Chapter 10: Golden Golam

Leonardo wasn’t entirely upset about Emma’s choice. After all, the girl had probably started resenting him ever since he rejected her feelings.

He immediately left the village, heading east.

Once he passed the village wall, he saw a massive gate in the distance.

However, the gate was locked—wrapped in chains, completely devoid of light, a clear sign it had not yet been conquered.

He didn’t stare at it for long. Not far away, he noticed an area filled with massive piles of stone.

Interestingly, some of the rocks came alive—suddenly sprouting arms, legs, and heads, attacking any humans who passed by.

(Boss, these monsters seem to have hearts even smaller than that dog’s. They’re extremely easy to kill with my song.) Ellie said confidently.

(Oh? Really?) Leonardo was immediately interested.

After all, the Monster Boss they were about to face was also a golem. If its heart was small, it would be easier to destroy.

What made others struggle was the golem’s body—too hard to damage.

(I’m very sure.)

(Good. Then this will be easier than I thought.)

Leonardo quickened his pace toward the massive gate.

(Boss, where are we going? Why not kill these ones?) Ellie asked, confused.

(They’re not my target.) Leonardo felt a headache coming on. The owl clearly still didn’t understand.

He saw more golems ahead.

Some were guarding smaller gates.

If those were defeated, the gates would open, allowing someone to enter and claim the treasure inside.

Sometimes, if one was lucky, the reward might even instantly fill their EXP.

Around the 12th Gate, countless small gates appeared every day.

But when Leonardo finally arrived at the largest gate—situated atop a massive stone hill—he found nothing but silence.

There was no one there.

And more importantly, no Monster Boss.

More precisely, it was located in another Layer of Floor 1.

(In which Layer is the Monster Boss of the 12th Gate?) Leonardo sent a query to his Statistic Chip, which connected directly to the mysterious network of Transmission World.

(Layer 2!) the chip replied.

It possessed its own AI, capable of communication.

(Then transfer me to Layer 2!) Leonardo commanded.

Layer 2 belonged to the Tokyo Metropolitan region—a Layer populated by Awakeners from across Japan.

Leonardo was pulled by a mysterious force.

The transition lasted only an instant—like switching television channels.

"Eh."

Something startled him.

Standing directly in front of him was a woman wearing a black kimono. Her black hair was neatly tied up, and she held a katana in her left hand.

Suddenly, the woman turned around, as if sensing something appear behind her.

Her face was youthful and strikingly beautiful—distinctly Japanese, yet with a sharp nose and round eyes.

Her brows furrowed sharply when she saw nothing behind her.

On the other side, Leonardo froze. So did Ellie.

Both feared that even the slightest movement might alert her.

Fortunately, they weren’t merely invisible—they were, in a sense, nonexistent.

After a few tense seconds, the woman eventually walked away.

(Boss... she seemed to sense our arrival.) Ellie whispered.

(Maybe...)

Leonardo considered that even in Invisible Mode—an SS Class Body ability—strong instincts might still detect his presence.

When his gaze shifted toward the gate before him, he immediately dismissed the woman from his thoughts.

He saw the golem.

Its form was far more humanoid than the others—standing about 2.5 meters tall.

Unlike the regular golems, its body was gold.

(Boss Monster Level 5: S Class Monster)

A notification appeared from his chip.

His System seemed unrelated to this event and did not display anything.

Because of the Golden Golem’s presence, the entire stone hill was enclosed within a wall of light.

It prevented the Golden Golem from leaving—but it also prevented others from entering unless they were Level 2 or below.

(Ellie, can you sense the size of the Golden Golem’s heart? What do you think—will it be easy to destroy?) Leonardo asked quietly.

(Boss, this one also has a small heart compared to its body size. However, because the quality of its body is extremely high, the quality of its heart is high as well. And its level is clearly far above mine. I might be able to do it, but it would take time. I’m worried the Golem will smash me to death first. I won’t be able to sing properly in this mode.) Ellie replied.

(But what if you receive a buff that increases your power threefold?) Leonardo asked calmly.

(Boss... you’re not joking, right? I know exactly how strong your buff is.) Ellie hesitated.

If they weren’t in Invisible Mode, Leonardo would have knocked her on the head already.

(Go to the hill. Approach the Golem. The moment you receive my buff, start singing. Remember this—it’s an order.)
