Chapter 201: The Changing Ruins (Part 5)

In a gamble, if you knew exactly what your opponent chose – you reigned supreme.

That was the truth of the matter...

It was a game where predictions played an absolute role, but if a person was able to see what their Opponent was playing with, it was an automatic win, almost like some sort of omniscient vision.

Cheating was well-known in gambling, everyone wanted to make a profit after all. Nobody wanted to lose but if one was caught cheating in any casino within the town, they would lose their qualifications to gamble within Onio town as all the casinos were entwined.

The Burly Beastkin took another step forward, throwing a small nod at the receptionist that sat in the corner. Everyone knew him – he was a B-grade Cavalier which made him a popular figure in Onio but there was another title he went by, a name familiar to the Gamblers, The Beast Gambler.

He was always known to be one step of his opponent; a regular gambler couldn’t compete with a beastkin of his caliber. The Beastkin took several steps forward, staring at the other tables which games were currently being played in – he stared at the humans like they were a waste of his time, an expression of disdain painting his face.

He suddenly stomped his foot on the ground and roared.

"My name is Yokama and I look for a challenge!" He yelled, "Bring the strongest Gambler you have to offer!"

Rem stared at the man, there was something dangerous to him but he looked back at his Father, the older man seated with folded arms – Rem was sure that the others would point at his father; he was a successful gambler after all.

And like Rem had predicted, the others pointed at Greg who sat on the chair with an expression of calmness on his face.

"Good," Yokama said as he walked in the direction of Greg’s table, his eyes meeting Rem’s for a brief moment – there was something about the childish gaze of the boy that seemed off, ’What a strange kid,’

He sat on the chair at the opposite side of Greg’s table, his mind momentarily floating away from the boy as he sat opposite a man that seemed confident, the confidence was literally radiating from him.

’He’s a beastkin,’ Greg thought, ’I need to be very careful in this match, they have high perception after all, I should deal with that first,’

"Good evening, I’m a big fan," Greg said, his gray eyes shining with admiration, "Mr. Beast Gambler, You’re the reason why I sit in this casino today so let me do the honors and pay for our drinks,"

Greg stood up.

"Get some drinks over here for our esteemed guest! Do you think it’s everyday we get to receive such a great gambler?"

The words of Greg seemed to set the wheels in motion, A woman dressed in tight-fitting clothes soon came with a tray that had two bottles of alcohol, the local alcohol.

Yokama nodded at Greg and gave him a small smile, The Beastkin seemed delighted by the fact that he was being respected but everything fell under Greg’s plan for victory – the tray was placed on the table and Yokama lifted the first bottle, biting the cork off and taking a swing of the alcohol in one fell swoop.

’His heightened senses might have been a problem,’ Greg thought, ’But the alcohol will lessen those senses, even if he doesn’t become drunk... it doesn’t really matter,’

He lost...

"Again!"

He lost...

"Again!"

He lost...

"AGAIN!"

He lost...

"Don’t you think we should calm down a bit?" Greg suggested, seeing that the Beastkin was fumed after losing so many times – the Commoner did well to hide his greed, after all, these profits far surpassed anything he had ever made in the casino before.

"I want another game," Yokama said, unwilling to listen to the Man’s words, "I bet a gold coin’s worth of chips,"

Greg didn’t know what to say, his words were stuck in his throat – he wasn’t sure if he had met someone as stupid as the Beastkin in front of him.

’But he’s still bringing a haul of cash, with this kind of money, I might even afford to let Rem awaken as a Magus,’ Greg thought, the idea didn’t seem so farfetched now – if Rem became a Magus, The needs of the family would be met and they wouldn’t need to come to the Casino again, ’Just the weekly pay from joining the Town’s Magus force will be able to sustain our family for months, we might even be able to have another kid,’

Gold coins... were rarities, Greg was well aware that even Nobles wouldn’t dare bring out this amount but he was also aware what desperation brought about in a man.

"I don’t think it’s such a good idea," Greg said with a bit of finality, in an attempt to live up to his reputation as a nice guy in the casino though inwardly he prayed that the Cavalier didn’t listen to him. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"No," Yokama quickly said, "If you’re worried about me spending too much money on this then you should know that this doesn’t even faze me,"

They soon started the game again and minutes later, the results were declared... It was a perfect win for Greg.

Yokama’s palms trembled, the lack of logic in this situation was just troublesome – there was only one thing that could possibly explain this.

"He’s cheating!" Yokama cried out, but the other gamblers ignored him, each of them giving a sigh, "Why is no one doing anything?"

If it were the other casinos, they would have apprehended the man and checked him for signs that he was cheating but there was nothing.

"This isn’t our first time hearing this bud," An old man said, sitting alone on a chair next to them, "And each time, Greg has been checked but there hasn’t been a way proved that he’s cheating,"

"What if he awakened magic?" Yokama suddenly pushed a theory forward, his eyes filled with confusion.

"We had a Magus check that too, no luck," The old man replied with a sigh, "Just face it, there will always be someone with more luck than you,"

While the two were talking, Greg made a little sign with his fingers at Rem.

’That’s the signal,’ Rem thought, it was fast but he was able to follow it. Rem approached the table after seeing the signal.
