Chapter 62: Walking dead.

The beast had the neck of a vulture, but it was covered in scales. Its body was short like that of a duck, but its wings were long.

It flapped its wings gently, blowing cold winds to those below. The Soulbearer on it stared directly at Vacuse. "So, you are the Dragon."

Shadowwind was tall and lanky, his eyes hawk-like and harsh beneath the light of the moon.

He jumped down and floated to the ground as easily as if he were a feather.

The jellyfish beast disappeared in a small burst of light then.

Shadowwind touched the ground and bowed. "Good to meet you, Lord Vacuse. I am here to bring you to the boss."

Vacuse raised his brows.

This was the first time he would be hearing of a polite way of kidnapping. A kidnapper assassin with manners? Unexpected.

Harkon moved slightly in front of Vacuse.

Shadowwind sighed and pointed at his beast. "I’m an Awakened Harmonic, that’s three ranks above your own. I can kill you without even moving a little finger.

But we won’t need to do that, right? We’re all gentlemen!"

Even as he said that, Vacuse realized that the air around him was growing stiff and hard, brushing against him in warning. He calculated the distance between them and he knew he could reach him if he tried fast enough.

But so what?

What comes after?

His fight with Zorathian, a brief brush, made him realize that he must reach a certain level before he could begin to punch way above his weight.

It would be stupid if he tried to fight right then.

"..Rith... is there anything I can do now..."

"...no. You can’t fight him. Brat, why are you looking for a fight when you don’t give yourself time to grow?..."

"...can’t you appear here and eat them up... you’re a Dragon!.."

"...fool... this is not my real body! I’m just a clone and you know it..."

Vacuse took a deep breath.

All his options were gone.

Fuck it.

Was he really going to give up here after all he’d gone through with coming back to life? Vacuse had no interest at all in meeting the boss that was mentioned by Shadowwind. There’s only one way that could end.

In his death.

No, he absolutely must try his best to survive.

Void energy, when used hastily and without care, would explode, and Vacuse was decent enough in energy control, even better now as he began training with the difficulty of Void.

An idea came to Vacuse, something he’d once used to escape a difficult situation.

He was going to use it again.

He smiled and turned to Harkon. "You already swore to serve me, right? To die for my will and take the sword meant for me."

Harkon nodded without hesitation. "Yes, my lord!"

Vacuse nodded solemnly. "Then let us go together. You must fulfill your service to the end. That is the true way of the New Dawn. Of a Vorrakyn!"

Vacuse then raised his hand and put it on Harkon’s shoulder.

At the same time, he pushed him forward and began to infuse his body with little bits of Void energy.

Just like the last time, Vacuse would use Harkon as a living explosion and escape. The only thing remaining was to buy time so that enough of the energy could enter Harkon.

He began to walk slowly, forcing Harkon to walk slowly as well. "If you are really an advocate of gentlemen, then you wouldn’t have crashed my party. I was really looking forward to it as well."

Shadowwind gave a tight smile. "If you’re also a gentleman, then why are you hosting a party when your... stepmother just died? That didn’t look good on you."

Vacuse was walking towards Shadowwind, a casual smile on his face. Harkon looked as if he would rather be anywhere else, but still, he didn’t do anything except for tensing up.

Vacuse’s heartbeat was steady, his blood shimmering and his muscles ready for action at a moment’s notice.

"...it won’t be long now and I’ll spring my attack... seven feet... five now... just three and I’ll...!"

But just then, a voice cut the night like a moonlight sword.

"What the fuck are you doing, Shadowwind?" The voice was filled with anger, and so, so familiar.

Vacuse froze.

There’s truly not a lot that could surprise him nowadays, but he’d been surprised twice already that night. But this new surprise was so much that Vacuse’s mind went blank.

He couldn’t comprehend it.

What exactly was happening in front of him?

He didn’t understand it. But it was happening.

What the fuck.

The fuck.

Casually striding towards him, his steps confident and so alive, was a man that Vacuse knew too well.

Captain Yemi Aelarion.

Yemi Aelarion.

Vacuse stood rooted in the ground. The person that should be dead glared at him and then turned to Shadowwind. "Well? Care to explain what’s happening?"

Shadowwind shrugged. "I’m taking him away."

Captain Yemi spat and then he threw what he was holding to the ground.

Vacuse was so engrossed with staring at Yemi that he failed to register that he was holding something. It wasn’t until he heard the dull thud that he looked down.

A head rolled a few inches from his feet, its eyes a bloody hole, but Vacuse recognized it.

Zorathian. The Watch and commander of the Dragon Guard.

Dead. Beheaded. His eyes taken.

A chill ran down Vacuse’s spine and he shuddered. He realized then that things didn’t just go horribly. It went disastrously.

Captain Yemi ignored him and focused on Shadowwind. "Taking him away? That’s not the deal that we made. You were supposed to give us his head! That’s the promise you made to us! That was why you were hired!"

Shadowwind shrugged. "Things have changed. We also realized how important he is now. The boss wants him."

Captain Yemi’s eyes narrowed. "This wasn’t the deal."

"Relax. I can promise you that you won’t have anything to worry about. Those who want him are going to kill him. That’s what you want, right? To see him dead?

Then that’s what will happen. But he must be delivered alive."
