The Red Dragon Just Wants To Do As It Pleases-Chapter 533 - 324: Missing My Little Sister
In a deep lair within the Mountain Dragon Royal Court.
David was suddenly jolted awake by the grand 'death' in another parallel universe.
Wait, what exactly did I see in the heartlands of Ferodiel in that world?
It was so shocking that even he felt a profound, gut-wrenching sense of futility, and a sliver... of despair, making him want to give up then and there.
This feeling, how should I put it, was like pondering an urgent, unsolved problem before sleep and receiving inspiration in a dream. Just when it seemed within grasp, he woke up remembering only that he'd had such a dream, but the most crucial part—the solving process and the answer—was frustratingly irretrievable!
This damnable feeling immediately made David clasp his claws around his head and let out a roar of [Wrath], before rolling around on the ground.
This instantly attracted a squad of Claw of Justice Metal Dragon guards, who rushed into the lair to protect him.
"Prince Ximor! What's wrong?" a leading adult female Silver Dragon guard asked with concern.
"Sorry, just a nightmare. I didn't mean to disturb your work," David instinctively reverted to the humble and gentle demeanor of a Metal Dragon prince, honed by twenty-five years of etiquette training.
The adult female Silver Dragon guard immediately sighed in relief. "That's a comfort. With the current instability, Your Highness must take great care of your own safety."
But then, remembering the prince's experience of escaping alone from the Evil Scale Fortress, right through its myriad armies, five years ago, she felt her concern was somewhat presumptuous.
Just as she was about to say more, David, who had overheard, pressed on, "Instability? Are we at war with someone?"
He instinctively thought of the Dragonfall War.
However, in this world-line's historical progression, after his dealings with the Chromatic Dragon Queen, Tiamat should have exercised some restraint in that regard.
The Silver Dragon guard answered respectfully, "Giants."
"Giants?" David was somewhat taken aback. Aren't they a defeated enemy, already driven off the stage of history by the dragons?
"Yes. Last month, the remnant Giants dwelling in the Supreme Glacier region launched a large-scale attack on a nearby White Dragon Clan. This resulted in at least a hundred White Dragon deaths, including many hatchlings."
"For this reason, the Chromatic Dragon Queen is incandescent with rage. It's said that the Chromatic Dragons have already amassed a large army on the borders, preparing to eradicate the Giants entrenched in the Supreme Glacier in one fell swoop."
"Regarding this incident, the Mountain Dragon Court is also in an uproar. More than one petition has been made to King Landis in the Royal Court councils to join this war of annihilation against the Giants."
After hearing this war report, David fell into deep contemplation.
The reason was that, in the history of dragons, no such war existed.
After the War of Eternity, once dragons drove the Giants from the fertile lands and off the stage of power, they immediately plunged into civil war.
And because he had interfered with the course of history, he was now somewhat unsure if this was a ripple effect caused by him, a small interplanar butterfly.
Yet, it still captured David's utmost attention.
Never mind that the Metal Dragons were still wrangling in the Royal Court council; ultimately, as the Chromatic Dragon armies marched on the Supreme Glacier, the Metal Dragons would inevitably follow suit.
The reason was simple, much like discussions of terrain advantage are unavoidable in human history and military strategy, dragons had similar strategic doctrines.
The Mana Tides rolled in with the north winds from the Supreme Glacier. Theoretically, this meant attacking from north to south offered certain advantages, whether for the power of a dragon's charge riding the wind or for the utilization of Mana Energy.
However, the Northland's Supreme Glacier was too bitterly cold; even Silver Dragons, who were cold-affiliated, were loath to go there. Only White Dragons, generally of low intelligence and posing little threat, resided there.
An adult White Dragon, on its own, might barely pass for a true dragon, but their collective deterrent force was less than that of a pack of Snowfield Worms fighting over territory and mating rights...
In the past, their wars with the Giants had always been over territory, so both sides had a tacit understanding not to make the Supreme Glacier the core of their disputes.
But once the Chromatic Dragons initiated this, whether to vent their fury and seek revenge against the Giants or for some other reason, the Metal Dragons would inevitably follow.
If conflict were to accidentally erupt between the two sides at the Supreme Glacier then...
Hiss, could this be some kind of trickery by the Elves? David instinctively jumped to a conspiracy theory based on who stood to benefit.
After all, under his siege strategy, the Elves' plan to raise The Slaying King Star during the Dragonfall War was directly stillborn.
And now, this presented their best opportunity to turn the tables.
Yet, this was merely his own deduction as a transmigrator, without a shred of evidence.
That alone wouldn't be enough to dissuade the enraged Chromatic Dragon Queen.
If the Giants weren't slaughtered, the dragons' fury wouldn't be appeased.
If he couldn't hold Tiamat back, the Metal Dragons would inevitably get involved.
It was a dead end, plain and simple...
Seeing Prince Ximor lost in thought, the female Silver Dragon guard's eyes filled with anticipation, fully believing that with his strategic acumen and magnanimity, coupled with the position of Decurion of the Claw of Justice conferred upon him by King Landis five years prior, Prince Ximor would surely seize this chance to distinguish himself at the Supreme Glacier.
She had already resolved that if Prince Ximor possessed this determination, she would be the first to follow his lead.
After waiting for a long while, David, who had previously straightened up, slumped down again, curled up his body, and narrowed his eyes.
From the looks of it, he seemed to intend to go back to sleep...
"..." The Silver Dragon guard felt in that moment that all her ardent expectations had been in vain.
David suddenly seemed to remember something. He opened one eye to look at the Silver Dragon guard, who was awkwardly hesitating between staying and leaving, and instructed, "You can go first. Even if we really are to advance on the Supreme Glacier together, the Dragon Court will still have to wrangle... erm, discuss it for a long time. When the time comes, remember to wake me."
"Yes, Your Highness!" The Silver Dragon guard immediately brightened.
It seemed she might still have her chance.
As for David... he truly intended to quickly get some more sleep before his mind fully cleared.
After all, sleep seemed to be the most important thing right now; no, it was more important to 'link to the myriad worlds' through dreams.
Having successfully made numerous connections, David clearly recognized that only by enlightening more versions of himself could he achieve the greatest benefits right now.
This connection wasn't quite like those in the science fiction of his previous life, where each version of himself in every plane was an independent individual, and there might even be temporal paradoxes.
Having experienced it personally, he felt it was more like... every version of himself, in every world, was still himself...
This feeling became increasingly apparent when connected with multiple selves simultaneously.
His consciousness was like a cell floating in the 'primordial soup'; the more they connected and collaborated, the more advanced his 'evolution' became.
On a higher dimension, they were, in truth, a single whole.
Yet, frustratingly, they couldn't perceive each other's existence in real-time, much less aggregate.
This was the sole obstacle to his current plans.
It seemed... to involve some issue of mutual attraction between microscopic entities...
If this wasn't a matter of metaphysics...
Then, would you believe it, this damn thing turned out to be a math problem?!
Upon realizing this, David was shocked, yet also felt a profound sense of the absurd.
This problem... I can't solve it!!!
Then another thought arose:
If only Tania were here...
He... missed his little sister...
