Chapter 45: Evaluation Test (Part 6)

Blood streamed down Cole’s forehead as he struggled to comprehend how he could be in the same position again – those marbles were in front of him, long since rolled to a stop and Cynthia stood before him with that complicated expression yet again.

She didn’t really know what to think of him now... but she was surprised though, one of the marbles had been shattered. The assignment was only half completed.

"Soulless, again?" Cynthia asked while clenching her fists... "Are you for real? Again?"

As Cole struggled to find out the meaning of this test while dodging, his movement speed was lowered quite considerably giving the marbles enough time to back him into a corner.

Their ricocheting figures adorned the air and threatened to overwhelm Cole but the crimson haired Apprentice had other things in mind – Cole sprinted by them and they crashed into the wall behind him, shooting forward with absurd speed.

The first marble collided with his back, all the built-up momentum giving it’s purpose as a shockwave instantly pulsated through his entire back sending his body down to the ground immediately under impact, as he fell to the ground, the second marble passed by him and bounced off the neighboring wall to the ceiling and then down to Cole, hitting him in the back. And then the third descended, striking him at the back of the head...

Cole’s face smashed into the arena and it was there that he lost the battle...

"I tried," Cole said, "But I don’t understand the purpose of this entire ordeal, why dodge? There’s a timer in your hand but I kept on for nearly 10 minutes and that timer didn’t go out,"

A firm hand gripped Cole’s shoulder and threw him out of the arena with ease... Cole glanced at the figure and saw Rem.

"Because the timer isn’t what you should be focused on, neither is dodging," Rem said as Cynthia grinned a bit – a grin befitting her scheming face, she raised up her hands and the two marbles returned... glimmering with soul energy.

"You only did half the assignment," Rem completed while folding his arms as he stepped forward and crushed the broken marble beneath his feet, "So I’ll do the rest,"

"Quite confident words," Cynthia said, "But how do you know you won’t fall like your friends here? The marbles suck off soul energy outstandingly,"

Rem was silent, his gray eyes pulsating with meaning as Cynthia pulled out one more marbles from her jacket and rose them into the air.

"Being confident will result you ending up like your first friend!" Cynthia exclaimed as the marbles shot through the air at blinding speed, each of them heading for Rem.

Cole straightened himself mid-air and landed on the ground – watching Rem with utmost seriousness... he couldn’t believe his eyes.

Green aura pulsated out of Rem’s eyes as he leaned his head to the right, dodging all three in an instant – his hands found their way into his pockets just as the three marbles returned from behind him, Rem tilted to the side dodging them yet again and this time as the marbles bounced off the other wall, they separated threatening to come at him from all sides but Rem stood unfaltering.

’His eyes... they look ... dangerous,’ Cynthia thought while a chill went down her spine as Rem tilted his head to the right and dodged the first marble, he didn’t even need to look at the marble, ’Is he... a monster?’

The second marble was easily dodged by him and he only spun around to avoid the third, It was almost like he could envision everything happening without actually looking... foreseeing everything that happened within the blink of an eye.

As the marbles kept speeding up, Rem sped up his dodging to match them – he already knew the motive behind the Evaluation test, it was to crush the marbles before the timer went out. The timer was probably set from 10 – 15 minutes and if the marble dealt maximum damage against you, you were down for the count.

’Quite troublesome,’ Rem thought as he kept dodging, his figure blurring and keeping up with the marbles, even as they sped up... he could still keep up with them, after all, not only had he grown stronger – his Lock-on skill had leveled up.

He could now lock-on to multiple targets at once and know their locations... the Monster Monarch System was truly overpowered. Rem’s eyes followed the first target, leaping upward and kicking it while his foot was wrapped with soul energy.

The marble shattered under impact and the second one appeared in front of Rem, it’s aim was clear – to hit his forehead but Rem was prepared, his right hand pulsated with soul energy as he smashed it immediately with a single punch and whirled around, the third marble bounced off the ceiling and headed right for him.

Rem’s feet touched the ground and he leapt to the right, the marble came crashing down on the ground a moment later... all of it’s earlier momentum causing it to create a crater on the ground before bouncing out, right for Rem’s face but he caught it with his palm and crushed it with force before it started sucking away Soul energy.

"Is the test done?" Rem asked as the glow in his eyes disappeared, his guard was still up.

Cynthia was still in a daze, she had never seen such perfect and refined motions before – there was truly more to this boy than what met the eye.

’I can’t even believe that he’s only 14,’ Cynthia thought, ’By the time he becomes 18 and certifies for the Cavalier Institution, he’ll be a menace for sure,’

"Yes," Cynthia said, trying her best not to show her surprise, "In a week’s time, you shall be summoned to see the Mayor again for your reward,"

"Hope he doesn’t grab me like a sack of yams anymore," Rem muttered with a sigh – it was all too disturbing to be around that guy.

"What?" Cynthia muttered under her lips, "Sack of yams? What has he been doing with Rem?"
