The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 218: Harnessing Convergence (Part 2)
What exactly was Convergence? And why was it hard to achieve?
Convergence was one of those rare feats in the world of soul energy, a skill that separated the truly powerful from the rest.
It was difficult to grasp, not because it was inherently complex, but because it required a complete understanding of one’s own soul energy and body. In essence, it was the ability to draw upon a massive amount of soul energy and condense it into a single, concentrated force that could be unleashed in devastating ways.
For a moment, Luke stood still, his body tingling with a strange sense of fullness.
It was as if every cell in his body was alive with energy, his reserves swelled far beyond their normal limits. He could feel it — the raw, untamed soul energy that coursed through him, waiting to be harnessed.
It was an intoxicating feeling, the sensation of being stronger, faster, more alive than ever before.
But as he stood there, still catching his breath, Luke understood that there was something more to it than just the overwhelming power.
He felt like he could shape that energy, twist it, control it in ways he hadn’t even thought possible. For a brief moment, it felt like the energy was a part of him, an extension of his very will.
"That," Rem’s voice broke through Luke’s thoughts, pulling his focus back to the present. "What you just did is called a Convergence."
Luke blinked, still trying to wrap his head around what had just happened. He looked over at his mentor, trying to make sense of his words.
"A Convergence?" he asked, still trying to steady himself. "What’s that?"
Rem clapped his hands together, a small, proud smile creeping onto his face. "A Convergence is not easy to land, that’s for sure. But when you land one, it’s a huge step forward in mastering soul energy."
Luke’s curiosity piqued, and he listened closely as Rem continued.
"A Convergence isn’t just about using more soul energy, it’s about condensing it — controlling it," Rem explained. "When your adrenaline is running high, your body naturally produces more soul energy. But when you’re in that state, it’s hard to gauge how much you’re really wielding. The difference between a regular punch and one thrown under the influence of adrenaline is vast, right? The same applies here, but with Convergence, you’re learning to focus that energy and mold it into something greater."
Luke’s mind started to process the idea, his excitement bubbling beneath the surface. He had always known there was something more to soul energy, something beyond just raw power. But now he had felt it, he understood. It wasn’t just about drawing more energy; it was about controlling the flow, mastering the force of nature that lay dormant within him.
"But why is it so hard to achieve?" Luke asked, the question weighing heavily on his mind.
Rem sighed, his expression growing more serious. "Well, as I said, it’s not just about raw power. To land a Convergence, you need absolute control over your soul energy. It requires not just concentration, but the ability to manage a surge of power while you’re already at your limit. You’re drawing on the deepest reserves of your soul, and it’s easy to lose control. If you can’t stabilize that power, it’ll burn you out or even tear you apart."
Luke could feel the weight of Rem’s words. It wasn’t just about pushing through, it was about understanding the very limits of your own body and soul. He had barely even scratched the surface of that control, and now that he had tasted the power of a Convergence, he couldn’t help but want more.
Rem’s voice brought him back to reality. "But once you master it, a Convergence will temporarily boost your reserves, making you stronger and faster. It’ll allow you to manipulate your soul energy with greater efficiency. The problem is that this boost is temporary, and once it wears off, you’ll be left with nothing but the aftermath. That’s why Convergence is useful in longer battles, where you can take advantage of the increased energy to gain the upper hand."
Luke nodded slowly, processing the information.
He could already feel the aftereffects of his Convergence. His body was lighter, but he knew the energy would fade, and soon, he’d be back to his normal self... it was a temporary boost.
Rem could see the curiosity in his eyes, but he knew there was someone else who was equally eager to experience this newfound power.
Kiara stood to the side, watching her brother with wide eyes. There was no mistaking the hunger in her gaze.
She had always been a little more reserved than Luke, but in moments like this, when power was in reach, she couldn’t hide her desire to test herself.
Rem caught the look in her eyes, a slight smirk forming on his face. He knew Kiara was more than capable of landing a Convergence if she focused.
"Kiara," Rem said, his voice firm yet encouraging. "There’s your chance."
He gestured to the far end of the clearing, where a Swamplizard was trying to blend into the environment.
It had slithered behind a large rock, but Rem’s sharp eyes had already pinpointed its position. The monster was weak, and most importantly, it was an opportunity for Kiara to try her hand at a Convergence.
Before Rem could even finish his sentence, Kiara was already moving. A blur of motion, she sprinted across the clearing, her long hair trailing behind her like a streak of lightning.
Her eyes were fixed on the Swamplizard, determination radiating from her every movement.
Luke watched with a mix of pride and envy. He had just landed a Convergence, but he knew Kiara would be right behind him.
It was always like that between them — they were each other’s competition, but also each other’s greatest motivators.
Kiara closed the distance between herself and the Swamplizard in the blink of an eye. With a fierce battle cry, she launched herself forward, her fist glowing with soul energy.
The moment her fist made contact with the creature’s body, there was a flash of light — a crackling surge of black and crimson energy that burst outward in every direction.
The Swamplizard let out a guttural scream, its body crumpling under the sheer force of Kiara’s attack. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Sparks of soul energy exploded around her like fireworks, her body moving with such precision and grace that it was almost as if she had anticipated every move. The creature didn’t stand a chance.
Kiara pulled her fist back as the Swamplizard collapsed, defeated. She stood over the creature, her chest rising and falling with the rush of adrenaline still coursing through her. Her eyes shone with a fierce glow, the exhilaration of the fight still buzzing in her veins.
"That," Rem said, a proud grin spreading across his face. "Is the power of a Convergence."
Kiara looked back at him, a look of satisfaction on her face. She had done it. She had landed her first Convergence.
And just like that, she could feel the change in her own body — the surge of power, the thrill of control.
