The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 389: A little upset - III
"Where is he?"
Merilyn stood up to come closer to me, and placed her hands over my shoulders before rubbing my skin gently. "Think about it. The king at the moment is holding an audience with his ministers. It’s no time for you to talk—"
"I will decide that, Marilyn. Because it feels to me that a lot has not been told to me on the night Tristan asked for my permission to have me marked. I should have been told more and if not, then at least I should be getting something for my pain because I cannot even speak without feeling the bite on my neck."
Feeling the burn of tears come into my eyes, I closed them and just turned around. I knew where the audience was going to be hosted. It was going to be in the office of the King, where there was a larger area for everyone to be seated.
Bert was already behind me, just as I left my room. If he had heard everything, he chose not to say anything and just followed me behind.
Before I knew it, I was already in front of the doors. The soldier standing on guard glanced at me before looking at Bert and chose to do nothing about it. Something, bert must have told him to do.
Throwing the doors opened, I stepped inside before slowly coming to a stop when I found Tristan right in front of me, sitting on a chair that felt like a throne in the room.
Tristan’s eyes told me nothing. There was no disappointment, disapproval or even embarrassment in them.
Instead, he straightened up, tilting his chin slightly in the air while he continued to look back at me.
"Leave."
My legs stayed rooted to the floor. I was not going to move.
Vaughn was the first to stand up. He was also the one to move out of the room first. When he came in front of me, just a few steps away, he bowed his head before moving out of the room.
Everyone, if not together, stood up and followed the same thing the first minister had done. They all bowed in the same spot that Vaughn had done the same in.
When all of them were gone, the door closed behind and my body was on the verge of falling on the ground. Seemingly enough, my body had only managed to come up with this much courage.
"Genevieve," Tristan stood up as his eyes turned playfull, "what a lovely surprise."
That was enough to remind me of why I was here.
Taking a step forward, I walk to Tristan. "Surprise? I came across a wonderful surprise when I was told that I cannot be given pain medicine because according to you a lot, I should bear with this pain as it is an honor, gratitude and devotion towards you. Needless to mention, most of the people that go through this are vampires or at least are told of what would happen after they are given ghe mark. I am neither, I was told neither. Why am I," I come to a stop in front of him, "going through this pain that is unbearable?" 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Before he could say something, I added, "and who gave you my responsibility?"
That got his attention, but not in a positive way.
"Why would I not have your responsibility when You are my beloved for life and beyond?"
I chuckled. "Because you are not good at it. If anyone else had my responsibility, I would be given any and every kind of treatment for any discomfort I have. Is it not enough that I keep my wound open for you, for the world to see because you and now I must bear the pain?"
Tristan’s face had showed me how upset he was at the responsibility comment, but now he had glossed over everything and schooled his expressions back to neutral.
"Genevive," He raised his hand to touch me, but I took a step back.
He sighed. "At the moment, you are going through some changes, which is why you are all over the place. Yes, I do apologize for the lack of explanation and knowledge provided to you. This, all of this should have been explained to you, but it was not. This is entirely my folder. No one else is to blame. But if you would give me a moment to explain—"
"You had your chance and you lost it." I hissed, letting my anger flow through. "You should have taken your time and explained everything to me before you came to me. You could have told anyone else in the entire Palace or someone in your family to come and tell me everything they knew. You did not, and now you do not get the chance to do it again."
"Genevive—"
I took another step back. "Your highness, I request you with everything I have to send something that may help me ease the pain up to my room."
Not giving him a chance to say anything, I turned around and left the room. There was no one that could stop me before I reached my room and I took advantage of that. Only when I was inside with only Irene in the room with me, I flung myself over the sofa, not caring for my injury anymore. It was already painful.
"Your grace," Irene whispered softly, "I have the herbs for the pain and for you to have aid in sleeping it off."
I opened my eyes after God knew how long. She extended the small glass towards me and without a word, I took it and swallowed every drop of the bitter concoction.
It was wretched but with some of my anger still alive, I drank it out of stubbornness.
Then she gave me a few left gottlebery. A good, long sniff of them later I found myself on my bed drifting off to sleep with my shoulder, finally feeling numb.
