The Rogue Alpha's Second Chance-Chapter 52: Heartache
Chapter 52: Heartache
The pair of round hazel eyes gleamed with expectation.
"There’s no need for you to come here," Sylas responded— his voice chilling.
The smile on Violet’s face froze, and she looked at him in daze.
She took a step forward and voiced out, "Alpha, do you want to take a bite and—"
Before Violet was able to continue, Sylas raised his hand, and the next instant the plate of cake flew away from her hand, smashing against the floor.
Violet’s gaze followed the trajectory of the cake. Something within her cracked, just like that plate on the floor.
She worked hard to bring a pretty slice to Sylas and now it got damaged.
Then, when Violet looked towards Sylas, she saw the annoyance in his eyes for a second before he covered it up under his usual gentle smile.
He then politely said, "Can you please clean that up? I will go into my room if there’s anything else. And from next time onwards, do not bother me about such trivial things. I tend to be busy."
Although Sylas’s tone wasn’t harsh, his words stabbed her sharp as a knife. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she didn’t blink, afraid of letting them fall.
Her heart clenched painfully.
Sylas did not bother sparing her a glance as he closed the door behind him.
Lydia was wrong. Sylas wasn’t affected by her tears.
Violet wiped away the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand.
Bending down, she began to pick up the broken shards of the plate while mentally reprimanding herself for getting ahead.
Sylas made it clear to her from the beginning how he felt irritated being approached by her, but it was her who took the liberty to believe they were close now.
Distracted Violet pierced her finger from the sharp edge of the shard. The pain brought her back to her senses, and she watched the blood droplet fall on the floor.
"It hurts," she mumbled.

After the incident with Sylas, Violet’s mood dropped, and the despondency had her roll around in her bed for rest of the day. Then, after a long day of contemplation, she pulled the blanket off of her head and sat up on the bed.
"Why are you taking everything to heart, Violet? Didn’t you already know how Alpha is? Sure, he was warming up to me, but that doesn’t mean he actually accepts me.
And even the Alpha can have a bad day. Yeah, maybe that’s what it is. He must have been upset about something else," Violet softly spoke out, educating herself.
But then, her head fell back, and she whined, "Well, if he didn’t want to have the cake, he could be nice about it. He didn’t have to smash it against the floor. I worked so hard on it." freёwebnoѵel.com
Feeling suffocated, Violet pushed open the window. The cool breeze came in, refreshing her. Hints of color were slowly spreading through the dark night sky, creating a serene image. The distant cries of various birds could be heard.
At the same time, she heard the loud pounding of a creature running against the ground. Violet noticed a dark figure flashing by and disappearing into the forest.
Before she knew it, she wore her slippers and rushed out the house. Once she stepped inside, she shuddered at the sudden drop of temperature and realized she should have brought her jacket along.
Violet rubbed her hands together while she made her way over to the dense greenery.
Dew gathered on the surface of the green leaves, glistening. A squirrel brushed past her leg before leaping and disappearing into the tall tree.
It only clicked to her how impulsively she acted when her eyes met those pure golden pair. They stared straight at her without any unwavering— so intense that it set the wolf apart from Sylas. The large werewolf stood in front of her, much like a predator.
Violet realized how wrong her decision might be. Sylas would get mad and distance himself from her if he gets to learn of this.
And she shouldn’t be that excited about him as well.
Turning her back on the werewolf, Violet was about to walk away when the the wolf leaped forward and jumped on her. A gasp left her mouth at the sudden weight on her, and her entire world spun around.
Before she was able to touch the ground, the wolf’s soft body cushioned the impact, and Violet found herself in the embrace of the giant werewolf.
Instead of being afraid, Violet strangely found herself being comfortable— as if this was how everything had been meant to be.
The wolf then nuzzled its snout against her throat, eliciting bursts of laughter from her. All the unpleasant emotions that brew within her started to disappear, and her chest started to feel lighter again.
Violet was always taken aback by how affectionate Sylas’s wolf is. Unlike Sylas who felt like a frozen dark sea, his beastly form was more vibrant with intense emotions that complemented his status as an Alpha.
Although she only had a very few meetings with the wolf Sylas, she could see it was much more artibitary, playful, and domineering, which contradicted a lot with Sylas’s main gentle yet cold personality.
The human self was governed by rationality for the most part wheras instincts overtook most of the senses when one was a werewolf. Usually, since they were a same entity, the wolf and human counterparts bore many similarities.
But for Sylas’s to be entirely opposite, it showed how the werewolf his himself under a thick mask.
And Violet understood she was nowhere near to penetrating through the mask.
She was brought out of her thoughts by a sharp pain on her neck. As her hand reached out to touch her neck, she felt the trail of saliva and realized the wolf Sylas had bitten her.
She stared at the wolf in shock.
However, the wolf’s fiery golden eyes showed disapproval towards her, as if being upset at her for being distracted and not playing with him.
"Well, Alpha, can you let go of me?" Violet questioned, twisting under the wolf’s tight hold.
The wolf growled in dissatisfaction.
Violet found it strange how the human form of Sylas was adamant on avoiding but this wolf version only stuck closer to her.
She poked on th snout of the wolf and questioned, "Do you stick to everyone you find?"
Instead of responding to her question, the wolf only continued to rub its snout into her. Violet felt warm and ticklish at same time.
However, before she could indulge in the moment between them, it was interrupted by Lucas’s loud voice.
"Alpha, there’s something— What are you doing, Alpha? Although she is a stranger, Violet has been here for a long while. You can’t attack her."
Lucas hurried forward about to rescue Violet from the wolf. Violet froze for a second. Although she found it natural interacting with Sylas like this, she understood how this might seem strange in the eyes of Lucas.
However, it seemed that Lucas had misunderstood.
Before Lucas could pull Violet away from Sylas’s embrace, a territorial growl left Sylas’s mouth, and he slapped Lucas’s hand away. He protectively covered Violet, hiding her away from Lucas’s line of sight.
That took Violet aback, and the strong scent of intoxicating grape wine entered into her senses.
Lucas’s eyes widened almost about to pop out. The werewolf form of Alpha was much more fussy and aggressive. It didn’t allow anyone to get close to him.
But the possessive gesture of the wolf while the golden eyes fiercely glared at Lucas was clear to him. A silent pressure was being put on him to back away from his property.
Lucas blinked his eyes, utterly confused.
Violet, on the other hand, pulled back her head and expressed, "I can’t breathe. Can you loosen your hold on me?"
When Violet turned to look at Lucas, she saw the horror cross through his eyes. Before she could formulate an explanation, Sylas expressed his discontentment and covered her vision again.
