Chapter 48 - God Of Joy 3

Space chuckled, flipping a stray lock of silver hair back as he floated lazily. "Alright. Here's the real answer—I'm not from this multiverse."

Joy blinked hard, staring like Space had just rewritten reality. "Wait—HUH?!"

"You heard me," Space replied casually.

Joy clenched his fists. "You aren't from this multiverse?"

"Correct," Space confirmed, spinning upside down mid-air like he hadn't just said something insane.

Joy's mind raced. "Then how the hell did you even get here?"

For a heartbeat, Space's playful expression faltered. His smirk softened, his gaze flickering as if reliving a memory. Then, quicker than Joy could blink, the grin was back, sharper, hiding more than it revealed.

"Let's not answer that," Space said smoothly.

Joy's jaw tightened. "Seriously?" He could tell Space was deflecting, but before he could press further, Space redirected the conversation effortlessly.

"What you should really focus on... is your condition."

Joy grumbled under his breath but did as told. His attention shifted inward—and his brows furrowed almost immediately. His muscles screamed under strain, bones felt like cracked porcelain, and his whole frame ached like he'd been thrown through a collapsing mountain.

He brushed his fingers over a swollen bruise on his forearm, hissing softly. "Yeah, I look like a punching bag after 'festival' season... what about it?"

Space's grin widened, floating lazily upside down. "It's not how beaten you are—but don't you think you're stronger now?"

Joy blinked, then frowned. Stronger?

He closed his eyes, diving deeper into himself.

And then it hit him.

Past the pain, there was... more. His divine core pulsed like molten steel under pressure, tighter and denser. His energy wasn't leaking outward like before—it was contained, swirling deep inside him, potent and steady like a storm waiting to be unleashed.

His body felt... fortified.

He flexed a fist, feeling the difference in weight, in power, in stability. The aura around him flared briefly, shaking the broken platform beneath his feet.

"Holy crap," Joy muttered. "You're right... my core's stronger, my divine flow's tighter..." He looked at his hands, turning them as if seeing them for the first time.

"Exactly," Space said, tapping the side of his head. "A side effect of surviving my... extracurricular hits. Didn't just beat you for fun, y'know."

Joy glared at him, though a smirk crept up. "Sure felt like fun for you."

Space chuckled. "I'll admit, I got carried away. But look at you now—you just underwent forced adaptation. Your body adjusted under high-stress conditions, pushing your godly physique beyond its old limits."

Joy straightened, feeling the truth in Space's words. The brutal "training" had unlocked something. Still... "Why though?" Joy asked. "Why help me?"

Space's grin faltered just a bit. His eyes dimmed, reflecting something distant. "You remind me of someone," he murmured, voice lower, almost regretful.

Joy opened his mouth to respond, but Space was already floating backward, smirk returning.

"Well, that's enough personal talk. Goodbye."

Joy reached out instinctively. "Hey, wait—"

But Space was gone, fading like a wisp in the wind. The dome sealing the area vanished with him, the distorted space snapping back to normal like stretched fabric returning to shape.

The once-contained arena was now open to the chaotic world beyond.

Joy stood there, silent. The weight of the moment sank in.

He tilted his head skyward, narrowing his eyes at the vast empty heavens. His thoughts wandered—not to the battle nearby—but upward.

To Zar.

He could almost feel it—that subtle, ever-present awareness. Like eyes watching from an unseen plane, observing everything. Joy knew Zar often saw more than he let on. If he hadn't intervened during this entire ordeal, it meant one thing.

He allowed this to happen.

Or worse... he orchestrated it.

Joy's thoughts churned.

Was this Space guy part of Zar's plan? Did he test me through him? Or... does he know who Space really is?

Joy let the thoughts trail off and exhaled sharply, shaking himself free from them.

"Enough," he muttered to himself.

He slumped onto a broken pillar, letting his body heal itself. Slowly but surely, the bruises lightened, bones realigned, and muscles patched themselves up. Even while resting, he could feel the improved density in his physique—like he'd been reforged.

Space might be insane, he thought, but damn, he's effective.

Minutes passed before the sharp clang of distant battles reached his ears. He turned his head toward the horizon, divine clashes lighting up the skyline.

Joy stood up, cracking his knuckles.

Alright, he thought with a grin. Time to test this new strength.

Without hesitation, he sprinted toward the chaos, his aura burning brighter with every step.
