Chapter 486: Chapter 289: I’m Set on Becoming the Brother-in-Law!

"Mother! You’ve come!"

At the main gate of Montero Ore Town, Black Dragon Viola, along with her elder brother Alfonse and their Black Beast brother, respectfully bowed their heads to welcome the arrival of Felicia, the Lady of the Duoze Domain.

More than thirty years had passed since the three dragon siblings left the nest to follow David. Throughout these years, while aware of each other’s existence, they had maintained an unspoken agreement not to make contact. This was the truest reflection of blood ties among Chromatic Dragons. The five-year period had passed. After leaving the nest, without benefits, there was no contact.

A mother dragon fulfilled her reproductive duties to the Chromatic Dragon Queen, and the young dragons who left the nest had no moral obligation to honor and repay their mothers, unlike human children. If gratitude was due, it was more appropriate to thank Tiamat, the Chromatic Dragon Queen who had decreed this order. Chromatic Dragons are generally indifferent and selfish by nature. If not for the Chromatic Dragon Queen’s almost coercive decree mandating procreation and nurturing, a large portion of them would likely have faced extinction, especially since the decline of civilization following the Dragonfall War.

In this regard, Felicia, willing to raise her children until they were young dragons and still keep them in her nest, was already a rare example of a good mother among Chromatic Dragons.

Even so, Felicia had made a verbal agreement with David: fifty years of a ’nurturing agreement’ for a young dragon in exchange for twenty pounds of Gold. This fifty-year nurturing agreement was still in effect. Although Alfonse and his siblings had shown promising earning ability and future potential, they remained, in name, David’s ’foster children’ and vassals. This would continue until they settled the one thousand pounds of Gold in nurturing fees.

If they interacted too eagerly during this period, Felicia worried it might arouse David’s suspicion. Even though, for David, it actually didn’t matter at all, a taboo was still a taboo. Some taboos could be fatal to the relationships among Chromatic Dragons. In some ways, Felicia was also considering the future of her children.

This time, she probably would not have risked an ambush by the High Elves to make the trip. However, her daughter Viola had extended the invitation in the name of their Lord David, and it concerned legendary arcane magic related to shielding from Dragon Madness.

Yet, seeing her children, the Black Dragon siblings, already grown to her chest height, Felicia couldn’t help but feel an inexplicable surge of emotion. But given the circumstances, the Black Dragon mother suppressed her warmth. With an air of official business, she said to the siblings, "I’ve summoned everyone I can. As time passes and news spreads, most of the Chromatic Dragon lords in Skanis should receive it. But, as I’ve said before, these Chromatic Dragons can only be utilized temporarily. If you’re truly thinking of uniting them to fight the Elves, you’d be better off hibernating a little earlier and dreaming up whatever comedies and epics you like."

As a dragon who had experienced the War of the Five Armies on the Old Continent two hundred years prior, Felicia knew all too well what these individuals were like. If these creatures, who only knew to fight back when their own nests were heavily struck, could coordinate in battle, the Elves wouldn’t be an issue today.

"I will convey this to David Uthos. Thank you, Mother, for your arduous efforts and support during this time," Viola said with sincere gratitude. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

In compliance with David’s command, she had frequently traversed the now perilous Skanis in recent times. Yet she was just a young Black Dragon, not even in her prime, and her words carried little weight. When word spread that Montero Ore Town in the Kutaro Desert would publicly reveal ’anti-Dragon Madness arcane magic’—legendary arcane magic, no less—wasn’t this preposterous? Most dragon lords were initially incredulous. It was either a plot for their wealth or their lives. It was like those university girls on nearby Blue Star, the ones nearing graduation and internships, who boldly go door-to-door peddling health products claiming to offer a 100% prevention rate for incurable diseases like Alzheimer’s. And you could try it for free at the exhibition?! Do you think I’m an easily harvested leek, or do I just look gullible? Go find those White Dragons nesting in the polar regions; those brainless fools are the ones who need it.

