Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Visiting the Miller Family

On July 28th, Veridian University started its summer break. After the closing ceremony, Nancy Miller invited Holly Sawyer out to hang out.

"Why don’t you come over to my house for dinner, senior?"

Nancy Miller answered a phone call, and then, a bit embarrassed, spoke up. She twisted her hand in her clothes.

She originally planned to go out with Holly to eat, but her mother suddenly called her, insisting she come home for dinner, always using a pleading tone.

Faced with her mother, Nancy Miller truly didn’t know what was best to say. The affection was genuine, but the foolishness was real too.

"Sure, I’d love to try Auntie’s cooking."

Holly blinked her eyes and agreed readily; it was quite a nice opportunity.

She had wanted to visit Nancy’s home before but couldn’t find a reason to go.

Nancy nodded and then told her mother to cook a bit more food.

"I’m really sorry, senior. We did plan to go out for dinner."

Nancy Miller spoke apologetically, feeling quite embarrassed.

A few days ago, she had already scheduled a time with Holly, not expecting her mother would call her last minute.

"It’s okay, I prefer home-cooked meals anyway; my mom has never cooked for me."

Holly laughed as she spoke, her mother being a genuine young lady, and had been pampered since childhood, never lifting a finger for chores. Even after marriage, they had a maid, never needing to do any household work herself.

So, from childhood till now, she’d never tasted a meal cooked by her own mother. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

"Actually, senior, I don’t like going home. That’s why I stay in dorms."

Nancy Miller said softly.

Yes, she didn’t like going home because she felt she wasn’t comfortable at all there.

She didn’t like her father, so if she was at home, she wouldn’t be happy.

Holly remained silent, just quietly watching Nancy.

Arriving at the Miller Family’s large villa, it was silent, as if no one was living there.

"My mom likes doing things herself, so there’re fewer help hired at home."

Nancy explained that her mom cooked the meals herself, swept the floors herself, and managed the household chores as well.

Nancy felt her mom had become a full-time housewife without the slightest entertainment activities.

Regardless, her mom was a wealthy lady now, yet still...

Nancy didn’t know how to express it, just watching her mom always so exhausted.

"That’s not bad, it fills the home with love."

Holly gently remarked.

Nancy fell silent, leading Holly inside.

Holly scanned the house; some furnishings had changed, but many things still retained their original essence.

This was once her home. Oh, it should be, it was supposed to be her home, but Miles Miller took it over through his means.

"Nancy’s back? Hurry, wash your hands and get ready for dinner."

Wendy Wright noticed Nancy had come back, quickly set her work aside, and greeted her daughter with a smile.

"This must be Nancy’s classmate; such a pretty young lady."

Upon seeing Holly, Wendy Wright praised her.

Nancy hadn’t brought classmates home from childhood till now, so when Wendy saw Holly, she was obviously quite happy.

Wendy Wright was quite beautiful, but her skin was slightly sallow, lacking luster due to poor care, appearing a bit old, but her foundational looks were clearly good.

Her attire was simple, just a plain white T-shirt and jeans, with her hair casually tied in a bun, looking quite carefree.

"Hello, Auntie."

Holly’s face showed a sweet smile as she cheerfully greeted.

"Sit, sit, sit."

Wendy Wright warmly invited Holly to sit, pouring her some water.

"Mom, you might scare my classmate being so enthusiastic."

Nancy watching her mother’s overly warm demeanor, spoke gently, feeling Wendy was just a bit too passionate.

"Then classmate, you sit for now, my dishes will be ready soon."

Wendy Wright smiled and said, then walked into the kitchen, busying herself with cooking.

"Your mom is very enthusiastic."

Holly held her cup, speaking in a cheerful tone.

Wendy Wright truly was very warm, likely a good woman but merely picked the wrong person to love.

"I’ve never had classmates or friends over; this is the first time. She must be happy."

Nancy Miller spoke softly, her voice light.

Yes, because she didn’t like making friends, she didn’t have many, usually going solo, coupled with her dislike for her home, she always stayed in dormitories.

"By the way, why isn’t your dad at home?"

Holly looked around, blinking naturally as she asked, as if it was a casual inquiry.

She hadn’t seen Miles Miller for quite a while, only researched his information before, now a bit curious about his current state.

"Oh, he’s busy, rarely stays home."

Nancy replied casually; regarding Miles Miller as a father, she wasn’t really attached emotionally.

Miles was always busy, seldom home, and her mom constantly waited and hoped for his return.

Back then, Nancy really couldn’t understand, thinking her mom was capable and not lacking admirers, why pour all her heart onto Miles?

Wendy Wright brought out the food, warmly announcing, "Come eat."

She’d made a table full of dishes, her face shining with joy, clearly quite happy.

"By the way, what’s your name, young lady?"

While serving Holly a meal, Wendy Wright asked.

Indeed, Holly was genuinely likable, Wendy found her quite endearing.

"Auntie, my name is Holly Sawyer, you can call me Holly."

Holly’s voice was sweet with delight; her eyes revealed purity.

Clearly, she was very likable.

Wendy Wright’s face was filled with smiles.

Nancy watched her mother’s smiling face and quietly grinned; she always knew her mother wished Nancy would bring classmates home but never did.

Holly’s conversation was sweet, constantly pleasing Wendy, causing her to laugh loudly, their interaction turning quite harmonious.

After dinner, Holly intended to leave, but Wendy urged her to stay, so Holly complied and stayed.

"I’ve never brought classmates home, so mom’s a bit overly enthusiastic today."

Nancy took Holly to her room, speaking softly.
