The Princess's Dangerous Vampire Mate-Chapter 337: The change in events - II
~Royal palace of melenmore~
"That.." I gasped, "oh dear god."
"Your highness?" The man, Solomon, came back to stand next to the light. "Is there something you doubt in the letter?"
"Yes," I turned to him, of the north. "What of him? Is he truly not receptive to the people not invited by him to his kingdom?"
Solomon’s polite expression turned grave. "Unfortunately, not. Unless the king considers you to be an ally or a friend, you have to be invited into the land of the north."
Oh, dear god.
Half of my army must be on the land of the north by now. If not, they must be somewhere near, and they were marching to their deaths!
"Dear god!" I gasped, holding my head of what I had done. There had to be someone who had truly changed the letters because the one Geneveive sent me stated for me to send my army up north. And this one was in complete contrast to the previous one!
"What is it?"
"I.." I had to tell someone. "The previous letter stated for me to send my army up north. I have and I just told them to March to their deaths!"
Solomon frowned. "so that concludes that the queen’s doubts were true. Someone has been changing the letters of exchange in private." He gave me a look. "Do not worry about the soldiers. I will ask my king to send a messenger and stop them and also inform the king of the North about them."
Skepticism came to my mind about his words. His promise of sparing my soldiers and informing the king of the north to not kill anyone. Why would he be kind enough to do that? If anything, if half of my soldiers were dead, he was the one who would win this war very easily.
"Why? Do you not wish to take this exam? If my Soldiers die, my army is vulnerable, for what is left feet, that would be easier to you. Do not try to fool me."
"I am not doing anything of sort." Soloman shook his head. "I am doing what my king would ask me to do on behalf of your sister. We are here to extend a helping hand for your claim to the throne of this country. If you wish to accept it, as or your sister’s wishes, we will help you without any protest, however, if you are to deny, then you’re on your own."
"My sister," I gulped, "how is she? She stated that she is to marry your... Vampire King?"
"She is quite well." He answered my question. "And at the moment, she eagerly waits for your reply."
"You took—stole the crown and my sister. How am I—" my words halted when he reached over to pull something out of the bag I did not notice he was carrying. I knew it was a weapon.
He pulled out a sparkling brooch, something I remember my sister had. It had been given to her as an heirloom from my mother.
"She sent this." He raised it towards me, but made no attempt to give it to me. "I am to show it to you and then bring it back to her."
That piece of jewelry was something that belonged to my mother and she had received it from hers. It was something my mother never parted herself away from even for a day. She always bore it and I knew that my sister would not give it to just anyone.
So it was sent by my sister.
"Your king wants to help me. Why? There has to be a reason. Apart from helping me out, my sister is concern."
No man in the world, a man of God, or a creature of night, that would go to the lengths of a war for a woman who came from a different kingdoms.
This man must be no different. He might be infatuated with my sister, who was only a guest in his kingdom, but to go to the length of fighting war in her country for her family was something I would not believe to be true.
Solomon smiled, a meaning, hidden behind it, that I could not decipher. " As my king would say, we are here to stay, and we should make the neighbors allies rather than keeping them as enemies. So where we are, signaling our alliance to you and king of the north by fighting a war on your behalf."
"I have no war coming." Internal, yes. But not anyone from the outside so I did not need his help.
"No," he tsked, "you make a mistake here. A war can be equally dangerous, whether it is internal or external. You need protection and you need guidance. You have neither and the kingdom is in shambles. Given the condition it was left in by the previous King. Please, write a letter and give us your answer."
My eyes moved to the cold milk left to me by a maid. It’s something to drink and—
"The milk is poisoned. Do not drink it."
"What?"
He pointed to the cup of the milk that I had been staring at. "It is poisoned with acid. It will burn down your throat and leave you to die in quite a gruesome way. Pour it in the plant. If you do not trust me."
I did not trust him, but I did not want to die either. So, as his suggestion, I moved to pick up the cup and poured it down the plant ong to watch it sizzle and burn.
So, not only did I have enemies in the court, room and council, I also had enemies in the staff of the palace. I could not even eat with a surety that I would love to see another second.
"Your sister has given the power to you to decide what happens to this kingdom, you should exercise it." Solomon spoke one last time before he stepped back into the darkness again leaving me to my shorts and the letters sent to me by my sister.
