The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 42: Evaluation Test (Part 3)
Rem gritted his teeth unwillingly, being dragged about like a toy... if only he had enough strength to fight back, he would have but the mayor’s aura suppressed his soul energy which was miniscule in comparison - it was truly troublesome dealing with the Mayor.
"Your friends are down below," The Mayor informed Rem as they stood at the stands where the battles were going to be overseen from up above.
’Who’s that girl?’ Rem thought.
She looked very similar to the Mayor... in fact, almost like a carbon copy except that they were of different genders and were years apart in age – Rem could easily deduce that she was his daughter.
’Is that who we are going to be facing against?’ Rem thought, with her levels of soul energy - it would be an easy win but Soul energy wasn’t the only thing one had to be cautious about in a battle, there was also Convergence and even a Cavalier with a fragment of soul energy could land the technique and he didn’t want to be caught up in one.
"That girl... she might not have the greatest amounts of soul energy but her technique and form, they exceed that of any Apprentice in this town," The Mayor said, "She will be your superior for the Evaluation test,"
"What’s the purpose of this evaluation test?" Rem asked, "It’s barely been thirty minutes after the battle of our lives and you’re already giving us a test... seems pretty shady,"
The Mayor shrugged.
"I just feel like it," He said and took a step back, sending Rem sailing toward the platform below – for the Evaluation test.
’All will be revealed in due time,’ The Mayor thought.
Rem instantly flipped in the air – stabilizing his body mid-air and landing on the ground, his movements were seamless and looked effortless but even the mayor knew that Rem had to have a great amount of body control for such a stunt.
Cole’s eyes landed on Rem and he blinked a bit... he could vividly remember a Dungeon gate opening right before he lost consciousness – was it really Rem?
’He feels different,’ Cole thought, he couldn’t wrap his head around how Rem felt different – but he could just sense it, something had changed about the younger boy...
Rem’s eyes turned to Cole as a small smile spread across his lips, Cole gulped deeply as he knew what Rem was about to do, he only smiled when he wanted to taunt and Rem was damn good at looking down on a person.
But the smile faded as Rem turned away from Cole and then to the blond haired girl.
’So he’s the special person the Mayor was talking about,’ Cynthia thought as she felt the aura permeating from his body – it might be nothing in the face of the Mayor but considering he was two years younger than her... it was quite surprising.
"This evaluation test..." Rem muttered while raising his right hand and cupping his chin, a green flash crossing his eyes as he locked them on Cynthia’s figure, "It’s an assurance for some sort of expedition,"
Cynthia stuttered for a bit.
’He’s almost right,’ Cynthia thought while taking in a deep breath.
"Wrong!" Cynthia said, going along with what she was told – "That monster was at least B rank and the fact that all of you defeated him... you all have the potential to become worthy Cavaliers in the future, and it is my job to give you an evaluation,"
Rem’s right hand dropped and he smirked.
"But if it was a regular Evaluation... you could have waited a bit, for us to fully recuperate. You only gave them a bit of Healing potions, this means that it’s very importan-"
Rem couldn’t even finish speaking, Cynthia had already closed the distance between them... her fists surrounded by pale blue soul energy – she sent a punch sailing directly at his face. Rem of course didn’t plan on standing there but even though she had only enforced her fist with soul energy, this girl was much faster than he was.
’Ah, I see,’ Rem thought as he barely tilted his face to the right, her fist grazing the side of his cheek and creating a slight cut – in the next moment, Rem had already made distance between himself and the girl... he noted that he didn’t have to be afraid of her soul energy output but rather of her speed and fighting form, everything seemed perfectly coordinated.
"Are you ready to listen?" Cynthia asked as the others blinked – Rem had been at their side before but now he was suddenly far behind and Cynthia at their sides... it occurred so fast for them to keep up, even Mika was straining her eyes to keep up – the effects of her earlier Convergence had faded but the feeling was fresh in her mind, the feeling of her mind and body synergizing to bring about the technique was imprinted eternally.
Rem didn’t reply, wiping his wounded cheek with his finger.
’Not a deep enough wound but well enough for a split second,’ Rem thought as he nodded slowly.
"This evaluation test is going to be very simple," Cynthia said, "It’s not going to be a spar or anything – but a simple test of your knowledge,"
"Not everything is about strength, but rather on your form or evasiveness," Cynthia said, "What if you meet an opponent that is visibly stronger than you? What do you plan on doing then? That’s why this evaluation is being held – to test your evasive capacities, I believe you are well-informed Soulless,"
Cole pursed his lips... unable to reply, he wasn’t even able to look Cynthia in the eyes which spoke volumes about the fact that they had probably met before.
Cynthia reached for her pocket and pulled out a single black marble, flooding it with her soul energy.
"I will use this pebble to test you," Cynthia said, eliciting a confident chuckle from Mika.
"A simple pebble?" Mika asked as she stepped forward – looking at the slightly older blondie with a hateful gaze, "Try something better,"
"Why don’t you go first then?" Cynthia asked with a delightful smile, "I’d be happy to crush your confidence,"
Soul energy flared around Mika’s hair as she glared at the blond girl.
"Go ahead," Mika said.
