The Scheming Ex-Husband's Courtship-Chapter 649 - 562 It’s Time to Make a Move
Jian Si was still wondering who this elegant beauty was when suddenly the door in front of her burst open. The person inside stormed out and naturally hadn’t expected someone to be standing there. Jian Si couldn’t dodge in time and bumped into her fully.
The woman staggered back two steps, fell on her butt to the ground, and Jian Si didn’t fare any better, her back hitting the wall behind her.
"Are you blind?" The woman was already fuming, and now that she’d been bumped, her emotions became even more uncontrollable. Upon seeing Jian Si clearly, the fire inside her burned even fiercer.
Jian Si, too, recognized who this beauty was – indeed, it’s a small world.
"Apologize to me immediately." Gao Ruobing got up from the ground and clearly wasn’t planning on letting Jian Si off the hook.
Jian Si hesitated for a moment, knowing this place was a law office and that all visitors were clients. No matter who was in the wrong, saying sorry could deescalate potential issues, and she was willing to do so.
Just as Jian Si was about to speak, a stern voice came from behind Gao Ruobing: "Jian Si, come in."
Jian Si, of course, obeyed her boss’s command right away and went into the office past Gao Ruobing: "Dylan."
"What’s for lunch?" Nan Zhan sat behind the computer, the afternoon sunshine lightly enveloping him, making him appear like a golden saint.
Jian Si said, "I brought you a lunch box."
This surprised Nan Zhan a bit, causing him to look up at her. Her blouse was a bit disheveled from the recent collision, and her eyes shone nervously bright.
Was she worried he would refuse her packed lunch?
"Give it here, I’m very hungry." Nan Zhan threw down the pen he was holding and leaned back slightly.
Jian Si smiled and said "Okay," then returned to her desk to fetch the lunch box.
The two of them interacted seamlessly, completely ignoring the steely-faced Gao Ruobing.
Jian Si took out the lunch box, feeling the warmth on its surface, and her heart felt as if it was wrapped in something very comfortable.
But before she could walk over to Nan Zhan, a hand suddenly stretched out from the side, unceremoniously knocking the lunch box from her hands.
The force was great, causing the lunch box to drop to the floor, the lid flying off, and the contents spilling out.
Jian Si silently lowered her eyelids and squatted to clean up, only for Gao Ruobing to suddenly lift her foot and step towards Jian Si’s hands.
However, it barely stopped just in time—it was Nan Zhan’s leg.
With a strong push upwards, Gao Ruobing was thrown off balance by the sudden force and nearly fell again. She tried to charge again, only to be halted by a stern rebuke: "Gao Ruobing, don’t force me to be rough on a woman."
The voice was chilling and fierce, effectively freezing Gao Ruobing in her tracks; she stared at Nan Zhan, her look incredulous, obviously unable to comprehend why Nan Zhan would repeatedly side with Jian Si,
"She just bumped into me at the door, and that’s it?" Gao Ruobing raised her voice, clearly not willing to let things go.
Nan Zhan had also witnessed the collision, but clearly he did not care about the state Gao Ruobing was in; he pulled Jian Si up from the ground instead. His voice was still cold but his palm conveyed warmth, giving Jian Si a sense of security.
"Where did you get hit just now?"
Jian Si answered honestly: "My back."
Nan Zhan nodded then said to Gao Ruobing, "Ms. Gao, would you like to go to the hospital for a checkup? Shall we go together?"
Of course, Gao Ruobing did not want to get checked as she wasn’t injured at all; and with Nan Zhan clearly siding with Jian Si, she knew she stood no chance. Yet, she couldn’t swallow her pride today.
Partly because Nan Zhan had confronted her several times for Jian Si’s sake, and also because Jian Si was working in his office – their desks separated only by a semi-transparent partition in a room, just a man and a woman, it was inevitable for her thoughts to run wild,
"Forget it, I won’t hold this against her, let her just be more careful in the future." Gao Ruobing huffed and looked at Jian Si,
Upon hearing this, Jian Si immediately thought of the time Gao Ruobing introduced her to the boss, remembering his face as clear as day. Young and foolish back then, all she wanted was to quickly get paid. Now, thinking back on that chubby face and comparing it to the god-like, handsome figure of Nan Zhan in front of her, she felt a huge sense of relief.
Relieved, thankful it was him.
"Ms. Gao, if you’re done talking, you may leave."
"Nan Zhan, I am your fiancée, how could you treat me like this? Are you going to sever ties with me over this shameless woman?"
Nan Zhan paused for a moment, but soon a scornful smile appeared: "Ms. Gao, you’re overthinking. There’s no ’severing ties’ between us. To me, you’re just a stranger who came in without an appointment. If you aren’t planning to get checked at the hospital, then, I can call security to escort you out."
