Chapter 56: Chapter 56 Leaving the safe zone

It was already going to be dark when they were about to leave the safe zone.

Many survivors started forming groups to leave the base. Almost everyone had cars, and those who didn’t could just pick one, as there were many abandoned cars. The only problem was gasoline, which they had to solve themselves too. The military could not provide everything for them.

Sylas had his own car, and the military also gave him twenty liters of gasoline, so he was not that worried for the moment. But he couldn’t help but think about the gas station at the Bluebird district. The underground fuel tank was almost full of gasoline.

If he could obtain that, he would not have to worry about gasoline for some time.

"We are leaving in five minutes!"

"All the survivors, I repeat, we are leaving in five minutes."

One of the soldiers announced, holding a megaphone while standing on top of the military truck.

Everyone hurried towards their respective cars.

Just when Sylas placed his hand on the car’s door handle, he felt a very faint trembling of the earth.

’Not good!’

’They are coming.’

Sylas thought, and his face turned serious. He quickly looked back and saw Shuan, who was heading towards the military car, immediately halt his steps.

Shuan’s face also turned serious, and he immediately shouted at Major Kyle, who was overlooking the whole thing.

"Major, they are coming. We have to hurry," Shuan said in an urgent tone.

"Are you certain? You felt it?" Major Kyle asked hurriedly.

"Yes, I am absolutely certain. I can feel the same trembling of the earth. Although it’s very faint, I can feel it," Shuan replied in a grave tone.

Major Kyle’s expression turned serious, and he shouted at everyone.

"Hurry!"

"We are leaving right now."

Serena hurried towards the military car, holding Dudu along with the female nurses.

Dylan was with them too. Everyone hurriedly got inside the cars.

After making sure everyone had left the safe zone, Major Kyle immediately got inside the car and said to Shuan, "Drive!"

The military cars were leading, and Major Kyle’s car was at the front. A long line of cars started to depart. Sylas didn’t follow them, but he rolled down the window when Major Kyle’s car passed by his parked car and said, "I will be at the rear. You guys lead the front."

Major Kyle didn’t question Sylas’s choice, but he knew Sylas’ strength was the strongest among all, so he only said, "Then be careful."

Sylas nodded at Major Kyle, Leo, and Shuan, who were also in the car, and replied, "You guys too."

Sylas had his own motives for wanting to drive at the rear end. He watched the cars pass by him as he remained seated in his car.

He took out a packet of biscuits from his space and started eating them. When he finished eating the biscuits, the last car finally passed. Sylas unscrewed the bottle of mineral water and gulped it down.

Seeing the last car leaving his vision, Sylas didn’t start his car engine. Instead, he opened the door and got out.

When his feet landed on the ground, Sylas immediately felt the faint trembling of the earth getting closer. The zombie army was indeed heading towards the safe zone.

He waved his hand, and his car immediately vanished. He stored it in his space.

Sylas then rushed into the forest behind the safe zone.

He wanted to go back to the Bluebird district. He still hadn’t given up on the gasoline because he knew that once he left Pinewood Town, it would be very difficult for him to get supplies and gasoline in bigger cities. So he wanted to loot the gasoline before leaving Pinewood Town.

If he took a detour via the forest, he would be able to bypass the zombie army and enter the town from the other side. But this also came with risks, and he knew that. The forest was not safe either. There was a very high chance that he would encounter mutated plants and animals, but he had no choice.

Gains come with risks, and Sylas decided to take the risk. Moreover, he was confident in his strength too.

Sylas ran through the forest at a fast speed. His senses were all in a heightened mode. He didn’t dare let down his guard. As expected, after some time, Sylas encountered a mutated plant. The mutated plant was bushy, and it had a lot of small fruits with thick cores. The mutated plant immediately attacked Sylas by shooting its fruits at him.

Sylas released his space barrier around him to block the mutated plant’s fruit attack. The mutated plant was not that strong, and for Sylas, dealing with it didn’t require much of his strength.

It didn’t take Sylas much effort to close in on the mutated plant. With a wave of his hand, the spatial blade rushed out, and the mutated plant was instantly cut into many pieces. Sylas extracted a pea-sized energy stone from the mutated plant, which he immediately threw into his space.

After that, Sylas came across a few other mutated plants and animals, but to Sylas’ disappointment, the mutated animals didn’t have any energy stones.

It was already dark, but Sylas was still sprinting through the forest. After awakening, his vision had also undergone a change, and as his strength kept increasing, he felt that his night vision was also getting better. So the darkness didn’t hinder his speed.

He planned to take the gasoline and head back to join Major Kyle’s group before dawn. At the same time, he had to evade the zombie army, especially the high-level zombie.

Howl!

Suddenly, Sylas heard howling sounds from ahead.

’A wolf!’ Sylas thought.

Wolves were rarely alone. They almost always moved in packs. A normal pack wouldn’t be a problem for Sylas. But mutated wolves? That was another story.

Sylas’ expression turned serious at this thought.

Howl! Howl!

As he got closer, the sound of howling became clearer.

Sylas analyzed the terrain of the forest through his memory. If possible, it was better to bypass that area instead of confronting the wolves and wasting time and energy.
