Chapter 199: The Changing Ruins (Part 3)

Rem materialized in another place within the large ruins, a little bit of surprise was visible on his face and the entrance was nowhere to be found.

"It really changed, huh?" Rem muttered as he looked around, the strange soul energy was still in the air – lurking around, "So is this the unique ability of this place?"

Rem was completely sure that a Monster was the one controlling this dungeon but he didn’t know how or why the monster was doing it.

"Making monsters within it stronger, switching the positions of everyone inside the dungeon... with such power, it should be in the B-rank category," Rem muttered, "But if a B-grade dungeon were to have a dungeon break, the monsters would have already flooded Ember town in an attempt to reach Orion by now,"

It seemed there was something more to it than what met the eye and Rem was willing to explore it through, the monster annoyed him a lot.

"Once I kill it, I can gain it’s skill," Rem said as he heard the growls of monsters next to him, "Of course if I get teleported, Monsters get teleported to me,"

The dust in the ruins around Rem whirled as several Sandwolves, their pristine figures shining in the glowing surroundings... they growled at Rem, in an attempt to threaten the Young Cavalier yet he was anything but afraid.

Rem took out his Shortsword and moved off the ground, turning into a blur within the blink of an eye. Monsters like Sandwolves were made from sand, a powerful spell from a Magus would be enough to destroy them wholly so they didn’t pose a threat to him, he made it to the first Sandwolf and slashed at it’s throat, decapitating it at once.

They were far larger than regular Sandwolves and a certain kind of energy oozed from them, Murderous intent focused on him but Rem shrugged it off as he dealt with the other Sandwolves.

The unnatural movement of the Monsters in the dungeon just solidified his claims that a Monster was the one controlling them, although Rem didn’t know what kind of monster – He was determined to kill it and absorb it’s skill.

’It’s been a while since I absorbed anything good,’ Rem thought while placing his sword in it’s sheath, ’I guess I should continue toward the center of the ruins, It’s plausible that the monster is there,’

He couldn’t pinpoint any soul energy signatures within the ruins as soul energy flooded the air, as if nullifying his senses so he chose to move in a certain direction.

’I just hope I don’t get teleported again,’ Rem thought.

Amelia appeared within a cavern in the ruins, a grimace stretching at her lips as she gritted her teeth.

She brought out a piece of paper from her pouch and her grimace only stretched further.

"I was so focused on the fight, I forgot to give him the Talisman," Amelia muttered, she didn’t know how her Squad would react when they heard that the new person brought to assist them was lost within the Changing Ruins, bound to change positions.

The Changing Talisman was a paper enchanted by a rune which nullified the effects of the Changing Ruins, soul energy gathered around the body before warping it to another part of the Ruins – that was the reason for the special soul energy in the air, once a specific time has passed, the soul energy gathered around the human target and warped he/she to another place within the large expanse of the Ruins. The Changing Talisman helped nullify it. The soul energy in the air of the ruins was so thick, it also prevented any activities of sensing which made it a little harder to find Rem.

Even an experienced Sensory magus found their ability useless in the ruins.

"But there’s something strange," Amelia said, "We didn’t even spend an hour in the Ruins yet and it had already begun changing, could it have felt... threatened?"

She pushed that to the back of her mind and focused on what was more important – Finding Rem, she had been tasked with protecting him and bringing him back to the party that needed his assistance and she wasn’t going to get on the bad side of the Captain.

Amelia set off, an aura of soul energy bursting to life around her as she moved – her speed increased two-fold, her muscles amplified by her soul energy and making her even more faster.

"If I was alone in a place where I didn’t know, where would I go?" Amelia muttered to herself, it was a question that decided her next choice of movement and it only took a few seconds of pondering to arrive at the correct answer – The Center.

The Center would be the place that she or anyone would go, with the hope of finding her or the rest of the party.

"I hope I’m right and Rem didn’t run into trouble on his way there," Amelia said and moved forward.

There were several monsters in his way but Rem made short work of them, decapitating and absorbing their souls – with each soul he absorbed, he felt himself growing a little bit stronger but he was already used to the feeling by now.

"I’m not too far off from the center," Rem muttered, the ruins was certainly wide and he could see why it was formerly a mine – there were a lot of rare resources lying around and although he was interested in them, he wanted to extend his focus on a particular thing, reaching the Center of the ruins and encountering either the Monster in control or the party, "If I was far away, it would have taken me at least a day,"

He couldn’t sense soul energy but his sense of direction was on point and he was completely sure that he would soon arrive at the center – the core of the ruins.

’Also shouldn’t they have some way of nullifying the Teleportation? I don’t want to find myself in another place after making this much progress,’ Rem thought.
