The Psychopathic Beast Emperor-Chapter 92: First Mission
"Our mission is to investigate a recent attack on a beastkin town by the name Farronhold, located in the Geroth Plains."
Apollonia said to the four people in front of her. They were Bahamut, Sel, Exildra, and Rakia. Ren, as usual, was on Bahamut’s head.
"We will be leaving the Citadel in thirty minutes. It would take at least three days to reach the place, so it’s best you prepare. For the new disciples, since you are new, I will explain this to you once and for all.
We don’t use sect stuff like the sect uniforms for a mission. You will be given normal clothes to use for the mission. The only thing from the sect you can send along is the crest, in case of any emergency. Since missions can take a longer completion time than quests, the sect will provide a means of transport, if necessary, and supplies.
There are three kinds of missions. Every mission has the risk of death, but they are classified into three categories. The first one, which is the Red Mission, has a 30% chance of death, or lower sometimes.
The second one, Violet Mission, has from 50% to 70% chance of death. The last one, Black Mission, has an almost "No Survival" rate, and only Core Disciples or those named by the sect can take those missions. Black missions can last up to three years and sometimes beyond, making them very dangerous.
Also, once a mission commences, there’s no turning back, unless you are done with the mission."
"Understood," Bahamut answered, though his mind was somewhere else.
’Damn... They are so big!’
Sel just nodded, while Exildra answered in a meek voice, like she had a sore throat.
"Then we have thirty minutes to prepare. Take your mission attire from the counter before leaving." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
...
Bahamut stared at his reflection in the barrel of water, and finally understood why everyone averted their gazes when they looked him in the eye. His eyes were scary, predatory, and weird.
The eyes were red, split by a vertical, bestial slit... but that alone wasn’t what made them terrifying.
At the center of each eye sat the main pupil, long and narrow like a predator’s, dark gold and razor-sharp in focus. Around it, suspended with the red iris, were other pupils. Four for each eye. They were smaller, and they circled the central slit in an orbit, as if the eye could look in every direction at once. Each of them gleamed with the same dark golden hue as the main pupil, giving the unsettling impression that people felt.
"No wonder. It’s definitely scary," Bahamut muttered, splashing some water on his face to clean it, and went inside his residence to change for the mission.
Their mission was a Violet mission, meaning that it would be a long one, and there was a high possibility of death. Not like he was worried, since he could just revive. Though he wondered if there were certain requirements to his revival, because any time it happened, he turned almost berserk.
Only time would tell. For now, he had a mission, and he was anticipating it.
...
"We are going to be teleported to a region close to the town. We cannot delay on the road, and there’s been a confirmation of a survivor. So we must go there fast," Apollonia briefed them as they made their way towards a restricted area of the Citadel. It was the only part of the place painted in blue. "We will be coming back through our own methods, so be prepared."
Soon, they got to the place where they met a tall man with black cat ears, a cat tail, and dark skin, wearing a blue skirt with golden designs.
The moment he saw them, he nodded at Apollonia, took a small scroll from her, and read it. His eyes narrowed as he scrutinized the mission members, especially Bahamut, Sel, and Exildra.
"Is that pet also going?" he asked in a deep voice, staring at Bahamut.
"Yes. He’s my pet," Bahamut answered in a flat voice, while Ren ignored the man entirely, playing with Bahamut’s hair.
Bahamut wore his blindfold at the moment, and his hair fell to his waist in messy waves. His ears were also slightly sharpened, but unless one looked closer, they wouldn’t notice it.
"Is it a domesticated pet or a tamed pet?"
"He’s a Tier 2 beast pet."
"Is this a joke?"
"Do I seem to be joking?"
"I dare you to repeat that."
"Do I seem to be joking?"
Silence!
Everyone was shocked at what was happening. Apollonia made to quell the tension, only for them to feel a predatory aura. It seemed to be coming from Bahamut, but everyone saw Ren standing atop Bahamut’s head with his red eyes glowing, as well as the marks on his body. His fangs were bared at the man, causing him to take two steps back.
This was truly a Tier 2 beast and a very powerful one, too. Even the others, except Exildra, were shocked.
Who would have thought that the cute bunny whom everyone wanted to pet was a Tier 2 beast?
The man other hand, just tapped some inscriptions on the door and moved out of the way.
Bahamut and the rest streamed in.
In front of them was a swirling portal glowing with a deep silver light, with lines of purple in it.
"The coordinates have already been set. You may go," the cat man said.
Apollonia nodded and entered first, followed by the rest of them.
...
Bahamut felt himself being stretched while, at the same time, he seemed to be falling deep into something. The sensation lasted for about thirty seconds, but it felt like ages for him.
He suddenly felt the ground beneath, prompting him to look below. He noticed that he was standing on the ground. He was no longer falling. Beside him stood the rest, watching him with narrowed eyes, as if expecting him to do something.
"Err... Is something on my face?" Bahamut asked with a confused expression.
"Have you teleported before?" Rakia, who hadn’t spoken ever since, asked.
"No. First time," Bahamut answered, looking at Sel for clarification.
"Strange... Let’s move. There’s a town nearby where we can rest for today," Apollonia said with narrowed eyes at Bahamut. She turned to lead the way, her skirt swaying in the gentle breeze of where they’d landed.
It was an open field with a cleared pathway that led to a town. From where they had landed, they could see the town up ahead, about two kilometers away.
With that, they walked towards the town.
Their mission had officially started, and Bahamut was anticipating what would happen.
