The Spoiled Young Lady Who Married a Military Officer-Chapter 129 - 127: Above Life, Is You
When the car stopped at the hospital entrance, Lu Xiao immediately spotted the figure at the emergency room door.
Su Tang was scanning the road, one hand held protectively over her belly. The wind whipped her hair into a mess, and her face was etched with unconcealable anxiety.
Lu Xiao pushed open the car door and got out, moving as swiftly as the wind.
Chang Jia shouted for him to slow down from behind, but Lu Xiao seemed not to hear, striding purposefully toward Su Tang.
"Tangtang."
Hearing Lu Xiao’s voice, Su Tang turned her head.
When she saw that Lu Xiao was truly unharmed, save for a bit of blood seeping through the gauze wrapped around his temple, her eyes instantly turned red.
All her composure and strength crumbled in that instant. She rushed to him, her fingers tracing his cheek as she spoke, her voice thick with tears.
"You’re back. You’re back. Thank goodness... Are you okay?"
Lu Xiao held her hand and gave her a reassuring smile.
"I’m fine. I’m sorry for making you worry."
His low, gentle voice instantly soothed the worry in Su Tang’s heart.
"Chang Jia told me everything. You were the one who warned him in time."
Hearing Lu Xiao’s words, Su Tang shook her head, but tears streamed down her face against her will. "I was so scared..."
She couldn’t bear to imagine what would have happened if she hadn’t managed to contact Chang Jia in time.
Those thugs had knives and steel pipes. No matter how skilled Lu Xiao was, he couldn’t have handled so many of them, especially with a trap laid out for him.
’If everything written in the book came true, one by one, how could I ever stop it?’
These questions ran through Su Tang’s mind again and again.
While she waited for him, her mind had been in turmoil.
But thankfully, what the book described—Lu Xiao’s life hanging by a thread—had not come to pass.
"Don’t be scared. See? I’m perfectly fine."
Lu Xiao raised a hand to wipe the tears from her cheeks. "I’m sorry you had to go through that."
He had already learned from Chang Jia that Su Xinyao had come looking for trouble.
The thought of Su Tang having to face such a confrontation while pregnant sent a pang of heartache through him like a rushing tide, and a cold glint entered his eyes.
Su Tang sniffled, suppressing a sob. "I’m fine. It’s just... Su Xinyao... she’s been reborn, too. And she knows more than I do."
Lu Xiao’s expression darkened. He gently wrapped an arm around Su Tang’s shoulders, pulling her closer. "I understand. I won’t let you face these things alone again."
He paused, then added, "Su Xinyao escaped, but she won’t get far. The military base and the joint defense team have tightened security. She won’t dare show her face so easily again."
Su Tang leaned against his chest, listening to his steady, powerful heartbeat, and her frantic heart gradually began to calm.
"The men at the warehouse..."
"They’ve all confessed. They were acting under orders."
There was a cold edge to Lu Xiao’s voice. "We’ll find the person behind this soon enough."
Not wanting Su Tang to worry too much about such dark matters, he changed the subject.
"Is the baby okay?"
At the mention of the baby, a soft smile finally touched Su Tang’s lips. She shook her head. "The baby’s fine."
Just then, Chang Jia walked over. Seeing the two nestled together, he had the good sense to stand to the side without saying a word.
Lu Xiao glanced at him, then said to Su Tang, "I need to go handle something with Chang Jia. I’ll be back to be with you soon."
Su Tang nodded. "Okay. Be safe."
She knew this wasn’t over yet and couldn’t afford to distract Lu Xiao.
Lu Xiao gave her back another reassuring pat before turning to leave with Chang Jia.
Watching their retreating backs, Su Tang was filled with mixed emotions.
She knew this was only a temporary calm. As long as Su Xinyao was still out there, they would never have a day of peace.
But she believed in Lu Xiao, and she believed they could overcome any and all obstacles together.
Back in the emergency room, a young nurse quickly handed her a warm glass of milk. "Doctor Su, we’re so relieved Deputy Commander Lu is okay. That whole situation gave us quite a scare."
Su Tang took the milk and smiled at the nurse. "Thank you."
The nurse waved it off. "It’s our job. Oh, by the way, the people from the joint defense team came by again asking for details. I told them you were tired and that they should go for now. You can give your statement once you’re rested."
"Okay, sounds good."
Su Tang agreed, but her mind was already churning.
’Su Xinyao knows so much. Will it affect Lu Xiao’s work going forward?’
’I have to find a way to figure out what else Su Xinyao knows.’
’Compared to the "God’s-eye view" I have, Su Xinyao, as the reborn protagonist, clearly knows more than I do.’
When Su Tang got home from work that evening, Lu Xiao was already there.
Mrs. Lu had cooked a feast to celebrate his safe return.
After the family finished dinner, the couple returned to their room to rest.
When Lu Xiao returned from washing up, he saw Su Tang leaning against the headboard, a book in her hands.
"What are you reading?"
"*The Bird Collection*."
Su Tang replied, then closed the book.
Its dust jacket was clearly that of a medical textbook.
"Still thinking about what happened today?"
Lu Xiao could tell at a glance that she had something heavy on her mind. She always turned to books when she was worried.
Especially collections of prose poems or works of philosophy.
Su Tang took a deep breath and nodded lightly.
"I’m thinking about Su Xinyao."
After saying this, Su Tang sat up straighter and shuffled closer to Lu Xiao. "Have you noticed? It seems like Su Xinyao is interested in you."
Hearing this, Lu Xiao paused in the middle of drying his hair.
"I don’t think so. She’s never even initiated a conversation with me."
When he thought of Su Xinyao, Lu Xiao didn’t have much of an impression of her, other than how she treated Su Tang.
"I think there must be something about you that’s making Su Xinyao go to such lengths."
With that, Su Tang looked Lu Xiao up and down, studying him intently.
"Hey, what do you think? Maybe after she was reborn, she realized the original male lead wasn’t good to her, so she thought about your future and decided she wanted to latch onto you instead?"
Lu Xiao had no idea where that came from, and he shook his head with a resigned sigh.
"But none of the things you told me about before have happened."
"You and I didn’t get divorced, you didn’t die, and Su Xinyao didn’t go to Xiangjiang and meet some male protagonist."
After saying this, Lu Xiao pulled Su Tang into his arms.
He had just showered and smelled pleasantly of soap. He rested his chin on the top of Su Tang’s head and said with a smile.
"Besides, I don’t care about Su Xinyao. All I know is that my wife is Su Tang."
Even if Su Xinyao were perfect, he wouldn’t care.
"But what if Su Xinyao could help you avoid all the dangers in your future?"
Su Tang tilted her head back, her clear eyes fixed on his.
She seemed genuinely curious about his answer. Lu Xiao’s eyes were filled with tenderness and deep affection.
He leaned down, pressed a kiss to her forehead, and said slowly, "What would that matter? If that’s the fate I’m meant for, I’ll face it on my own."
"Tangtang, you are more important than my own life. No one, and nothing, could ever be more important than you."
"I love you, and that’s why I only want to be with you."
