Chapter 483: Chapter 287: Female Companions Bring Doom to the Dragon

Reality often proved to be much harsher than imagination.

Just three days later, with eyes now significantly more hollow and deep-set, Dragon Dad Attilicia emerged from his seclusion with ’results’ and presented a less than optimistic argument to David,

"No, three years is absolutely impossible, let alone the likelihood that we don’t even have three years."

"Huh? Even a ’blood boost’ won’t work?" David’s face was a picture of disbelief.

Attilicia glared at David and took two steps back, somewhat frightened. He vividly remembered the sensation of his veins nearly bursting as they filled with Magic Power, and he had no desire to experience it again.

Seeing David reluctantly give up, Attilicia continued,

"It won’t do. This isn’t about whether a spell can be deconstructed or not. The issue is that even if we manage to create it in the limited time we have, very few dragons could learn and skillfully use it."

Fearful that David might still be unconvinced, he quickly brought up another scientific genius,

"This isn’t some wild guess. It’s the conclusion your mother drew from statistical data on the inheritances of all dragon generations. Even if we downgrade the spell to an eighth-tier arcanum, fewer than one in a thousand adult dragons could learn it in such a short time.

"Yes, it’s basically impossible for a dragon without Arcane Craving to master an eighth-tier spell from scratch! Even if we downgraded it to a sixth-tier, the data’s curve only then begins to show a reverse trend. However, we simply don’t have enough time. So, we probably need to change our approach."

Seeing that even his mother Pafila had been brought into the discussion, David knew he had to stop pushing Dragon Dad too hard. By the end of the conversation, he seemed to have guessed another potential solution,

"A Magic Circle?"

"What do you mean, Magic Circle? This is called a Dragon Nest Guardian! A Legendary Dragon Nest Guardian!" With a touch of proud coyness, Attilicia lifted his neck and, coiling his tail, handed a design blueprint to David.

David skeptically unfolded it. A metallic rod, shaped like a giant dragon clutching a pillar, appeared before him. It was surrounded by a wealth of detailed schematics and required specifications.

The blueprint before him was incredibly complex, yet it possessed a mathematical, orderly beauty—characteristic of advanced engineering—that even David, hailing from Blue Star, had to marvel at. Filled with admiration, he looked at Dragon Dad with newfound respect,

"This is amazing! Did you come up with this?"

Attilicia, whose pride had been so apparent just a moment ago, suddenly looked uncomfortable. He turned his head away awkwardly and replied,

"...Your mother led the design... but I... I also made an indelible contribution."

"Oh..." David looked at Dragon Dad with an expression that conveyed more than words could.

Damn it! Others are, at most, socialites living off their partners. My old man? He’s a freaking ’academic freeloader’! Even this cutting-edge design, which is bound to hit top journals and grab a Nobel prize, allowed him to nab a co-author spot simply by getting his hands dirty. No one can match that!

But he also understood that this wasn’t something that could be accomplished in just a day or two. It was most likely that while his father was engrossed in this research, Pafila had also been dedicating a portion of her attention and energy to developing the design alongside him.

This meant Pafila was fully capable of attaining divinity through another path, yet she had directly ’passed’ it to Attilicia, who had started later.

This is true love!

Of course, the arduous work of researching electromagnetic forces had indeed been shouldered by Dragon Dad, who had toiled on the front lines for many years to lay a solid foundation.

However, David’s insufferably smug look made Dragon Dad’s scales bristle as he flared up in a mix of annoyance and embarrassment,

"Hmph! Believe it or not!" Embarrassed, he looked for an excuse to leave.

David quickly offered him an out,

"Hey! Don’t go, you’ve only told me half of the plan. This thing is a Legendary Dragon Nest Guardian! Surely you don’t intend to install them all over the planes yourself?"

Attilicia would die from overwork before completing such an epic engineering task.

Dragon Dad, hearing this, seized the opportunity but still seemed slightly embarrassed, "How could that be!? These things can be disassembled. Alchemy Apprentices proficient in ’Pattern Drawing’ could manage to construct it by following the blueprints. The real challenge, however, is finding Spellcasters to prime and charge the Thunder Dragon Rod, which serves as the guardian’s core."

David paused, then a realization dawned on him. "Hmm? So you mean it’s essentially a standardized assembly line operation."

Indeed, finding Mages capable of casting lightning-based evocation spells would be difficult.

But if Mages are scarce, are Dragons any less so?

David immediately thought of a batch of potential ’skilled labor’—his family’s Blue Dragon neighbors.

Blue Dragons naturally had the habit of excavating and decorating their Dragon Nests. They would use their Thunder Dragon Breath to melt sand into a crystalline state and then build their own Dragon Nest Guardians upon it.

Of course, this was a skill mostly mastered by adolescent dragons.

But looking at it from another angle, any Blue Dragon capable of independently establishing its own nest during its youth was essentially an eighth-level master welder with exceptional skills.

If he were to pass up on this opportunity, wouldn’t that be courting a lightning strike from the heavens!?

Greed.

Tsk, I should’ve made that old geezer Patrice stay behind earlier.

Just as David was contemplating this, he and his father suddenly received a report from Neisser the Arcanist,

"Teacher Attilicia, Prince David Euthyphro, there’s a group of Blue Dragons from the Olivalyres clan requesting an audience outside."

Could it be that Patrice, the old Blue Dragon who had retreated after recognizing the difficulties, had returned?