As time passed and the effects of the Dragon Madness—and the arcane magic’s ability to counter it—were confirmed, dragons would inevitably flock in, bringing their fortunes with them. But by then, for David, it would have lost its strategic significance. This left Viola, the Black Dragon sister, in a bind. After repeatedly being rejected at various Dragon Nests—once even nearly getting beaten up by a Red Dragon—she had no choice but to target her first ’client’: her own mother, Felicia, who had been forced to relocate just a few years prior. With this legendary Black Dragon of Skanis fame endorsing the claim, some Dragon Lords were finally persuaded. At least, they were willing to risk coming for a look. That’s what led to today’s bustling scene in Montero Ore Town.

But just as Viola finally breathed a sigh of relief, her mission completed, and was about to happily report her success to her Dragon Lord, her mother’s voice rang out from behind, "Viola, how are things progressing with David Uthos? I heard from that woman, Flameclaw Figaroa, that her daughter Lizrite, and even the daughters of old Green Dragon Serubelia’s two children, are almost at their young dragon stage. You really need to hurry."

Viola had never expected her mother to be concerned about this. Hearing it now, she felt her head spin. Her tail shot straight up as she whirled around and let out a low, aggrieved, and furious roar, "Mother! Have you forgotten your daughter only just turned forty-eight this year? I haven’t even reached my juvenile stage yet!"

Felicia, however, seemed unconcerned and twitched her tail. "But how is it I’ve heard that old dragon Patrice’s granddaughter Silvia hasn’t reached her juvenile stage either, yet she’s already David Uthos’s spouse in name? And that Silver Dragon princess from Dragon Island, Alicia, I hear she’s also quite close to him..."

It would have been better if these topics hadn’t come up. But hearing about these female dragons who had appeared in recent years, and then recalling her own regrettable retreat back then, Viola grew so enraged she felt like her head would explode. She retorted without thinking, "If that David Uthos is so great, why don’t you go have a litter with him! And what those other female dragons do is none of Viola’s business!"

Who would have thought the mature female dragon would merely flick her serpentine tongue, squint her eyes, and say, "I wouldn’t mind, you know. But there’s no opportunity, not with his Dragon God mother keeping such a close eye on things."

"...You! You’re shameless!" Viola, suddenly pressured about marriage and procreation, finally stormed off in a huff, tail tucked between her legs.

The Black Dragon mother remained, lamenting to herself, "Ah, we’re Chromatic Dragons. Why bother learning anything if we’re just going to pick up the Metal Dragons’ sense of shame? I haven’t seen that Silver Dragon princess being particularly shy about her actions."

"Mom, just relax," Alfonse interjected. "Viola actually quite fancies the idea; she’s just not grown up yet. Besides, with David Uthos, that lecher among dragons, that demon of depravity, I refuse to believe he won’t go after someone so close. That title, brother-in-law to Katjana’s Second Great Calamity—I, Alfonse, am destined to claim it!"

By that time, even Mother Kraidian would surely see him, Alfonse, in a new light!

That idiot Mofei, what does he have to compete with me?

Yet, no sooner had the Black Dragon finished speaking than he noticed his mother’s expression turn somewhat playful and gentle. She raised her head and called out to someone behind him, "Your Highness, David Uthos, I have come at your invitation."

"I appreciate your presence, Lady Felicia, and your recent efforts," a voice replied.

Then, Alfonse felt a strong, searing tail coil around his neck.

"And Alfonse, my dear ’brother-in-law,’" David Uthos’s voice purred, "you seem quite idle at the moment."

Alfonse felt every scale on his body stand on end. Turning his head, his posture involuntarily slumped, and he forced a sycophantic smile, stammering, "F-F-Foster Father! You’ve arrived."

Not far off, Viola, who hadn’t managed to get far, was so infuriated by her spineless, disappointing brother that tears welled up. Too afraid to even glance at David, she turned and fled.
