Chapter 108: A Fated Confrontation

Arya didn’t know what to think – she didn’t know what to say, she was in the forest of death alone... her holy flames sizzling around her fists as her eyes made contact with the being she despised the most on this planet... The Masked man.

He stood on a tree, folding his arms and letting his cloak flow in the wind.

"W-why are you here?" She asked, barely able to keep herself in check but Julie’s words were fresh in her mind.

’Try to fight with a clear mind,’

If she focused too much on revenge, the masked man would use her weakness against her... although this Masked man had a different presence from the one she had met a day ago, he was more powerful.

’I just came on a walk here, little did I expect to see the person I want to kill the most,’ Arya thought, seeing Walter’s smile flashing before her eyes once again, a thick intent of murder began to leak into the air...

Rem gave an amused smile from within his smile.

"Are you giving off Murderous intent?" Rem asked with amusement in his voice. Arya moved forward, a controlled blast of Holy flames propelled her into the air and straight toward Rem – Rem watched all of this without moving, she drew closer within seconds and whirled her foot around for a kick but Rem leaned backward, dodging her strike and countering with two bullets made of wind, the projectiles making contact with her back and slamming the Channeler into the ground.

Rem knew he had to be quick, the forest wasn’t a bad area to fight in but it was only a matter of time before the Sensory magus picked this up and of course he wanted her soul – especially since he had a strong feeling he would also get the Holy flames she was throwing around now.

Arya quickly flipped onto her feet and took a step back, Rem had dodged her attack but she didn’t know what hit her from behind and forced her to the ground but she knew that it was powerful and that it had come from him so she put her defenses up...

Yet if simple defenses were enough to stop Rem from reaching his goals, he would have long since been defeated. Rem propelled a bullet made of wind forward and vanished into the air, Arya raised her right fist into the air and punched the bullet – a powerful force of wind echoed around her, disorienting the trees, bushes and everything around her with each passing second.

Arya shrouded her fist with Holy flames and the wind bullet vanished.

Her instincts rung in her head like a shaky bell, she could barely turn around as a fist dug into her side and sent her flying once again... Arya planted her feet into the ground and skidded to a stop, one of her palms held the punched rib – it had been broken upon impact.

The sizzling sound of holy flame filled the air and Rem looked at the wound Arya had incurred, now it was wrapped by the burning white flames.

’What is she doing?’ Rem thought while pulling up his guard, Arya cocked her arms back and let them flow with holy flames before shooting them forward as powerful flamethrowers – the flames produced brought about a searing heat which made even Rem flinch a bit before leaping to the side, out of the way of the Flamethrower but Arya changed the positioning of her palm, pointing it at him.

The flamethrowers followed, threatening to catch up to Rem who was running along the trees, everything the white flames touched were instantly decimated... the trees were riddled with white flames, burning beyond recognition. After circling around her for a bit, Rem leapt to her side from her blind spot, giving her a powerful kick to the head.

His kick didn’t connect as Arya had cut off all magical energy she had imbued within the spell and concentrated her might on moving her head backward to dodge Rem’s strike, right before his heel connected with her face, she managed to avoid it narrowly and forcefully thrust her lower body into the air in an attempt to kick him from behind.

’I didn’t know magus resorted to physical attacks,’ Rem thought while raising his hands to the side, creating two wind bullets and forcefully pushing himself out of the way – Arya’s kick missed and her body made a somersault before crashing into a nearby tree.

Rem landed on the tree’s trunk with his feet and pushed off it, maintaining his momentum and closing the distance between himself and Arya... the Channeler brought forth balls of holy flame, each of them shot toward Rem with Arya’s murderous intent evident.

’Anything that comes in contact with a Holy flame must burn,’ Rem thought, ’Physical, Liquid or even gas – the only thing that can counter a Holy flame is another spell of the same intensity,’

Rem’s fists were immediately clad with crimson flames, each of them burning with a terrifying intensity. He brought his right fist forward and a ball of cascading crimson flames shot out of it, slamming into a ball of holy flame creating a kaleidoscope of white and crimson... the blinding light was enough to temporarily blind Arya but not Rem, he moved to the right and avoided two glowering orbs of holy flame. His left fist echoed with his resolve as he shot forward a powerful orb of burning crimson flame toward Arya’s head.

Arya noticed the attack and created a wall of holy flame, snuffing out the other attack but it was exactly as Rem had expected, he immediately began moving to the wall, his soul sickle flashing in deep echoes of green... as he reached the wall, he cut through it in a single slash and broke through Arya’s defenses.

At the same time, both balls of crimson and white exploded, shaking the trees and the ground but Arya couldn’t stop it – Rem had already broken through, his soul sickle’s brightness burning through the destroyed wall of white.

A teardrop streaked down her cheek, falling down from her face and splashing against the ground.

’Walter... I’m sorry I failed...’

The blade got closer and closer, the memories of her and Walter’s time together flashing before her very eyes... and then something snapped, her eyes which had lost their brightness became filled with rage and fury.

’I promised myself I would do whatever it takes,’

The blade came closer...

’Whatever it takes to kill him,’

Closer...

’No matter the cost, for Walter’s sake...’

It was near her neck...

’Because he stole WALTER’S SOUL!’

The last sentence shook the very core of her soul, bringing out the power that lay deep within – in a last ditch sacrifice.
