The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 112: Julie’s Resolve
"Ugh"
Julie grunted as she found herself in an unfamiliar area, she had never seen this place before. The room was trivially empty but she could see a desk that had a bowl of apples.
"Where am I?" Julie muttered under her breath, feeling a sharp pain at the back of her neck... she winced a bit but the door opened shortly after and revealed a Man wearing a Healer’s cloak. At a glance, she could see this man’s gaze was wary... almost like he suspected her of something.
She made a slight movement with her arms and he tensed up, reaching for his back pocket like he had a weapon. It took moments for Julie to realize that the man had been robbed like this once before.
’Who was so cruel to rob a man that had just helped them?’ Julie thought – the act was unforgivable.
"You’re in the Adventurer’s GUILD at Orion," The man said to her, "Some Cavaliers found you in the forest and brought you over here for treatment,"
Julie winced, she remembered that she had been in the Forest of death in an urgent quest to search for her Mentor but she had encountered the Masked man and he was much more faster than last time – he had chopped her at the back of her neck which was the cause of the splitting pain she was feeling, if there had been a wound, the Magus would have healed it.
"You’re lucky," The man said, "You were mumbling something about Masked man in your sleep, seems like you hit your head a little bit too hard – The Masked man is a criminal, a wanted criminal with a bounty on his head and he’s certainly too dangerous for a little girl like you to be thinking about it,"
"He killed my mentor, The masked man killed my teacher," Julie muttered audibly while clenching her fist and looking at the man’s eyes, her silver eyes flashing with resolve, "I’ll kill him, no matter what it takes! I’ll kill the Masked man,"
Her resolve was similar to Arya’s, it was illogical but Julie didn’t have any problem with it... It was necessary to put the Masked man to justice. The healer’s palm loosened till it eventually fell but there was still that feeling of insecurity lingering in the air.
"I haven’t actually met the Masked man yet," The Healer said, "But he sounds like a dangerous person from the rumors I’ve heard about him, he has killed Cavaliers and Magus of the like and you’ll need to be strong to have a chance against him,"
"If he killed your mentor then I’m really sorry for your loss," The man said and scratched the back of his head, "I’d have a hard time too if such a terrifying figure harmed someone close to me, but I’m surprised you have so much confidence,"
"Even B-ranked Cavaliers and Magus have no hope against the masked man," The Healer reminded her but Julie merely nodded.
"I’ll become stronger than them," Julie said with resolve, she had already planned on becoming more powerful than any Magus in Orion – this only served to hasten her progress.
"He is capable of soloing dungeons with relative ease," The Healer said in an attempt to push back her resolve but it only broke through the barrier, stronger than ever.
"And so? I’ll be capable of soloing dungeons as well," Julie said, something tingling at the back of her head – her intellect, it was nudging at her to reconsider, there was no logical way to solo dungeons as even someone like the Masked man eventually had to have some secret behind it...but Julie stopped thinking, letting her resolve flow.
’This is probably how Arya felt,’ Julie thoughts drowned out, ’I had questioned her resolve but here I am, Carrying on the hate for the Masked man,’
She hadn’t understood why Arya had hated him at first but now she could grasp it, she was feeling it echoing deep within her – stirring her soul uneasily, he was a threat and had taken something close to her, tears threatened to drop from her eyes but Julie held them in fearfully.
The Healer leaned forward and patted her hair.
"It’ll be fine," He said, "You’ll gain enough power to realize your goals,"
The darkness in the curtain stirred and a shadow emerged from it, painting the ground in the room in black – the curtain had been shut and this gave a certain person the opportunity to spring in.
"Did I hear someone say kill the Masked man?" A tall masked man wearing a suit asked as he appeared in the room, "That man has been reducing the popularity and sales of masks as of late, he needs to be apprehended at once,"
His words spoke volumes of truth in them, Nobody wanted to buy a mask when it would look like they’re affiliated with the Masked man – Julie thought this guy was bold just by showing himself with a Mask on.
"And who are you?" Julie asked, "Someone important?"
"Just a detective," The man said while adjusting his tie, "The name’s Manuel, Orion’s only Shadow magus,"
Julie could see the hints of pride in his voice when he said the last part, He was Orion’s only Shadow Magus?
"Shadow Magus, a magus that controls the shadows?" Julie placed things together in a heartbeat and Manuel nodded while raising his right hand into the air, a tendril of shadow moving upward from the ground as well.
The tendril dissipated shortly after and Manuel squinted, looking at the girl more closely.
"You have the potential for Light magic, huh?" He said, "You’re perfect for the job,"
"What job?" Julie asked, clearly intrigued.
"I need a new Apprentice, my job as a detective is a lot to handle and a stressful one so I wanted an Apprentice with good potential at using Light magic because sincerely I’m pretty powerless out in the light," Manuel said while rubbing his mask nervously, "But I’m powerful nonetheless and I can teach you a bunch of Light magic spells if you join me,"
"You’re the only ’Shadow Magus’ in Orion, how can you have a Light magic spell?" Julie asked, hinting that lies wouldn’t work on her but Manuel reached into his jacket and brought out an item that was assuring enough for her.
"With Magic diaries," Manuel said, extending a book forward at the girl.
It was a good deal, she would be able to grow stronger and learn more powerful spells but it still brought some bad memories to her heart – it was like Arya all over again, Julie steadily gathered her resolve once again.
"I accept," She said, deciding her future within an instant.
