The Smiling Death-Chapter 350: Vetaal Knows Something!
After having a talk with Roland and Kael,
Scarlett and Amon left their house.
With a calm expression, Amon said, "Let’s meet later. At lunchtime. I will go and rest for today. No training."
With a small nod, Scarlett replied, "Okay."
Saying goodbye to Scarlett, Amon turned toward his house.
Once he entered, he looked around, trying to see where Vetaal was.
He found Vetaal in the living room, in his usual position. Hanging upside from the wooden log upside down.
With a teasing grin, the corpse-looking man said, "So you are finally back? I guess you did enjoy last night with her... together all night... on the same bed."
It seems like he did followed them last night. Then left them quietly.
With an annoyed click of his tongue, Amon replied, "Tch! All I did was sleep... though I did enjoy the morning."
With a knowing smirk, Vetaal said, "You were lucky."
Amon’s expression then turned serious. "That aside. What did you learn about those monsters? Also about those towers?" He asked while sitting on wooden chair.
The teasing expression on Vetaal’s face disappeared immediately. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
With a grave look, he said, "I did learn something about those monsters."
Amon leaned forward slightly, his eyes eager. "What? Really? What is it?"
With a short breath, Vetaal replied, "Hah... as I expected. Those monsters are connected to the towers. Near each tower, there are caves containing monsters, which are in deep slumber. When those towers appear for real. Not just for a few seconds or minutes but for real, without vanishing, those monsters will wake up."
He continued in a cold tone, "To protect each tower."
Amon didn’t reply immediately. Rubbing his chin, he started to think about the situation.
After a moment, he said thoughtfully, "Then... so we need to face so many monsters if we want to go out?"
With a simple nod, Vetaal answered, "Yes..."
Amon frowned slightly. "But what do we need to do with those towers? What do they have that can help us get outside the loop?"
With a steady gaze, Vetaal explained, "There are a total of four towers. They act as anchors. They form an invisible barrier around this space, maintaining it and separating this whole area from the main island. What we need to do is deactivate them."
Amon’s brows furrowed. "But why do they vanish from time to time? Also how we deactivate them."
With a calm but mysterious tone, Vetaal replied, "Well, they exist there. Even if we can’t see them or touch them, they are still there. Waiting for the perfect time to come out. For now, they are giving us hints for escaping this place."
Then he continued. "About how to deactivate them...I already have analyze all runes carves on that tower. I need to study them...I remembered them well. From it I can decipher how to deactivate them. And I believed that she had gave a hint in those runes..for me."
Amon narrowed his eyes slightly. "Alright... I get what you are trying to say, Vetaal. But why is she giving us hints? And that too suddenly at this time? This feels suspicious."
Vetaal’s face darkened. "Why is she giving us hints? Why at this time? It is all set up by the person who created those towers. This seal. To trap me here. She is the reason."
Amon went silent for a second, then spoke slowly, "So in short... the person who sealed you here also wanted you to escape this place. That’s why she is giving hints. Making this place something that can be escaped. Doesn’t that mean we are just moving according to what she wants?" This realization made him shuddered.
Vetaal went silent this time.
After a pause, he said with a faint smile, "You are sharper than I thought. Well, you are right. We are just moving according to how she wants. But..."
Amon frowned. "But what?"
Vetaal closed his white eyes, then opened them again. His tone was colder now. "Something feels different. Something is not right."
Amon’s expression turned serious. "What feels odd about this?"
With a slight shake of his head, Vetaal said, "I can’t point it out... but it seems like a few things that are happening are not going according to what she wants. Even I don’t have an idea. But yes, there is something terribly wrong with all this development."
Amon swallowed lightly. "Is this bad development?" he asked worriedly.
Vetaal shook his head slowly. "No, it’s not... at least not for us. But maybe for her."
Amon looked at him carefully. "And how do you know that? How are you saying this is different from what she planned?"
With a faint, confident smirk, Vetaal replied, with creepy chuckled, "Hehe~ Instinct, boy. Don’t underestimate me. I can feel that everything is going in a different direction than it should have been. And it might... make our escape much harder."
Amon gulped, seeing Vetaal’s cold and creepy tone. His words sent a chill down his spine.
It might make our escape much harder.
After a moment, Amon asked, "What will be our next step? When will be the next time we see the tower?"
Vetaal’s expression turned thoughtful. "That will take more time. I can’t tell the exact time. But the next appearance will take longer. In the meantime... I will try to find a way. A shortcut that can let us bring those towers out before their decided time."
Amon’s eyes widened. "You really mean it? That you can create a way to bring them out faster?"
With firm confidence, Vetaal replied, "Yes, I can. I need time for that. At the rate they are showing themselves... it might take a few years for them to come into existence completely."
Amon rubbed his temples. He did not want to stay here for years.
With a determined expression, he said, "Okay. Then try your best to find a way."
Vetaal gave a slow nod. "Yes. I will."
Amon rested his back against the chair. ’This Shit will be more troublesome. What more I have to face to get free!’
He remained silent while cursing his luck.
