The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases-Chapter 542 - 333: One Million Godchosen
Thirty years had passed since the Platinum Dragon God departed with the evil Tiamat to the heavens. At the very moment the dragon priests of Dragon Island began their unified chant once more, news of David's return started to spread. David, who had once again gathered the strength of the Nine-Faced Dragon God and single-handedly stopped the descent of The Slaying King Star, was back. This news disseminated via the dragons' Magic Messaging, passing from one to another, through dragon society and even across various planes in the Multiverse, spreading faster than even the reports of the apocalyptic threat caused by the Tide of Madness.
Moreover, misinformation spread by idiots like the White Dragons, and by blabbermouths like the Brass and Copper Dragons who took forever to get to the point, created an utterly bizarre and absurd situation:
Some dragons from remote areas, or even other planes, were still gossiping. They wondered how the return of the "new Nine-Faced Dragon God," David Uthos, would impact dragon society and possibly the ecosystem. Some even contemplated heading to the plane of Elariya immediately to seek his favor, only belatedly realizing...
Damn, Elariya is facing an Elf calamity, and it might even escalate to a doomsday scenario...
What's even the point in continuing this?!
Those slow-on-the-uptake dragons, with their typical unflappability, were much like their ancestors from another timeline thirty thousand years ago.
So, before the seedling of Despair could even take form in their minds, the dragons uniformly beat their tails against the ground:
Hey! Don't we have a new Nine-Faced Dragon God now?
Let's hug his legs in haste and say a quick prayer:
"Oh Supreme Nine-Faced Dragon God David Uthos!"
"Your devout believer offers a silver coin as a sacrifice."
"May our God protect us from harm."
"Grant us your blessing, O God!"
Since this great Dragon God had come back from the dead, maybe he could also protect them, ensuring they safely traversed the Styx River and reincarnated as dragons?
Once the divine connection was established, it was much like the private messages for a top influencer suddenly exploding with 999+ notifications. Especially seeing the downpour of silver coins via the Pillar of Faith, David could hardly roll his eyes any harder.
He never imagined that he would, in his lifetime, experience what it was like to be a Dragon God dealing with these stingy misers.
For crying out loud, their lives were on the line, and they only offered a single silver coin as a sacrifice?!
And some of that silver was even adulterated with lead!
But only a dragon truly understood the plight of other dragons.
These Dragon Whelps were willing to sacrifice that single silver coin primarily due to David's new status as the Nine-Faced Dragon God, compounded by their own precarious situations.
Back when Bahamut and Tiamat were in power, these scoundrels dared to fob them off with mere copper coins.
Don't ask what use money is if a dragon is dead.
That's a human notion.
Dragons, upon foreseeing their impending deaths, would go to any length to take their treasure with them—even though most methods had proven futile.
At the very least, they had to take it to a place where nobody else could find it.
In response, David simply set up an AI-like automatic unified reply mode:
"Follow the trail of my wings and journey to the land of the Elves, Ferodiel, to join the battle."
Upon hearing this divine oracle, a 'summons for cannon fodder,' the spirits of these unreliable dragon believers sagged, and their heads instantly started shaking like rattle drums.
Sheesh, that's where the apocalypse is starting! We'd rather skulk around a little longer than die on the battlefield.
But how could David not understand the little schemes brewing in the minds of his dragon followers? He immediately added:
"All who heed the call will be instantly elevated to Godchosen."
"Godchosen?!!" Upon hearing this divine decree, the dragons were stopped dead in their tracks, their eyes losing some of their usual sharpness.
This was about becoming Godchosen!
The kind that, in critical moments, could be directly possessed by a deity to save their lives!
Not like those dime-a-dozen God's Favored Ones who had plenty of duties but few rights.
The only issue was...
Was this Godchosen thing for real?
Godchosen were rare primarily due to 'compatibility' issues between gods and their chosen. Consequently, many potential Godchosen had to undergo numerous divine trials before they could even roughly take on the form of the god they worshipped.
But then it struck them—this was the legendary Nine-Faced Dragon God!
So, regardless of one's faction, personality, or form, couldn't this Dragon Lord adapt to the follower's own form and possess them?
Descend and take control himself?
As a result, even many neutral Gem Dragons began to feel a stir of interest.
Soon, the dragon flock noticed something unique about this divine decree.
All who answer the call shall be immediately promoted to Godchosen.
Immediately!?
After all, it costs nothing, so why not believe just this once?
Soon, a dragon, without hesitation, opened the pillars of its faith, responding to David's conscription order for cannon fodder.
The next moment...
A god descended upon the world.
At the same time, the dragon believers upon whom David had descended 'saw' their bodies move on their own, as if they were deities. They stretched forth their claws and seemed to effortlessly tear open a portal between two planes, arriving at...
The forefront of this divine war—Elariya.
But just as these Godchosen arrived above the already frenzied ruins of Dewensen, they were stunned to discover...
This plane had already gathered at least millions of dragons of all kinds from countless planes of the Multiverse. At a glance, the sky was completely obscured.
Yes, not merely tens or hundreds—the count was in the millions.
The scene was somewhat like someone who had wandered alone through the wilderness for half a lifetime finally arriving at a human city, only to suddenly realize that the bustling, teeming streets were... all frickin' Pandas!!!
Since when did we have so many dragons?
What happened to being a rare, endangered species?
However, their sense of superiority as 'Godchosen' soon led them to look down 'arrogantly' at the cannon fodder before them.
Little did they know, every single one of them thought the same.
The gathering of dragons had been turned by David into a draconic version of a million King Arthurs.
This scene also deeply shocked the Dragon Gods waiting beside David for the arrival of other 'Davids.'
The 'me' that David spoke of waiting for seemed to be a bit more numerous than they had imagined.
David, with his head held high, surveyed them and announced,
"Wait no more, brothers and sisters. I will..."
"Lead the charge."
"We shall meet at the dawn after annihilation."
The Dragon Gods strongly approved of David's 'slogan':
"Till the dawn."
Since their emergence, the great dragons had witnessed countless darknesses; the Dragonfall War had nearly wiped out nine out of ten of them.
Yet, time and again, they had ushered in a new dawn for dragonkind.
And now, the dragon believers summoned by David Uthos alone already numbered in the millions.
Dragons would, once again, greet their own dawn.
Even if this time, standing in their way was...
That AO.
The next moment, a million dragons soared into the sky.
Towards the Elf Divine Realm of Afando, which resembled a gaping Abyss in the sky...
Towards the ultimate Ferodiel deep within Afando... they surged upstream.
Soon, Svetlana, the Green Dragon second-in-command, and Octavia, the Red Dragon third-in-command, upon whom David had also descended, merged into this million-dragon army from afar.
「In the far north of Saeolus City.」
A Dragon Egg, carefully protected deep within a silver castle, suddenly began to shake, as if intending to launch itself into the sky.
Then, a muffled voice came from within the shell:
"Damn! This brat hasn't even hatched yet!"
Wrath
Hmm, as expected of my offspring.
Arrogance
Forget it, no need to bother with a new vessel for now.
The Dragon Egg grew quiet once again.
Continuing to slumber.
