The Obsessive Tycoon Claims the Deserted Heiress-Chapter 50 - 049: Come to my house tonight
Chapter 50 - 049: Come to my house tonight
Xu Linchuan frowned: "The preliminary judgment is that the victim was assaulted before her death. However, the final result will have to wait for the coroner's report."
"That person is absolutely monstrous!" Jin Yunzhi clenched her fists, anger boiling over, wishing she could hack him into pieces. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Xu Linchuan let out a light "hmm," his gaze filled with determination: "I will bring him to justice as soon as possible."
The four of them walked out of the area together, stopping by the roadside near the back gate of the neighborhood.
The soft yellow glow of the streetlights fell on them, carrying a hint of warmth that inexplicably lightened their mood from the earlier heaviness.
Xu Linchuan lit a cigarette, gazing at the towering buildings ahead, his voice hoarse: "I'm heading to the victim's residence. What about you all?"
"Can we come with you?" Jin Yunzhi adjusted her coat, her bright black grape-like eyes fixed intently on him.
Xu Linchuan didn't refuse. He took a few deep drags from his cigarette, exhaled smoke rings that diffused into the air and slowly disappeared.
He led the group to Building Eight. After pressing the elevator button, he turned back to glance at Yu Zhi: "Which building do you live in? Is it close by?"
"Close," Yu Zhi responded indifferently, her cool voice devoid of any emotion: "Ninth floor."
Her words made several heads turn toward her in unison.
"This building?" Jin Yunzhi's eyes widened. He turned to ask Xu Linchuan: "What floor is the victim on?"
"Eleventh floor," Xu Linchuan answered just as the elevator doors opened.
Once inside, he looked at Yu Zhi worriedly: "Do you live with family, or...?"
"Alone."
"In that case, you'd better not return here for the time being. It's not safe."
Jin Yunzhi chimed in: "I agree. Why not move for now? We can help you find a place."
Feeling their genuine concern, warmth brushed across Yu Zhi's heart.
She gave a slight nod, and the corners of her lips curved gently: "Thank you. I'll think about it."
Standing beside her, Shi Wei had already lost his composure by the time she spoke.
He lowered his gaze, staring at the young woman's smile. As the elevator chimed with a 'ding,' he grabbed her wrist.
"I need to talk to her. You guys go ahead," he said briskly, pulling her in the opposite direction.
At the staircase, the two stood facing each other in the dim light.
Weak illumination spilled in, allowing only their silhouettes and the glimmer of each other's eyes to be seen.
Yu Zhi tilted her head slightly, confusion evident: "What's wrong?"
Shi Wei didn't say a word. He stepped toward her, one foot after another. Yu Zhi instinctively backed away with each step until her back pressed firmly against the white wall, leaving her no room to retreat. Only then did he stop.
"Where are you planning to stay tonight?" Shi Wei asked, propping one hand against the wall beside her, shrinking the distance between them.
The atmosphere suddenly grew intimate, with the subtle sound of their breaths amplified in the quiet.
Yu Zhi froze for a moment. She pursed her lips slightly: "I haven't found a place yet."
The suddenness of the situation left her unprepared and unable to arrange for a new place in such a short time.
Her response was what Shi Wei had expected. He took a deep breath, his tone carrying a hint of suggestion: "Then come to my place?"
"Your place?" Yu Zhi was surprised. Her delicate brows raised slightly: "Why?"
"My place is safe. You can focus on your studies without worry."
Yu Zhi: "..."
She felt safe living alone, too.
Yu Zhi was about to refuse when he spoke again: "I have many rooms at home. You can choose any one you like."
Shi Wei wrapped his arm around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder and murmuring by her ear: "Is that alright?"
The act stepped over the line a bit.
But Shi Wei had wanted to do this for a long time, especially since seeing the victim's tragic state. At that moment, he had an overwhelming urge to hold her tightly and promise to protect her from harm, to ensure no one would ever humiliate her.
Flushed with a rosy hue, Yu Zhi's cheeks betrayed her emotions. She awkwardly pushed his shoulder, her voice barely audible: "Let go of me first."
This sort of intimate contact had never happened before, and the tingling sensation coursing through her body made her tense all over.
Though Yu Zhi didn't dislike Shi Wei, she still felt an odd discomfort she couldn't put into words.
"Agree first," Shi Wei demanded, his grip on her waist tightening.
Yu Zhi was startled by his persistence and, holding back her frustration, repeated: "Let go first."
"No."
"..."
At this moment, Yu Zhi completely forgot her martial arts skills, focusing solely on pushing him away.
After struggling for a while to no avail, she sighed in defeat and frowned: "Fine. I agree. Can you let go now?"
"Alright, but no take-backs," Shi Wei answered with a sly smile. He took a deep inhale of her scent before reluctantly releasing her.
As soon as she freed herself from his embrace, Yu Zhi exhaled deeply. She stole a glance at Shi Wei, then lowered her head and walked away briskly.
At the end of the corridor, the victim's apartment door was wide open. Jin Yunzhi stood at the entrance, occasionally craning his neck to peek inside but hesitating to enter.
Seeing Shi Wei and Yu Zhi arrive, he finally seemed to find his anchor and visibly relaxed.
"What took you so long?" Jin Yunzhi casually remarked, with no suspicion attached to his tone.
But as the words reached Yu Zhi's ears, they took on a different meaning. Her lashes quivered uneasily before she quickly shifted the topic: "Why haven't you gone in yet?"
Jin Yunzhi chuckled somewhat eagerly: "Let's go, let's go. We're heading in now."
"Put the shoe covers on first." A defined hand extended out from behind her.
Yu Zhi responded with a light "hmm," quickly taking the shoe covers he handed her and putting them on, not sparing him a glance throughout the process—perhaps still feeling a bit shy.
The three of them stayed in the living room for a while. Since this apartment was in the same building, its layout was similar to Yu Zhi's.
However, the décor of this home was noticeably cheerful and cozy. The overall theme was warm hues, and there were plenty of teddy bear plushies scattered throughout.
On the coffee table sat a lit laptop, a water cup, a stack of folders, and a phone. The clutter seemed to be the homeowner's doing rather than someone else's.
"Shall we check the bedroom?" Jin Yunzhi pointed inside with a curious glint in his eyes.
Yu Zhi nodded. Perhaps knowing Jin Yunzhi was a bit timid, she took the lead.
Inside the bedroom, several forensic investigators with cameras were working to collect evidence. Not wanting to disturb their work, the trio stopped at the doorway.
The most striking detail in the room was the pile of bloodstained glass shards scattered on the floor. The victim's right foot must have been injured here.
