Chapter 216: Monsters From The Creek (Part 3)

Before Rem could even take a step toward the children, the remnants of the monsters burst from the flaming river, leaping into the air with startling speed.

The Swamplizards, their thick armor glinting under the fading light, hit the ground with a heavy thud and immediately began charging toward him. There were at least ten or fifteen of them, their guttural cries piercing the air as they closed the distance with alarming speed – their eyes were glowing, with rage as they planned to gang up and put an end to Rem immediately.

Despite the sudden onslaught, Rem didn’t even flinch. He didn’t even bother to turn around.

His attention remained fixed on the children, who were still a safe distance away. There was no need to worry about them — they would be fine. But this... this was a challenge he couldn’t ignore.

"You can’t seriously call this a challenge," Rem muttered to himself, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he finally spun around to face the approaching Swamplizards.

One of them, a massive creature with jagged claws and bloodshot eyes, swung its fist at his head, a blow that could easily crush a human skull.

But Rem didn’t even seem concerned.

In an instant, he parried the strike with minimal effort. The force of the blow sent ripples through the air, forming shockwaves that vibrated the ground beneath him.

The Swamplizard staggered back, its arm numb from the impact, but it quickly recovered.

Rem, however, remained completely calm. The battle didn’t faze him.

The creature’s allies didn’t waste any time. Two others leapt at him in quick succession, their eyes blazing with fury.

They were fast, but Rem was faster. His body blurred as he dodged their attacks with ease, stepping aside and letting their wild punches slice through the air in vain.

They were trying to land hits, but they lacked the precision and speed needed to reach him. Rem didn’t even break a sweat.

"Is that all you’ve got?" Rem said, his voice casual, almost bored as he dodged another strike.

The moment he finished speaking, his body shifted, and without warning, he closed the distance between him and one of the attackers.

His foot snapped out, striking the Swamplizard’s cheek with a devastating impact.

There was a sickening crack as the bones in its face shattered, the creature’s skull caving in under the force of the blow.

The shockwave from the impact sent the monster flying, its limp body soaring across the battlefield before crashing into the water with a loud splash.

But that wasn’t the end of it. The Swamplizard didn’t even stop there. It continued to shoot through the water, carried by its own momentum, until it collided with a long, sharp rock.

The creature’s body was impaled, its struggles ceasing almost immediately.

Rem didn’t have time to admire his work. The other two Swamplizards, seeing one of their comrades fall so easily, attacked with renewed ferocity. They threw punches, rapid combinations of strikes aimed at different parts of his body.

Their fury was palpable, but it was clear to Rem that they were simply too slow, too predictable.

With a sharp exhale, Rem kicked off the ground, propelling himself several meters away from the incoming attacks.

The monsters’ fists met only air as he effortlessly dodged their strikes, his body moving with fluid grace.

His feet touched the ground lightly, and before they could adjust, he was already on the move again.

His soul energy wrapped around him like a second skin, glowing faintly in the dimming light of the battlefield.

He closed the gap between himself and the first Swamplizard with breathtaking speed. In an instant, his fist drove into the creature’s chest, the sound of cracking bones echoing in the air.

The force of the punch was overwhelming, and the Swamplizard’s chest caved in under the blow. It staggered back, its face twisted in agony, before it collapsed to the ground, lifeless.

The second Swamplizard didn’t even have a chance to react. It threw a wild punch at Rem, but he sidestepped it with ease, his body almost floating in the air as he dodged the attack.

Before the creature could recover, Rem was already behind it. With a flick of his wrist, he drove his fist into its back, shattering the monster’s spine in one clean motion. The Swamplizard let out a gurgling scream before its body crumpled to the ground in an unmoving heap.

The battle was over as quickly as it had started. The remaining Swamplizards had no time to regroup or retaliate. They were all either dead or incapacitated, their bodies scattered across the battlefield in various positions.

Rem stood at the center, his chest rising and falling steadily as he surveyed the carnage around him.

It wasn’t that he was particularly merciless — it was just that he had become so accustomed to the violence of this world that it had lost all emotional impact.

There was no joy in killing, no thrill of the hunt. It was simply a matter of survival. And he was very, very good at surviving.

His eyes flicked back to the children, who were still huddled together, their eyes wide with fear.

Rem felt a pang of something in his chest, a fleeting sense of responsibility. He had to make sure they were safe.

The monsters had learned that the hard way. And now, it was time for him to do the same.

"Don’t worry," Rem called out, his voice carrying across the battlefield. His tone was calm, reassuring. "It’s safe now."

He walked toward the children, his footsteps steady, his expression unreadable.

As he approached them, he allowed himself a small, fleeting smile. It was a reminder — something to hold on to. He wasn’t just surviving anymore. He was protecting something.

And that, for all its challenges, was worth fighting for. Besides if trained properly, these children, Luke and Kiara would have enough potential to surpass even the strongest of Cavaliers...

But their training needed to be harsh.
