Chapter 87: Complex

The next few days went pleasantly for Violet. She was back to getting attention from Sylas although she boldly demanded it everytime.

Violet skipped behind Sylas. As he was done training in the early morning, Sylas stood under the bright sun, taking a large sip of the water.

"Alpha, why don’t you tell me about Luna Julia?" Violet asked.

Sylas stared at her questioningly.

"I heard about her from everyone’s mouth, but now, I never learned about her story from your mouth. I want to know how the woman you love dearly is in your eyes," Violet vocalized.

Violet wasn’t without jealously towards Julia. For her to meet Sylas first, Violet felt she was lucky. However, the next instant, their tragic fate had her heart broken.

She understood in Sylas’s eyes, her value could never measure up to Julia’s.

However, that’s fine.

She never intended to compete with Julia. Violet enjoyed how the pace went on between them, and even if it took long while for Sylas to open up to her, she was ready to wait.

She felt confident Sylas wouldn’t betray her.

"Why all of a sudden?" Sylas asked.

Violet smiled. "I suddenly became curious. Then again, it might be painful for you to recall those memories. Therefore, it’s alright if you refuse to talk."

"What do you want to know?"

That made Violet’s eyes brighten up. She grabbed on to Sylas’s wrist, pulling him over to the porch and making him sit down.

"I heard Luna Julia saved you when you’re a child. That’s how, you were childhood sweethearts. Isn’t that adorable? Both of you were meant to be," Violet expressed.

"She did." Sylas’s voice softened considerably. "That is how she was. Her heart was too big and considerate, especially for someone from Crimson Moon pack.

She enjoyed saving all kinds of creatures over hunting them. I used to make fun of her a lot. It was against her nature as a werewolf."

After that, Sylas went on to tell little stories around Julia. Violet listened with concentration.

Both the Sylas and Julia in his words were unfamiliar to her. Violet could imagine the portrait painted by Sylas’s words.

It made her understand how completely different she was from Julia.

Julia was kind, considerate, and bold. She protected her beliefs in a place where they are made fun of. Her values were strong, and she tightly held on to them.

Through her maturity and strong personality, she protected and supported Sylas. The younger Sylas was impulsive and reckless. He lost control of his emotions easily and acted fiercely, being a contrast to the composed man she knows now.

However, it was this version of Sylas that took care of Violet. Just like how Julia was a roof over his head, Sylas played the same role in her life.

It made Violet wonder whether or not she would still like Sylas if she met him earlier.

"Julia often lamented she was a werewolf," Sylas expressed, "she wished to be a human, free from all the bounds. I promised her that. That once everything is over, I will no longer be an Alpha, and we can do whatever she wants."

The man’s line of sight lowered. There was immense grief held in those silver blue eyes.

"Is that why you left the pack?" Violet asked.

Although Sylas’s voice was calm, it held a chilling edge to it.

"I wanted to destroy it. Kill the entire pack who had her sacrifice her life. But Julia knew me too well. Her last wish to me was to leave the pack alone. How cruel, isn’t it?"

Violet silently stared at Sylas. She noticed his shaking hand.

There was a complex set of emotions in his eyes— anger, regret, depression, and insanity.

Looking at the vulnerable Sylas made her heart clench.

Violet reached out to hold Sylas’s hand. As he was about to pull it back, she maintained her tight grip.

Bringing it closer to her face, she rested her face on it. She then said, "Alpha, you know I like you a lot, right?"

Those pair of grey blue eyes narrowed at her.

A soft smile graced her lips as she carried on, "That’s why, I want you to know I am willing to listen to everything you have to say, no matter how dark they are. I wish in front of me, you don’t have to wear this mask.

No matter what you want to do, I will always be by your side. And if you hesitate to do anything, I don’t mind doing it for you. Alpha, you’re the most important person to me. That’s why, please treat yourself nicely as well."

Sylas’s eyes darkened. His deep voice called, "Violet."

Violet arched her brows.

"Do you know how dangerous it is for you to say that to a man? You are asking to be taken advantage of," Sylas pointed out.

Violet softly kissed his hand and cheekily commented, "I just want you to take advantage of me."

Sylas calmly stated, "What you have on me is merely dependency. You need to carefully think about your feelings, alright? You’re still young. Therefore, it’s normal to be confused and make wrong decisions."

Violet frowned.

"You think I am confused about my feelings for you?"

Sylas moved his hand away and explained, "In your most desperate moment, I saved you. It makes sense you will be dependant on me and trust me. It’s because of this you wish to repay me.

For you, your love is the most you can offer. Because you found comfort in your current life, you wish to remain in this moment. But this is not how it works."

"What are you talking about, Alpha? I know my feelings well. I am not confused," Violet insisted.

"Violet, how much do you know me to like me?" Sylas asked.

"I know enough to like you!" Violet pouted stubbornly.

"There is no rush, Violet. I am not going anywhere. Think about everything carefully. The most important thing for you is to take care of your body and get back what you lost."

Violet understood that Sylas didn’t take her feelings seriously from the first place. No wonder he always smiled at her casually.

He thought it was a child’s desire to hold on to her saving straw.

Feeling wronged, Violet stood up in front of him. Placing her hands on her waist, she leaned closer to kiss on Sylas’s cheeks abruptly.

"Even if you don’t like me, you can’t deny my feelings for you!"