Gao Ruobing hadn’t expected Nan Zhan to be this ruthless, completely disregarding any relations between their families. She stared at him, her face alternating between shades of red and white, ultimately just stamping her foot angrily and storming off.
After Gao Ruobing left, Jian Si resumed cleaning up the spilled food on the floor.
What a pity.
"Did you make this especially for me?" Nan Zhan noticed the two dishes inside were his favorites.
"Yes, I’ll make it again tomorrow."
"But I want to eat it today."
Jian Si’s gaze fell on the clean shoes and neatly pressed trouser legs in front of her, and then she heard his voice overhead: "I’ll come to your place for dinner tonight."
In the afternoon, Jian Si couldn’t get into a normal work rhythm, each time she inadvertently looked up and saw Nan Zhan, she would think of his words.
Ever since they last discussed the issue of Zhengzheng’s custody, their relationship had been intensely close, and today was the first time he talked to her about something other than work, in that particularly gentle tone.
Jian Si felt a bit dazed.
After work, Jian Si took Nan Zhan’s car, and they stopped at a supermarket to buy ingredients. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Jian Si saw him looking left and right in front of the toy shelf, eventually picking out a newly launched Bumblebee, and casually asking her, "Would Zhengzheng like this?"
Of course, he would like it, because this toy is always advertised on TV, and every time he saw it, he would lift his eyelids from the book and then pretend uninterested.
"Thank you."
Nan Zhan put the toy in the shopping cart and said indifferently, "I’m buying something for my son, no need for thanks."
Jian Si was taken aback by his remark and chose to remain silent.
After buying the toy, Nan Zhan went to the seafood section to buy shrimps.
From behind, as she saw his tall figure intently fishing shrimp out of the tank, his deep facial features appeared even more handsome, and Jian Si found herself distracted once again.
If Zhengzheng really stayed with him, he would make a good dad.
"This season, shrimps are quite expensive." Jian Si couldn’t help commenting as she saw him buying a lot.
"He can finish them."
After paying, the two pushed their cart towards the exit, and since the supermarket was located inside a major shopping mall, they had to pass through a department store.
Jian Si saw the colorful crystal Rubik’s cube displayed inside a cabinet, Zhengzheng’s birthday was coming up, and she really wanted to buy him this Rubik’s cube, but it was too expensive!
Back home, Jian Si went to the kitchen to cook, it was the first time Nan Zhan had come over since she moved.
And, it seemed like it had been a long time since they had shopped together.
In the living room, Zhengzheng and Nan Zhan were competing in solving Rubik’s cubes, sitting side by side each holding a cube. Zhengzheng gave the signal to start, and the two pairs of hands began rapidly twisting.
Jian Si really wanted to know the result of the competition, so she stood at the kitchen door with her spatula in hand, watching.
The father and son had astonishingly similar movements, even their expressions when they bowed their heads in thought were identical.
For ordinary people who would struggle with a Rubik’s cube for half a day, it was just child’s play for the two of them. Jian Si barely blinked, and the cubes were solved, almost at the same speed.
"Alright, I lost this round. Let’s play another." The contest between experts was fleeting. Jian Si, the layman, couldn’t tell the nuances, but Zhengzheng had already admitted defeat, it seems Nan Zhan had won.
Jian Si scoffed, the father sure didn’t go easy, but then, Zhengzheng probably didn’t need him to slack off.
As Jian Si was engrossed, Zhengzheng suddenly raised his head, his little nose twitching, "What’s that smell?"
"Ah, my fish." Jian Si, belatedly aware, hurried back to the stove.
Nan Zhan looked up at the figure frantically saving the stewed fish, a slight smile creeping at the corners of his mouth.
"Smiling." Zhengzheng, looking down and fiddling with the Rubik’s cube, his hands moving quickly, seemed to be preparing to regain his honor.
"Really?" Nan Zhan’s face hardened again, "Unsatisfied? Let’s battle again."
"Sure, who’s afraid? If you lose to me, don’t say I bullied you because I’m a kid."
Nan Zhan laughed disdainfully, if he lost to him, he might as well call him dad.
As expected, Zhengzheng lost again, but he wasn’t discouraged at all, instead, he teased the winner, "I think you should make your move earlier, you’ve already successfully caught her attention, the next step should be planned carefully."
"Make my move? What move?" Nan Zhan looked genuinely puzzled. "On whom?"
Zhengzheng scoffed, jumped down from the sofa, and with a parting shot of "you adults are so childish," he dashed off to the kitchen.
Nan Zhan, ridiculed by his own son, looked slightly displeased, but the little guy seemed right, he seemed to have figured out something over these days.
He had become accustomed to coming home to see her, accustomed to her cooking, and even more accustomed to her silent but genuine presence beside him.
Since all these had become habits, just as Zhengzheng said, it was time to make a move.
