even the chief of the police station treating Ye Chenfeng with such politeness, and then noticing how the previously arrogant Captain Du Jin had wilted like a frostbitten eggplant, couldn’t help but feel immensely satisfied. Brother Hu thought to himself, "Mr. Ye really is awesome! He’s influential wherever he goes."
Monkey, knowing Ye Chenfeng’s identity, and having been arrested by the violent policewoman Yao Suman with Ye Chenfeng last time, found all the events unfolding before him to be within expectations.
"Captain Du, are you saying you made a mistake? I don’t think so. Just a moment ago, you were claiming you’d take good care of me! Why the change of heart now? That’s surely not the behavior expected of a People’s Policeman!" Ye Chenfeng said calmly.
Du Jin regretted it so much he wished he could slap himself and apologize to Ye Chenfeng, realizing just how close his chief was with Ye Chenfeng and that he had foolishly offended him. Wasn’t that tantamount to offending his own superior? Could he even keep his position as captain now?
"Brother Zhu, let’s talk inside the police station. There’s no rush for dinner today; I’ll definitely treat you to a good meal another day. What do you say?" Ye Chenfeng asked with a smile.
"Since you put it that way, brother, I won’t insist. Let’s go inside and you can tell me what happened," Zhu Maode said, after shooting Du Jin a stern glare, and walked side by side with Ye Chenfeng into the police station.
Du Jin hurriedly followed into the police station, as restless as an ant on a hot pan, wondering how to apologize to Ye Chenfeng and obtain his forgiveness.
...
The Lis took a private car to the Southern District branch, and because the police car had left about ten minutes earlier, the Lis were only halfway there now.
The Lis’ minivan could accommodate about ten people, so just one vehicle was enough to carry the entire family.
"In the interrogation room later, I will personally give that little bastard a lesson, hitting him until he hands over the recipe for Fast Beauty," Li Shouchun said angrily.
"That little bastard hits too hard; my waist still hurts!" Li Shouxia growled through clenched teeth.
"Dad, please forgive Xiao Yuan one more time! I think he was just confused for a moment," Fang Qin finally spoke up after a long silence, unable to bear seeing her son ostracized from the Lis.
The Lis’ patriarch Li Tangming still had a painful cheek, and his anger was festering. He exploded at Fang Qin, "If you dare to mention that beast in front of me again, you can roll out of the Lis with him."
Li Shouchun and Li Shouqiu’s families showed schadenfreude on their faces. Among the three brothers, they were closer to each other, and their relationship with Li Shouqiu wasn’t as good. So when they saw Li Shouqiu’s family facing misfortune, they naturally took pleasure in it. (To be continued.
