The Second Son of the Marquis Wants to Laze Around-Chapter 50: Gold Digger
Chapter 50: Gold Digger
Useless continue explaining about Raven’s background in a fast pace to its Master. It learned that if he explain about some information in short and fast, it’s Master might not skip.
[As for her character and personality, she’s more of a survivor—]
’Gold digger?’ Eren interrupted lazily.
[W-what? No, no, she’s a rogue mercenary type—someone who does whatever it takes to live and stay comfortable—]
’Like a gold digger, right?’ he cut in again.
Useless paused, clearly exasperated by it’s Master’s words.
[...Master, I think you’re misusing–I mean exaggerating that term—]
’Answer me this. Does she live for money?’ Eren asked dryly.
[Uhh... well, yes. She does. She likes money, needs it—]
’Then she is a gold digger.’
[.....]
There was a long silence in the mental space. Useless sighed in defeat.
[Yes, Master. She’s a gold digger.]
Of course, Eren’s definition wasn’t entirely accurate—but he wasn’t wrong either.
The most fitting term for Raven might’ve been... a mercenary gold digger.
A woman who fought, survived, and thrived in a cruel world...
All for the sake of coins.

Back to the present—Raven stared at Eren with a face pale from fear, her eyes wide and filled with growing dread. As he raised the blade slightly, wanting to cut her to pieces, its cold glint reflected in her eyes, panic took over her composure.
"L-look, I was just hired to attack the carriages, okay? That’s it! The rest has nothing to do with me!" she stammered, her voice trembling and uneven.
Her breathing quickened as she tried to defend herself, the tension in the air thick enough to choke on.
The young knight Leon narrowed his eyes, his brows furrowed as he stepped forward, his voice sharp.
"Then who was it that ordered you?" he asked firmly.
Raven faltered. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out for a moment. The silence dragged on, heavy and suspicious. Finally, she looked away and mumbled in a weak tone, barely audible.
"I-I don’t know."
Leon frowned even deeper, clearly not buying it. Several knights exchanged doubtful glances, and even Gareth, who was still holding the thrashing young master back with effort, looked unconvinced.
Seeing their reactions, Raven quickly tried to justify herself.
"I really don’t know, alright? I can’t tell you the full details I do know because of the contract I signed," she added hastily, forcing a shaky smile. "Unless, of course... you’re willing to pay me."
She flashed a hopeful look, still clinging to the opportunity of getting money—even now, with Eren who was still releasing a killing intent to cut her.
Everyone’s expression darkened further. Disbelief, irritation, and even disgust flashed across their faces. That she still dared to ask for money in such a dire situation left most of them speechless.
Then, a chilling voice cut through the heavy air.
"Raven White Claw..."
All eyes turned toward Eren. Though Gareth still restrained him tightly, the boy’s gaze locked onto the woman, cold and unreadable, his face completely devoid of emotion.
"Age, thirty-four. Country of origin... Nerwyn Kingdom."
Raven’s face drained of color as her real name and background echoed in the air.
"Affiliated with the Outlaw Guild. High-ranking mercenary. Eight years of field experience..."
He spoke with a deadpan calmness, as if reading from a report, causing Raven to visibly tremble.
"W-wait! Stop!" she shouted in a panic, as though her very identity being exposed was a greater threat than the blade itself.
But Eren continued without pause, his expression frozen in icy focus.
"Alias: The Phantom Fang. Known for her taming Skill—capable of controlling low and mid-tier monsters..."
The entire group went silent. Gareth, Leon, Kristoff, Hector, the other knights, and even Marie, the maid, stood frozen in place. They stared between the composed boy and the visibly shaken woman, stunned.
How in the world did the young master know about this woman, despite it was his first time meeting her?
...
"Raven White Claw... former noble, kind of. Born into House White Claw from the kingdom of Nerwyn. You know the one—family full of white-haired, prideful nobles. Except for her. Born with black hair. Accused of being an illegitimate child, a fake. Treated like an outsider, like filth—and then kicked out by her siblings at the age of twenty-four. Like a trash."
Raven’s eyes trembled.
