The Spoiled Young Lady Who Married a Military Officer-Chapter 130 - 128: So I Had Already Met You
Su Tang’s face flushed slightly at Lu Xiao’s confession.
’Doesn’t that basically mean he’d give his life for me?’
Lu Xiao had just phrased it differently, making it sound incredibly romantic.
"I love you too, Lu Xiao. You’re the most important and indispensable person in my life."
A smile spread across Lu Xiao’s face when he heard Su Tang’s words.
Lu Xiao tightened his arms, holding Su Tang closer as if trying to merge her into his very being.
Moonlight spilled through the window, casting dappled shadows on the floor. The room was so quiet they could hear each other’s heartbeats.
"Tangtang."
Lu Xiao’s voice grew a little hoarse. "Actually," he said softly, "there’s something I’ve never told you."
Su Tang shifted in his embrace and looked up at him, her curiosity piqued. "What is it?"
Lu Xiao fell silent for a moment, as if gathering his thoughts, before he slowly began to speak.
"Do you remember the day you took the train to the Northwest?"
Su Tang’s heart skipped a beat. Of course she remembered. She even remembered running into a thief on the train.
"Wait a minute. The kind person who helped me catch that thief... that wasn’t you, was it?"
She was astonished, but then Lu Xiao nodded.
"I didn’t recognize you at the time."
That was perfectly normal, after all. They had never even met, so of course they wouldn’t recognize each other.
"Actually, that day, I did more than just help you catch the thief."
Lu Xiao’s gaze drifted toward the window, as if lost in memory.
"At the time, I was investigating a shipment of stolen supplies, and the clues led to that very train. The thief was actually a lookout for a gang of bandits. I had planned to follow him to find the main group, but then I happened to see him going after you."
Su Tang was stunned. She never imagined there was such a story behind their first encounter.
"And then what happened?"
"I followed him off the train. While I couldn’t take down their entire operation right away, I did uncover several useful leads that laid the groundwork for cracking this recent cargo theft case."
Lu Xiao looked down at Su Tang’s surprised expression and smiled.
"So, in a way, I should be thanking you. If I hadn’t run into you, I might not have noticed his slip-up so quickly."
Su Tang finally understood. Their story had started so much earlier than she’d thought, and it was deeply intertwined with Lu Xiao’s work.
A warmth spread through her heart. She wrapped her arms around Lu Xiao’s waist. "It sounds like we really were destined to meet."
"Yes. It was absolute destiny."
Lu Xiao leaned down and gave her a light peck on the lips.
"So no matter what Su Xinyao tries to do, she can’t change the fact that we’re together."
Their marriage was ordained by fate.
At the mention of Su Xinyao, Su Tang’s brow furrowed. "I’m just worried... she knows so many things. What if she messes up your upcoming work?"
Lu Xiao took her hand, his gaze resolute.
"Don’t worry. I’ll be extra careful. Besides, after what happened, my superiors are taking security much more seriously. They’ve even upgraded the security at the barracks. It won’t be so easy for her to try anything."
He paused before adding, "Besides, we’re not completely unprepared. At least we know she’s been reborn and that she means us harm. That gives us the upper hand."
Su Tang thought so too. It was better to prepare for whatever might come than to let her imagination run wild.
Still, after a moment of thought, Lu Xiao cautioned her.
"Try not to go out by yourself for a while. I’ll drive you to and from work."
Su Tang listened intently, taking his words to heart. "I will. You need to be careful, too. Don’t let your guard down when you’re working a case."
"Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing."
Lu Xiao ruffled her hair. "It’s getting late. You should get some rest. You’re pregnant; you can’t overexert yourself."
Su Tang nodded and lay down.
Lu Xiao turned off the light, lay down beside her, and gently pulled her into his arms.
In the darkness, Su Tang lay with her eyes open, a sense of unease still lingering in her heart.
She didn’t know what Su Xinyao would do next, or whether they would be able to get through it all safely.
The feeling that the plot was a self-correcting force filled her with dread.
But the warm embrace of the man beside her was a tangible comfort, and it helped her feel a little more at ease.
「The next morning.」
Lu Xiao left early for the barracks.
After breakfast, Su Tang got ready to head to the hospital for work.
As she was leaving, Mrs. Lu stuffed several eggs into her bag, telling her to keep her strength up for the baby.
Just as she stepped out of the main gate of the residential compound, she saw a familiar figure lingering in the distance.
It was Su Xinyao, though she had changed her appearance. Su Tang’s eyes narrowed slightly.
She steadied herself, pretended not to see Su Xinyao, and kept walking.
"Su Tang!"
Su Xinyao’s voice called out from behind her, but Su Tang didn’t stop walking.
Su Xinyao hurried to block her path.
"Do you really think Lu Xiao can protect you forever? Do you have any idea what he’s about to face?"
Su Tang’s heart clenched, but she remained calm. "I don’t know what you’re talking about. Lu Xiao is my husband. Whatever he has to face, we’ll face it together."
"Face it together?"
Su Xinyao sneered. "You think you’re capable of that? Su Tang, I suggest you be smart and leave Lu Xiao. You don’t deserve to be by his side. Only I can help him achieve greater things."
Su Tang looked at Su Xinyao’s overwhelming confidence and found it laughable.
"Su Xinyao, are you insane? Whether or not Lu Xiao loves me isn’t up to you. And what goes on between us is none of your business."
"I’m insane?"
Su Xinyao looked as if she’d just heard the funniest joke in the world.
"I’m helping you! Don’t you get it? If it weren’t for me, Lu Xiao might have been in real danger this time.
And in the future, he’s going to face even more danger. Only I know how to help him avoid it. And you? What can you do besides hold him back?"
Su Tang didn’t want to waste another breath on her and turned to leave.
"Su Tang, don’t you go!"
Su Xinyao grabbed her arm. "I’m giving you one last chance. Leave Lu Xiao, and I can tell you some things that will keep you and your child safe. Otherwise, you won’t be able to bear the consequences."
Su Tang yanked her arm free and stared at her, her eyes like ice.
"Su Xinyao, stop deluding yourself. I am never leaving Lu Xiao. Nothing you say or do will change that. If you keep harassing me, I won’t be so nice."
With that, Su Tang ignored Su Xinyao and walked away quickly.
Watching Su Tang’s retreating figure, a vicious look crossed Su Xinyao’s face. "Su Tang, you’ll regret this."
’Her time was running out. If she couldn’t make the right choice before that critical moment from her past life arrived, she would die.’
