The Revenge of the Reborn Supreme Sovereign-Chapter 132 - 129: Beasts, man-eating beasts!
「Red Flat Airport.」
Following Li Wenxuan’s lead, Qin Fan and Lai Zhuge disembarked from the private jet. But now, Lai Zhuge’s attitude toward Li Wenxuan had clearly changed. Even a Buddha has his limits, let alone Lai Zhuge, a man of great prestige in the Southern Geomancy World. From the moment they disembarked to when they stepped into the car, and all the way to the entrance of the SNJL area, Lai Zhuge didn’t say a single word to Li Wenxuan. The silence between the three of them created a strange and tense atmosphere.
After taking the ticket Li Wenxuan handed him, which she had purchased at the entrance to the forest area, Qin Fan licked his lips and gave a disarmingly innocent smile. He looked at Lai Zhuge and said, "Master Lai, you’re familiar with this place. You lead the way!"
"Alright! The shortcut we took last time was quite secluded. Although several years have passed, I’m confident we can still avoid all the surveillance cameras," Lai Zhuge said, nodding grimly.
He scanned their surroundings, then began to lead Qin Fan and Li Wenxuan forward. Several dozen minutes later, the trio had passed through the sparsely populated tourist area and now stood before a stretch of untamed forest. Further on, mountain peaks overlapped one another, emitting wisps of white smoke. However, their path was blocked by a seemingly endless electric fence. Signs bearing the words "No Trespassing" in both Chinese and English were posted all along it. In the distance, several rangers were patrolling nonstop.
"Lai Shenxiang, why are we taking this path? I didn’t come in this way last time!" Li Wenxuan stopped and asked, her brow furrowed in confusion.
"To save time!" Lai Zhuge snapped, then vaulted forward. Stepping lightly on the wire itself, the soles of his old Beijing cloth shoes carried him swiftly over the fence.
"Can we make it across?" Qin Fan turned and asked the ten-billion-dollar heiress beside him.
"No!" Li Wenxuan said, shaking her head gravely.
Just as the word left her lips, Qin Fan grabbed her arm, leaped into the air, and crossed over in a single stride. Li Wenxuan’s vision blurred as a WHOOSH sounded in her ears. The next thing she knew, she was inside the fenced-off area. Li Wenxuan was stunned by this display. She finally understood why Lai Zhuge held him in such high regard. With a feat like that, this young man with the title of ’Master’ is also a Dark Energy expert? 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Don’t just stand there. Let’s go," Qin Fan said lightly, already walking ahead.
Just then, the rangers patrolling the wild forest noticed the disturbance. They immediately began to shout, "Stop! This area is off-limits! You can’t come in here! Go back, now!"
Faced with the rangers’ anxious shouts, Lai Zhuge paid them no mind. He rushed forward, a talisman dropping from his sleeve. He deftly caught it and threw it forward, rapidly chanting, "By the authority of this edict, transform!" As he spoke, the talisman suddenly ignited. In the blink of an eye, it turned to ash, releasing a pungent gas that dissolved into the air.
Upon inhaling the fumes, the patrolling rangers felt their minds grow fuzzy. Their eyes went wide and vacant. Paying no more attention to Qin Fan’s group, they began to wander in circles.
"Master Qin, we need to hurry! We have to be out of these rangers’ line of sight within three minutes!" Lai Zhuge urged.
Qin Fan nodded, grabbing the dazed Li Wenxuan and bolting forward with incredible speed.
Seeing Qin Fan’s speed, which was almost like flying, for the first time, Lai Zhuge was momentarily stunned. He quickly regained his senses, however, realizing this was no time for contemplation. He pushed off, his feet like gushing springs, and sprinted to keep up with Qin Fan.
When the three minutes were up, the trio had already appeared at the foot of the mountains shrouded in white smoke.
"What just happened?" Li Wenxuan asked in shock, shaking her delicate body as if waking from a dream.
"You don’t need to know," Lai Zhuge said, then looked at Qin Fan. "Master Qin, the Primordial Forest is just past these mountains!"
"Let’s go," Qin Fan nodded.
Just as he made to lead the way, Li Wenxuan spoke up. Sensing a chilling aura emanating from the mountains, she said timidly, "But—! It’s starting to get dark! Maybe we should wait until tomorrow!"
"We don’t have that much time to waste on you! Either follow us or wait here. Pick one," Qin Fan stated, his expression impassive.
"I—!" Li Wenxuan bit her lip, a stubborn glint in her eyes. "Fine, I’ll follow!"
With his back to her, Qin Fan gave a slight nod. "You follow behind Master Lai. I’ll cover the rear."
"Alright! I’ll lead the way, then!" Lai Zhuge said before nimbly starting up the mountain, stepping on the stone outcrops with practiced ease.
Because they had to accommodate Li Wenxuan, it took them over an hour to cross the Seven Layers Mountain. Throughout that hour, however, Li Wenxuan broke out in a cold sweat again and again. In the darkness, she could clearly sense ominous rustling sounds and the glint of green eyes that would occasionally appear. She had thought something terrible was bound to happen during their trek. But to her utter surprise, neither the rustling sounds nor the glowing green eyes ever came within a stone’s throw of them. They would flash for an instant and then vanish, as if they were afraid of something.
After crossing the Seven Layers Mountain and setting foot on flat ground again, Li Wenxuan’s heart, which had been lodged in her throat, finally dropped back into place. She dared to ask the questions she had been too terrified to voice earlier, "What were those green-glowing eyes and rustling sounds just now?"
"Beasts. Man-eating beasts, but they’re ultimately insignificant creatures," Lai Zhuge replied gravely. As he spoke, he was reeling with shock.
I’m shocked that the beasts didn’t dare to make a move! The last time I took this path years ago, it took quite an effort to clear them out. But this time, I could feel fear in their auras. What could possibly make them afraid? It couldn’t be me, and it certainly wasn’t Li Wenxuan. The only explanation is Qin Fan!
In that moment, his curiosity about Qin Fan surged wildly once more.
Grandmaster of the Transformation Realm, Dragon-Slaying Heavenly Master, Divine Physiognomist of Geomancy, Master of Magic Artifacts... All of these identities were already unbelievable. But now he can also make these mindless, perpetually starving beasts feel fear? Why? Could it be that the aura on his body made them shrink back? That seems too far-fetched. These are beasts that wouldn’t even fear firearms and would charge forward to their deaths. But what other explanation could there be?
Lai Zhuge couldn’t figure it out, but he didn’t dare ask any more questions. Having lived as long as he had, he was wise enough to know which matters he should pry into and which he should not.
"Enough chit-chat. The Primordial Forest is right ahead, let’s go. Master Lai, you keep an eye on this dead weight. Don’t let her die here before I get my ten billion," Qin Fan said in a nonchalant, almost flippant tone. He surveyed the entrance to the forest and began to spread his Divine Sense into it.