"Spent a year on the streets looking for a job. Became an Awakener and an adventurer. Then joined the Outlaw Guild a year later. Been in the game for eight years now. Made quite a name for herself, too. Uses her monsters like tools—sends them to scout, harass, weaken. And once the target’s distracted or half-dead, that’s when she strikes. Her fighting style? Cowardly—but smart. She doesn’t risk her neck unless she knows the odds are in her favor. Basically, she’s a p*ssy cat."
"She’s got a sharp tongue and an even sharper instinct for survival. Cunning, mischievous, and always hungry for gold. She’ll smile at a client while squeezing every coin she can out of them—and if they cross her or short her pay, she won’t forget. She might not kill them, but she’ll make sure they bleed where it hurts. She doesn’t care about honor or glory. She cares about money, survival, and walking out alive. A selfish, lonely, single, money-hungry woman."
Her face flushed red with embarrassment and shame as she lowered her head.
"Although... she isn’t completely a heartless fox. Around kids, she’s like a grumpy older sister—grouchy, but soft when it counts. And she drinks. A lot. Like she’s got nothing left to lose. Hides her old pain behind laughter in taverns. One day she’ll be joking over drinks, and the next she’s coldly gutting a bandit. She’s not good, not evil—just a bad-tempered gold digger."
Raven’s eyes widened in surprise when she heard what sounded like a compliment. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long.
"And when she faces real death? She’ll run away in fear like a rat."
"So yeah. That’s her. Raven White Claw. Or just Raven. The outcast noble. The monster-tamer mercenary. The Phantom Fang. And the gold digger. Loves to drink ’til she passes out. And enjoys hugging cute kids like a pervert."
"–Ack!"
Raven felt like his words stabbed straight through her—because they were true.
"She even makes her juniors do her work and clean up her messes. Like that one time she ordered a young, innocent boy to clean her feet with—"
"Shut up! That’s not true!!"
Raven suddenly shouted, her face turning even redder from embarrassment as she cut Eren off mid-sentence.
Everyone around them stared in shock, stunned by how much detail the young master had just revealed. They didn’t understand—how could he possibly know all of this?
"Y-Young Master? How do you know all of this?" Commander Gareth asked, eyes wide as he finally released his grip on Eren.
Eren looked up at him—and at the rest of them—with half-lidded, lazy eyes and replied calmly, "Because of my blessing. I have a Skill that lets me check a person’s background from inside their mind."
Raven paled as she heard those words. Her secrets, exposed. She hadn’t expected the scary boy in front of her to possess such a terrifying ability—a Skill that could unravel a person’s past so easily. Like a walking truth-seeker, a silent judge who knew everything with just a glance.
Even Gareth and the other knights were clearly shaken by this revelation.
A Unique Skill like that could be insanely powerful. Perfect for gathering information or during investigations. It could expose spies, traitors, and criminals without fail. But then, Eren casually dropped the bomb that shattered their expectations.
"Unfortunately, I can only use it on one person per year," he said with the same stoic, lazy tone.
That made the knights visibly deflate. What sounded like a divine blessing ended up being... a very limited tool.
"I see... So your real name is Miss Raven?" Gareth turned back to the tied-up woman, narrowing his eyes. Raven gulped, a chill running down her spine.
While Gareth continued speaking to her, Kristoff leaned closer to his junior, Leon, and whispered, "Hey. What exactly is the Outlaw Guild? I’ve never heard of it."
Leon blinked, surprised for a moment. "You don’t know about the famous mercenary guild?"
Kristoff shook his head.
Leon sighed, remembering how his senior always buried himself in knighthood training and ignored anything outside the order. So he began to explain.

Mercenary guilds are kind of like adventurer guilds. Adventurers usually register to explore dungeons, hunt monsters, collect gems or crystals, or conquer dungeon quests. Basically, anything related to dungeon crawling.
As for the Mercenaries. They do similar work, but more focused on jobs outside the dungeons. They take quests from regular people for money—combat, protection, monster hunting outside of dungeons—though that part still overlaps with adventurers sometimes. They also get hired for bodyguard work, scouting, or information gathering.
They usually operate with members from the same guild, but many work solo. Their loyalty is mostly to money, not to morals—though it depends on the person. And they are all Awakners, some of them can even be a criminal or a murder.
