The Slender Waist-Chapter 236 - 167 Yao Yao Offers a Plan
Wen Xingsu froze.
He had never imagined that Feng Yun would harbor such wild thoughts...
Hearing no reply from Wen Xingsu, Feng Yun continued:
"The General has fought countless battles, and of course, I believe he has the assurance of victory. However, the Qi Army is attacking Bingzhou with a numerical advantage, and this battle will not be easy... With Bingzhou City’s defenses being so strong, and Deng Guang holding the city gates shut, how will the General return to the city? By tomorrow, with weapons worn and soldiers exhausted, stomachs empty..."
She shook her head, her gaze piercing, "By that time, we wouldn’t even need the Qi Army to take action, nor Deng Guang to rebel and seize power, we would collapse on our own. That’s exactly the opportunity Deng Guang is waiting for. What we need to do is disrupt his steps, and kill their clever plan in its cradle."
The air was unusually quiet.
Wen Xingsu, having been in the camp for many years, had never thought that one day he would be sitting across from Feng Yun discussing tactics and strategies.
He said, "How do we disrupt, how do we kill it?"
Feng Yun’s eyes were pitch black and very spirited.
"People like General Guo Zhongyou are not uncommon in the Northern Yong army. Otherwise, so many would not have responded to my older brother’s call last night."
Wen Xingsu nodded.
Feng Yun added, "These people are the elite trained by Pei Jue. That’s why Deng Guang conceded earlier. So, what we lack now is something... convincing enough for them to believe us, to believe that Deng Guang has betrayed Pei Jue."
Wen Xingsu asked, "Do you have a good strategy?"
"Yes," Feng Yun replied, staring into her eyes, "Myself."
"You..."
Feng Yun stood up, "I can imitate the General’s handwriting."
The surprise in Wen Xingsu’s eyes was now impossible to hide, and even for someone as proper as him, an expression of discomposure appeared.
Feng Yun gave a slight smile.
She could not tell Wen Xingsu how, during those lonely, helpless, long nights, she had meticulously copied Pei Jue’s handwriting to pass the time.
It was aimless, merely out of boredom.
She had never told anyone; for each piece she wrote, she destroyed, never being discovered.
"Are you sure?" Wen Xingsu, aware of her intelligence, found it hard to believe.
How long had she known Pei Jue?
To imitate someone’s handwriting, without a long period of immersion and familiarity, would be very difficult.
"If discovered, it will backfire."
He was reminding Feng Yun to not treat this as a trivial matter.
Feng Yun smiled, returned inside the room, and brought out one of Pei Jue’s official documents. Then, rolling up her sleeves, she ground the ink and, in front of Wen Xingsu, penned a letter in Pei Jue’s hand.
"Deng Guang harbors ill intentions. Should any mishaps occur in Bingzhou after my departure, let General Wen take this letter to Gong Dao’an, Hou Kai, Guo Zhongyou, Ya Mengru, Shang Baotian, and others to take action and seize the city. Each of the above are my trusted generals, truly reliable."
Wen Xingsu took the letter for comparison, his gaze slightly shifting.
Not only was the handwriting similar.
In the letter, Feng Yun subtly described several vice generals and lieutenant generals of the Orange Crane Army as "brothers I can trust," which was exceedingly clever in its conception.
The individuals, thinking they were valued by Pei Jue, would be eager to detain Deng Guang upon command, surely expecting to be favored for their loyal service; who wouldn’t be inflamed with zeal to demonstrate their loyalty to the General?
Feng Yun had never done such a thing before, and she was somewhat excited, her eyes sparkling brightly.
"Big brother, we cannot delay."
Wen Xingsu knew that Feng Yun spoke sense.
Yet, undertaking this would greatly increase the risk, especially—who would protect Feng Yun after he left?
"Big brother does not want to put you in danger..."
Feng Yun shook her head, "Danger is also an opportunity. When the General returns and finds out that big brother has resolved the mess in Bingzhou City, he will surely regard big brother in a new light."
Wen Xingsu looked at her with furrowed brows, "Yao Yao, you needn’t do this."
What Feng Yun did or didn’t do would not change Pei Jue’s view of her. What Feng Yun wanted was for Pei Jue to look at Wen Xingsu with newfound respect.
It was also her longstanding wish, hoping that Wen Xingsu would be in complete accord with her.
"Big brother, you have a way to leave the Camp Villa, right?"
Wen Xingsu was silent.
After a long pause, he finally said, "I will advance or retreat together with Yao Yao."
Feng Yun clasped his hands firmly, squeezing them, "Good brother, I feel the same... You go and handle the important matters. I’ll be here at the Camp Villa, there’s no need for big brother to worry."
Wen Xingsu took a deep breath.
He stood up and patted Feng Yun’s shoulder heavily.
But for Feng Yun, that was far from enough...
Having lost her big brother in a previous life, she was more afraid than anyone else.
Reaching out her arms, she enveloped Wen Xingsu in a firm hug, her head resting against his chest, her eyes holding a misty light smile.
Comforting him seemed like consoling herself as well.
"It will be alright. Big brother, we will both be fine."
Wen Xingsu’s eyes reddened; he hugged her tightly, his heart swelling to the brink, his emotions utterly undone.
