Chapter 172: 171: You can let her go if you kneel down

Maybe it was the woman’s disdain that provoked K. The five fingers covering her face suddenly clenched together, and he slapped her hard without hesitation.

The crisp sound echoed in her ears, making Ruan Yuan’s head buzz. Her disheveled hair covered the side of her face, and as she looked at the concrete floor, her eyes were filled with hatred.

K let out a mocking laugh. He stood up straight and leisurely sat back on the reclining chair, tapping the floor lightly with his toes, causing the already unstable chair to continuously creak.

He lit another cigarette and began casually toying with the whip in his hand, occasionally swinging it near the woman’s feet to frighten her.

"Z hasn’t shown up for so long—guess your relationship isn’t worth much," he said impatiently as he glanced at the time.

He then instructed the men stationed downstairs to wait by the small path leading to this place.

Ruan Yuan leaned her head back, closed her eyes, and rested against the chair legs, becoming noticeably calmer. Even her tone turned flat: "What you’re trying to do won’t work on me."

Though she wasn’t sure of the exact grudge between Little Zhi and him in the past, the notorious exploits of K, a man capable of any evil deed, were well-known in the circle.

And she, naturally, had nothing but disdain for his filthy methods.

"You think I’m trying to provoke you?" K exhaled a puff of smoke toward her.

His index finger tapped the cigarette, scattering white ashes on the ground: "She won’t come for you."

Just as he finished speaking, the sound of footsteps echoed from the staircase entrance.

K raised an eyebrow and flicked the cigarette butt into the corner. Slowly, he stood behind the woman, joining her in staring toward the source of the sound.

Yu Zhi’s heart clenched as she saw the bloodied, swollen-cheeked woman.

She stood opposite K, her almond-shaped eyes deep and shadowed, as though they were an abyss unreachable by sunlight: "Let her go."

K lightly caressed Ruan Yuan’s cheek, the smile on his face becoming grotesque. He leaned down, pressing himself against her shoulder: "How unexpected."

He had been agonizing over whether he should kill her if the other person didn’t show up or cut off her hands and feet and toss her into the sea to feed the fish.

But now it seemed his choices were less complicated.

Ruan Yuan let out a soft, mirthless laugh. She glanced at the worried girl and shook her head slightly. The hands bound behind the chair gestured discreetly behind her.

"Z, I’ll release her, but on one condition—" The man soaked in spite failed to notice her subtle movements.

He raised his hand, whipping the concrete floor with a resounding crack: "You kneel and crawl over."

Yu Zhi’s gaze fixed on him, remaining expressionless. As her long legs took a step forward, K swiftly coiled his whip around Ruan Yuan’s neck.

"That afraid of me?" She halted, her delicate eyebrows arching slightly in response.

The disregard and arrogance evident in her demeanor made K gnash his teeth with fury.

Grabbing a handful of Ruan Yuan’s hair, he yanked hard, roaring furiously: "Kneel or not!?"

Yu Zhi’s eyes lingered for a few seconds on the woman who hadn’t emitted a single cry of pain throughout.

As she bent her knee in hesitation, her hand brushed against the gun holstered at her waist.

"Little Zhi, what are you doing?!" Ruan Yuan’s eyes widened, her sockets reddening instantaneously.

She struggled with all her might, the ropes behind the chair scraping her hands raw: "If you kneel, Ruan Yuan will have no friend like you ever again!"

The woman’s choked protest filled K with immense pleasure.

He straightened his back, quietly waiting for the girl before him to gradually kneel with both legs, already imagining how she’d crawl obediently like a dog to beg at his feet.

"Z, even you have come to this today but—"

Before even finishing his words, the sight of the girl charging at him caught him off guard, her icy cold firearm aimed directly at his temple.

A masculine presence encroached behind him just as he prepared to retaliate. His neck was seized, and he was dragged backward several steps.

"It’s you again." K tilted his head to look at Shi Wei, veins bulging across his forehead and his eyes threatening to pop.

He clenched his fists, focusing the strength in his elbows, and rammed backward toward the man’s abdomen.

Shi Wei reacted swiftly, sidestepping and unhesitatingly aiming the gun at K’s shoulder before pulling the trigger.

The bullet tore through his clothing, releasing bright crimson blood. K grimaced and suppressed the pain, raising his fist for another move.

But before his attack could connect, his knee was abruptly struck, forcing both legs to buckle to the ground with an audible crack of broken bone.

Yu Zhi gripped the hilt of her knife, driving its sharp tip into the joint of K’s wrist. With a single thrust, the blade pierced through his wrist.

"Ah!!" K shrieked in agony as he crumbled on the floor.

His entire body felt shattered; he couldn’t decide which injury to tend to first, breathing heavily as he stared at the ceiling.

The metallic scent of blood permeated Yu Zhi’s senses. Her hand trembled on the knife hilt, her eyes suddenly filling with a feral red glow.

She swallowed hard, fighting against the violent impulses roiling within her, but the blood scent stirred her irrationality further, clouding her mind.

"Zhizhi," Shi Wei noticed her unusual state and immediately wrapped his arms around her waist.

He smoothed her hair gently, his expression heavy yet his voice soft: "It’s okay, it’s over."

The man’s familiar presence surrounded Yu Zhi, and she closed her eyes, clutching his clothing tightly as she took deep breaths to calm herself.

But the blood scent still lingered, the darkness pressing relentlessly on her emotions: "Shi Wei, let me go outside for now."

Yu Zhi pushed against the man’s shoulder, her lips pressed into a tight line as she pointed at the still-bound woman. Her voice cracked: "Untie her."

Leaving these words behind, she hurried down the stairs, her movements quick. She didn’t even bother retrieving the backpack she’d left on the floor.

Shi Wei silently watched her disappearing figure. Then, unhurriedly, he walked to Ruan Yuan’s chair, reaching out a hand before abruptly pulling it back.

His brows furrowed tightly, and he made a call to Chen Cai upstairs who was overseeing K’s subordinates, instructing him to handle the situation.

"Go find Little Zhi first." Ruan Yuan leaned against the chair back, indifferent to his lack of action.

She had investigated him earlier and knew about his aversion to women. Only Little Zhi could ever be an exception.

Shi Wei cast a glance at K, who lay motionless on the ground, bloodied and incapacitated, but he didn’t move toward the staircase.

"Zhizhi, what’s wrong with her?" he muttered softly, his gaze fixed upward.

He reflected carefully—it seemed her outbursts always happened when she was facing K. Yet he couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason.
