Chapter 188: 184: Come bother me again, watch out for your lives_2
Shi Weiqing cast a glance, and his voice suddenly sank, as though laced with icy blades—sharp, unyielding, and chilling: "Tell her, I don’t need it."
The waiter froze for a moment, overwhelmed by the aura emanating from him—it was so formidable that the words stuck in his throat, not even a syllable could escape.
He bowed his head and apologized, "Sorry for disturbing you."
But what answered him was a merciless ’bang’ sound, carried by a gust of force.
Yu Zhi had heard their conversation crystal clearly. When that exquisite face reappeared on the screen, she instinctively asked, "Who is Miss Bai?"
This question made Shi Weiqing panic for no reason. He straightened his posture, gripping his phone tightly, and the slight upward curve of his peach-shaped eyes now carried a look of seriousness.
"Someone unimportant." The man quickly explained his connection with Bai Shirui as soon as her lips moved.
He even told her, without skipping a beat, about their coincidental meeting downstairs earlier and what topics they’d touched on.
"I didn’t know she’d send me anything either." Shi Weiqing, worried that the little girl might misunderstand, wore an exceptionally solemn expression, nearly swearing an oath to the heavens.
Yu Zhi lowered her gaze, pondering for a moment as an indefinable emotion flickered through her almond-colored eyes: "Is she a friend of that woman?"
"Which woman?"
"The one who likes you."
When the girl mentioned the word "likes," it was as if a dense aroma of jealousy wafted towards the man.
He keenly picked up on her displeasure.
"Zhizhi, I only like you." Shi Weiqing gently placated her, throwing caution to the wind as sweet words poured out: "They can’t even compare to a strand of your hair."
His survival instincts kicking into overdrive, he ignored everything else and even used the most intimate nickname: "Wife, I promise I won’t flirt with anyone else. Trust me."
"I never said I didn’t trust you." Yu Zhi lightly pursed her lips as a blush crept up her cheeks.
Like a ripe, tempting peach, begging to be plucked and savored.
She minimized the video call screen and quietly noted the location he had sent her earlier in the morning.
Opening up a delivery app, she quickly selected a nearby vendor and ordered something for him.
"Zhizhi?" The video call stuttered for a few seconds, and Shi Weiqing’s heart, which had just settled, was once again in disarray.
His whole being felt as if he was on a roller coaster, suspended in mid-air.
"Hmm." Yu Zhi restored the video screen back to normal, her clear, unflinching eyes fixed on him: "Why haven’t you had dinner yet?"
"Busy and lost track of time." Having missed the mealtime, he didn’t even feel hungry anymore.
He simply hadn’t expected Bai Shirui to, by some inexplicable coincidence, send over a dinner—it felt eerily strange.
Yu Zhi furrowed her brows slightly, her tone serious: "You can’t keep doing this. It’s bad for your stomach."
"Alright, I’ll listen to you." Shi Weiqing curled his lips into a faint smile. Seeing that the little girl’s demeanor didn’t seem upset, he finally eased his tense back.
He leaned against the bedhead, his gaze tracing the face on the screen as memories of the photo she’d sent him earlier in the afternoon brought a deeper joy to his mood.
"Zhizhi, did you enjoy your trip to the zoo today?" His gentle voice was like a clear mountain spring cascading over rocks—crisp and pleasing to the ear.
"It was alright." Yu Zhi, facing the screen, let a diamond-like brilliance light up her eyes.
She rested her chin on one hand: "How’s the molybdenum business negotiation going? My friend, he—"
’His company deals in molybdenum mining.’
Before she could finish the sentence, a crisp and rapid series of doorbell rings broke the warm, tranquil scene between them once again.
Shi Weiqing’s smile froze suddenly, an inexplicable sense of foreboding rising within him.
Dragging his feet, he walked over to the door. When he looked through the peephole and saw Bai Shirui’s face, his expression instantly darkened noticeably.
"Shi Weiqing, aren’t you going to open the door?" Yu Zhi, seeing him rooted in place by the door, felt a strange emotion stirring inside her, causing some discomfort.
"Zhizhi, the person outside is just that..." This time, he didn’t even bother to say her name.
Yu Zhi responded with a light sound. She lowered her gaze as the cold white light swept over her face, casting faint shadows below her eyes.
After a few seconds, her gaze settled calmly on the man, the darkness in her eyes dissipating in an instant: "Ask her what she wants."
This clearly meant she wanted him to open the door.
Shi Weiqing didn’t hesitate. While pressing down on the handle, he adjusted the camera to face outside, ensuring the little girl wouldn’t misunderstand.
