The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 384: The real idol - II
"Now, I won’t but what about earlier?" I asked her. "Why let me suffer before?"
If she had expected me to ask that question, she did not show.
I received a smile which was the list of what I thought I would get from her.
Chiara lightly touched my elbow and we parted away from Merelyn and her mother-in-law.
"I want you to understand one thing, Genevive, and that is about the fact that you cannot care for everyone. You will want to, humanity or empathy, you will always want to help the other person, especially when you are at a position to do so. But it would not mean that you waste your resources when you have greater things to fight for."
"Before you say it," she cut me off, just as I opened my mouth, "you would never have been a waste. But this is something I am teaching you as a lesson. No matter what, you must make a calculation because it is either you and your people or everyone else, and the latter will always forget what you have done for them."
She smiled ruefully. "The latter would always tell you that they did not make you choose them. That it was you, and there is no greater feeling than regret, which is more than enough to bury you alive."
I observed her carefully. "You must have gone through a lot in life and learn that lesson."
"I have, I have to admit that." She looked at her hands. "There are two things that you can count on receiving after becoming a vampire, one is that your skin stays the same, and the other is the experience you get with the age."
She giggled slightly. "At least the two positives that I can tell you. Do not worry, I will tell you. Everything I know and with time I will not make the same mistake that I did."
Really? "Are you not afraid that if I receive all that you have to offer from your years of experience I might use them against you?"
Chiara turned to me in an instant before a smile cracked on her face. The smile then changed into a laugh.
"What?" Her laughter slowly died down. "Why do I feel like someone had to do something with this kind of thinking? Did it have to do anything with Anastasia?"
Now I may have imagined that Tristan had met her, or maybe even his uncle Dominique, but I had never thought of Chiara meeting Anastasia.
"You have met her?"
She hummed. "Yes, I met her once upon a time when she was beautiful, but just as cunning. I understand where you’re coming from and this is something that she would do."
So this was not just my singing. Anastacia was actually a person who was self-Centered. No matter how many times I asked you a question, she never answered me directly. Whatever knowledge she had about something, she would never reveal all of it. She would just tell the tip what she knew well very conveniently withholding all of the information.
"No," she answered me, " and let me tell you why. Loyalty and trust are the two things that are built on the way. They might take a day, they might take a year. I want you to feel those towards me and my people, which is why I will trust you with what I have and be loyal to you so that I can expect that from you. If I do not trust you enough then you will never be able to do that to me."
Yes. I glanced at her and then we turned around to walk back.
Chiara could not have been more right when she said this. Trust and loyalty were a long process that took time with everyone. It might take someone a day and someone an year in her words and that was true.
Anastasia would not have my loyalty or my trust. If it came to anyone, I helped dear to my heart. I would not have chosen her, but with what Ciara said and what her feelings were, they gave me the hope that I was close enough to her to be chosen.
Loyalty and trust, she was willing to go on that road with me. She did not expect them, but was the father ready to take on that walk with me.
Camille’s smile only stretched further when she saw us coming closer to them. "Would you like to eat something now? You must be hungry after this exercise."
"I think I will have my meal with Catherine. Where is she?" I asked all three of them, but looked at Merelyn in particular.
She gave me a reassuring look. "She is in my wing. I do not want her to see you in that condition and she only knows that you are sick and since she is very weak, but I didn’t want her anywhere near you. I can send for her but she might be sleeping at the moment."
I would rather not wake her up. "No, only sent for her if she’s awake. If she is sleeping, let her."
It had taken me the strictness of Anna to shift from staying awake in the night and sleeping during the day. It will take a lot more for Katherine, especially when she was weak and needed all the rest and food she could get.
Thankfully, my friend had made sure that my sister did not need to be in the same room as I was, staring at my bloody neck and wondering what kind of animal had got his hands on me. That would have ruined what she thought of Tristan.
"Alright then." Marilyn looked at Camille before she turned her head in the middle of it, and looked at Chiara. Her eyes wide and slowly before returning to normal.
What?
Marilyn cleared her throat and got my attention. "His highness is here."
