Chapter 341 - 341 – Hire Me to Be Your Teacher?

Hugo Smith approached John with a wide smile, a stark contrast to the sullen-faced Lucien Ward trailing behind him.

"John, I have a proposal for you. Would you consider it?" Hugo said warmly.

"Director Smith, I'm listening," John replied.

"I want to hire you to be our teacher."

"...You want me to be a teacher?" John blinked, clearly caught off guard.

Hugo nodded. "Yes, please join us as an instructor. Our martial arts school in Houston is the premier training base for the Commercial Alliance. We recruit all kinds of talent. Right now, we have a vacancy—we need someone to train Robust Masters."

John chuckled inwardly and asked, "Didn't you people use to call Robust Masters bastard masters? Now you want to fund a course for it?"

"Hey, John, don't say that. Whether someone's a Heaven Master or a Robust Master, they each have their strengths. There's no hierarchy of value—no 'contempt chain' exists in our school," Hugo said, waving it off.

"Really? I don't buy it."

John shook his head. "I'm afraid some parents might accuse me of misleading their kids and chase me from the east gate to the west gate with machetes. I'm not looking to bring that kind of trouble on myself."

"Nonsense! Ordinary people couldn't hurt you even if they tried... Look, people might have had a bias against Robust Masters before, but the skills you showed today will change that. I believe many students—especially those who aren't power-hungry—will feel safer learning your style."

Though Hugo spoke with conviction, he was sneering in his heart. If we ever run into an SSS-level wanted criminal, we'll just send those meat-shield students to the front line. Let them take the hits.

John said thoughtfully, "I'll have to think about it."

"What's there to think about?" Lucien Ward suddenly interjected. "Mr. Smith, we shouldn't be offering that course at all. It's irresponsible. Every student dreams of being a hero, not a human shield."

"Shut up!" Hugo barked, wishing he could pour a cup of spit down Lucien's throat to shut him up.

John smiled and added, "I think Mr. Ward has a point. Who wants to be a turtle if there's a chance to be a hero?" He shot Lucien a meaningful look before turning back to Hugo.

"Nonsense!" Hugo snapped. "Everyone has their own ambitions! One person's opinion doesn't reflect the thoughts of the entire student body. Besides, you're a perfect example of a powerful Robust Master, aren't you?"

John raised his hands in mock surrender. "I was a little short-sighted before, but now I've got my own style. Too late to change paths."

Hugo insisted, "Just give it a try. What if someone else finds your path inspiring?"

To Hugo, this was a golden opportunity to train elite shields for the alliance. He wasn't going to let it slip away easily.

What if no one wants to learn it?

Updated from freewёbnoνel.com.

Simple. Anyone with a low test score either learns to be a Robust Master or gets kicked out of the school. Whether they like it or not, they'll adapt.

"Mr. Smith, you make a good point," John said. "But there's one more important issue."

"What is it?"

"You want to hire me—but has Director Alexandra Flaherty agreed?"

"...Haha." Hugo forced a smile. "I'm the vice president of the school. I have the authority to hire teachers."

"Do you?" John said with a sly grin. "Well, I'd still feel better if you called her."

"That's not necessary."

"No, it is. I don't feel secure without Director Flaherty's approval."

Hugo's smile stiffened.

What is this brat playing at? Wasn't he more agreeable before? Why's everything he says today so damn aggravating?

By insisting on Flaherty's permission, John was implying that Hugo's word didn't carry enough weight.

Of course, Hugo was pissed—but he hid it.

"Fine. Since you insist, I'll call her."

He pulled out his phone and dialed Director Flaherty's office.

Her assistant answered: "The Director isn't in right now."

So Hugo had to try her personal number.

This time, Alexandra Flaherty picked up.

After Hugo briefly explained the situation, there was a moment of silence on the other end.

Then, with a cold tone, she replied, "Tell him to go to hell."

Click.

Hugo stood frozen, phone still in hand.

John tilted his head. "So... what did Director Flaherty say?"

"Uh..."

Hugo slowly pocketed his phone, his expression complicated. "John, did you... offend Director Flaherty somehow?"

When he visited the dean's office earlier, he sensed some tension between them—but it didn't seem serious at the time.

But judging from Alexandra's reaction, something big had clearly happened.

Hugo was baffled. What had John done to make her that furious?

John sighed. "I'm also troubled by how Director Flaherty treats me. But I swear I'm innocent. I don't even know what I did to offend her."

Lucien scoffed and sneered. "If you didn't do something excessive, Director Flaherty wouldn't treat you like this."

"Bullshit!" John snapped. "I've only met her twice. How could I have done anything excessive?

I've also met Mr. Smith twice, and yet he's not holding a grudge against me. Seems to me that Mr. Smith is more reasonable than Director Flaherty. What do you say, Mr. Ward?"
