Chapter 265: Chapter 265: Precious Tree Species (2)_1

Xia Yujie and Liu Yuxiang, left alone clutching the small porcelain bottle, looked at the now-closed elevator doors with eyes full of gratitude. They knew what the elixir Situ Xin had given them meant; it was the security for their futures. In the path they treaded, they lived dangerously, potentially luxuriating in the comfort of their beds one second and struggling on the brink of death in the next.

Carrying the items collected by Xia Yujie and Liu Yuxiang, Situ Xin headed home, satisfied. She wore a smile on her face all the way, a smile that was not merely polite or distant, but one that came from within. This made the driver, who was familiar with Situ Xin, wonder what good fortune had befallen the household’s princess, making her so joyous.

Situ Xin was happy, simply because she thought of having more fruits to eat in the future. She didn’t have to be a little rabbit anymore, always eating vegetables and not getting to taste any meat.

And Baibai, upon hearing the good news from Situ Xin, was even happier than her, currently tumbling and rolling around joyously in the space. Baibai was a tiger, and though a Divine Beast by nature, it still had carnivorous instincts. But since awakening, Baibai had only tasted meat once, and the meat outside was just not up to Baibai’s standard. Since then, Baibai had preferred to become a vegetarian rather than eat meat again.

This time, however, it had finally seen hope, feeling like the meat was beckoning to it.

Situ Xin entered her home in high spirits.

"Oh, perfect timing, Baby has just come back," Old Madam Situ, holding a phone, hurriedly waved Situ Xin over as she walked in. "Baby, it just so happens that Brother Muli is calling and looking for you, and you’ve just arrived. Come, take the phone."

Compared to Old Madam Situ’s cheerful invitation for Situ Xin to answer the phone, Old Master Situ was visibly disgruntled. He thought, ’What is this Xiao family boy up to, always calling for his treasure the moment he gets on the phone? Even an old fool like him could see through the ploy.’

"Brother Muli’s phone call?" Situ Xin asked in confusion. Hadn’t Xiao Muli gone with her brother Jin and the others for military training? Why would he call her separately?

Situ Xin took the phone from Old Madam Situ and held it to her ear, saying into the receiver, "Brother Muli?"

On the other end of the line, Xiao Muli’s face, which had been stretched taut, softened instantly upon hearing Situ Xin’s sweet and soft voice. When he heard her say "Brother Muli," Xiao Muli felt that all his efforts and sacrifices were worth it. His once gloomy mood lifted immediately, filled with fighting spirit. "Xiao Xin, it’s me."

"Brother Muli, didn’t you go with my brother and the others to the military? Why are you calling me now? Has something happened?" Because when Xiao Muli decided to go to the Xiao Family to compete for the position of Family Head, all that Situ Xin could think about was how to sneak off with Old Deng to Xiangjiang, and when Xiao Muli returned to the Xiao Family with Elder Master Xiao, Situ Xin had already left for Xiangjiang with Old Deng.

After returning from Xiangjiang, and with the incident involving Loo Jianxin having occurred, everyone at home had been too busy to mention the matter to Situ Xin. So, up to now, she assumed that Xiao Muli was still with Situ Jin and the others at the military base.

"Nothing serious, I didn’t go with Jin and the others to the military, I’ve returned to the Xiao Family Old Mansion." Xiao Muli couldn’t help feeling a bit disappointed when he realized that Situ Xin didn’t even know where he had gone.

"You went back to the Xiao Family Old Mansion? How come no one mentioned it to me? Did Grandpa Xiao return with you?" Initially, Situ Xin wanted to ask Xiao Muli why he suddenly went back to the Xiao Family Old Mansion, knowing that Xiao Muli’s family hadn’t been there in more than a decade. Aside from occasional contacts during festivals, Elder Master Xiao hardly interacted with the Xiao Family. But Situ Xin wasn’t nosy, so even though she wanted to know, she didn’t voice her thoughts.

"Yes, my grandfather came back with me. There are some things I’ll tell you when I return," Xiao Muli didn’t want to keep any secrets from Situ Xin because he felt that she was not one to appreciate being kept in the dark.

"Okay, well, when will you be back, Brother Muli? Can you make it before the semester begins?" Situ Xin asked.

"I should be able to make it back before the semester starts," Xiao Muli refrained from saying that if it was not soon enough, he would make sure it became soon enough. Truth be told, he was already missing Situ Xin dearly after these days without her.

Originally, according to Elder Master Xiao’s plan, there were professional teachers in the Xiao Family Old Mansion, so Xiao Muli didn’t need to return, and could just complete his education there. And that was the case with Xiao Li, who didn’t go to school and just took lessons at home.

However, this proposal was rejected by Xiao Muli. He decided to accept the role of Family Head of the Xiao Family for Situ Xin’s sake. If it weren’t for her, he would not have taken on such a burden. If he finished his education in the Xiao Family, he would be unable to see Situ Xin for an extended period.

This was not something he could bear. Moreover, he knew of Situ Xin’s exceptional talents and, because of her youth and their protection, others dared not act against her. He feared that if he wasn’t constantly by her side, he might return one day to find Situ Xin snatched away by someone else, which would only leave him with regrets. That was not something he wished to see.

The two then chatted idly about their recent activities and such.

Xiao Muli showed no intention of ending the call, but Old Master Situ couldn’t bear to watch anymore. He moved over, snatched the phone from Situ Xin’s hand, and roared into the receiver, "You rascal, are you done yet? You know calls cost money, don’t you? Whatever you have to say, just tell my baby when you get back." After that, Old Master Situ abruptly hung up the phone with a "clack."

Upon hearing her grandfather’s words, Situ Xin felt the urge to facepalm. Technically, their family’s phone calls didn’t cost anything; it was Xiao Muli who would have been charged. And besides, her family hardly lacked the money for a phone call.
