The Seventh Base-Chapter 94 - 2 The Future_3
Chapter 94: Chapter 2 The Future_3
Ye Qingdie and the rest realized that life wasn’t as beautiful as they had imagined; they had simply been oppressed in the Underworld for far too long.
The sudden experience of such a comfortable life made them yearn for it.
“So I have always envied those prodigies studying at the academy. That was my dream too, to send my children there to learn. It’s just that there’ll never be a chance now,” Qin Fu said with a smile. “Seeing you guys reminds me of this.”
“Dad, we’re all grown up. What’s the point in talking about this now?” Qin Fu’s daughter downed a glass by herself and looked at Xu Mo and the others. “They’re young, filled with imagination. Your words are too defeatist.”
She too had harbored such extravagant wishes once.
But those were just fantasies from her childhood, and she too envied those people.
“Right, let’s not talk about this. Let’s drink,” a man beside them interjected.
“Drink, drink, drink, that’s all you know.” The daughter, seemingly irritated for some reason, glared at him.
The man took a swig of his drink, hanging his head low, “It’s because I’m a loser. I’ve made you suffer all these years, to the point where you’re afraid to even have kids.”
The atmosphere suddenly shifted, and the woman’s mood turned somber. She stood up and left the area.
The man chased after her.
Desert Hunters usually only end up with other Desert Hunters.
What if they had a child?
Would they carry the child along with them while hunting?
After that, Qin Fu’s two sons left as well.
Qin Fu took a sip of his drink alone, looking at Xu Mo with a bitter smile. “This is life.”
“Yeah.” Xu Mo nodded.
He felt it, the very essence of life indeed.
His gaze shifted, looking towards a distant direction.
There, a group of people was sitting outside drinking, their eyes fixed on this spot continuously.
Among them was the One-eyed Dragon they had met when they returned to the base.
Xu Mo’s gaze moved away, not paying too much attention.
The red glow of sunset faded, and night fell.
Mats were laid out outside the tented houses, and Xu Mo and his companions lay on them.
Looking up, they could see the energy shield in the sky casting a faint glow.
And there was the starry sky.
Stars spread across the heavens, their light sprinkling down, dazzlingly beautiful to behold.
Seeing such a sight, Xu Mo felt as if transported to a different era.
That must have been something from a previous life.
“It’s so beautiful, Xu Mo. What do you think our future will be like?” Ye Qingdie murmured softly, lying not far from Xu Mo, with Xiao Qi and Shadow on the right, and Elsa on Xu Mo’s other side.
Xiao Qi could only feel envious.
Xu Mo turned his head to glance at Ye Qingdie.
“What are you looking at?” Hearing movement, Ye Qingdie also turned towards him.
There was a moment of eye contact, seemingly laced with ambiguity.
“Nothing,” Xu Mo replied with a wry expression.
The usually hot-tempered Sister Butterfly was being so poetic.
It wasn’t like her at all.
Ye Qingdie glared at him fiercely, but she couldn’t beat him now.
“Don’t you ever wonder?” Ye Qingdie asked.
She had never thought about it before.
But since coming to the world above, she had started to dream about the future.
“I haven’t,” Xu Mo responded.
He really hadn’t given it much thought, though he was very much looking forward to it.
The interstellar era.
Filled with adventure.
He liked challenges but not oppression.
“Are we discussing the future now?” Xiao Qi muttered. “How many kids to have?”
“Do you want to die?”
Ye Qingdie said through clenched teeth.
Xiao Qi shrank her head.
Wasn’t it herself who asked Xu Mo about the future?
The future was just about having children.
“I want to go to a music academy,” Elsa mused as she looked at the starry sky.
It had always been her dream.
It was also what Dad had always promised her.
How wonderful would it be if she could really attend a music academy one day?
But, would a music academy accept genetically engineered humans?
At that thought, Elsa felt a touch of melancholy.
Still, it was at least possible to dream a little.
“I want to be an instructor,” Ye Qingdie said.
“??”
Xu Mo looked at Ye Qingdie, wondering what kind of strange ideal that was.
“If they don’t obey, I can beat them,” Ye Qingdie added, causing Xu Mo to give her a look of disbelief.
“I also want to pilot a warship,” Ye Qingdie said next.
“That’s a big dream,” Xu Mo said, truly fitting of Sister Butterfly.
“What about you, Xu Mo?” Elsa asked him.
“I haven’t had the chance to think that far ahead yet,” Xu Mo answered.
First, they had to find Mia and Yaoer.
The city was so vast, it seemed unnervingly difficult to find them, even more so than in the Underworld.
The group chatted casually, feeling relaxed.
This was how they should be at their age.
Sister Butterfly had missed out on her youth.
Perhaps that was her regret.
“Music academy,” Xu Mo thought to himself.
Elsa’s dream, he would try hard to help her achieve it.
At that moment, someone approached.
They didn’t look at Xu Mo and the others and went straight to the tent house, calling out, “Lao Qin.”
Qin Fu came out and frowned at the newcomer, “What is it?”
“Someone is looking for you,” the person said, then turned and walked away towards the distance.
Qin Fu followed.
The two of them stopped outside another tent house where several people, including the One-eyed Dragon, had gathered.
“What are you implying?” Qin Fu glared at the One-eyed Dragon.
Several Desert Hunters were present, and it seemed like the One-eyed Dragon had been inciting the others.
“Lao Qin, shouldn’t good stuff be shared?” the One-eyed Dragon said to Qin Fu, “What’s with those kids?”
“It’s none of your business,” Qin Fu responded, frowning.
“Lao Qin, don’t be so harsh,” another person said, “They’re neither kith nor kin; there’s no need to protect them. You know very well what we Desert Hunters do. Look at that one with the mask, always carrying that backpack, even sleeping with it by his side.”
“Those are just kids. They couldn’t possibly have anything valuable. It’s not necessary,” Qin Fu said, sensing that something was wrong.
These guys were up to no good.
“What do you mean it’s not necessary? That girl’s looks would top charts in the city, with her fair skin… and she’s not young anymore,” the One-eyed Dragon said, his eyes gleaming with greedy desire.
The Desert Hunters walked the knife-edge every day, needing to release stress. It had been a while since they had sought entertainment in the cities.

“I will consider it,” Qin Fu replied.
“What’s there to consider? If it were not for old times’ sake, we wouldn’t have bothered asking you,” another person said, “Go prepare, and don’t cause a commotion. We’ll share the spoils with you afterwards.”
Qin Fu turned and left, his brows deeply furrowed.
Those people had conceived evil thoughts, and it looked like trouble was brewing!
